Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is difficult to diagnose because of the lack of parenchymal opacities, often revealing minimal or absent pleural thickening. Furthermore, pleural effusion has diverse differential diagnoses, including malignancies, infections, as well as collagen vascular and other benign diseases. In general practice, lung cancer (LC) is the most common malignancy causing pleural effusion; therefore, a simple method using pleural diagnostic markers to differentiate between LC and mesothelioma is crucial. We retrospectively reviewed the data of 530 adult patients diagnosed with pleural effusion between January 2010 and December 2020 in an outpatient or inpatient setting. Patients with pathologically diagnosed MM or LC with cytologically positive (class IV or V) pleural effusion were analyzed, and the characteristics of these 2 diseases were compared.During the study period, 27 patients diagnosed with MM and 100 patients diagnosed with LC were enrolled. Receiver operating characteristic curve analylt;6.0 ng/mL and HA >30,000 ng/mL can confirm MM with high specificity, prior to cytological or pathological examinations.

In the pubertal period, bone age advances rapidly in conjunction with growth spurts. Precise bone-age assessments in this period are important, but results from the hand and elbow can be different. We aimed to compare the bone age between the hand and elbow around puberty onset and to elucidate the chronological age confirming puberty onset according to elbow-based bone age.A total of 211 peripubertal subjects (127 boys and 84 girls) who underwent hand and elbow radiographs within 2 months was enrolled. Two radiologists and a pediatric orthopedic surgeon assessed bone age. Hand bone age was graded using the Greulich-Pyle (GP) method, and elbow bone age was determined using the Sauvegrain method. The correlation of 2 methods was evaluated by Demining regression analysis, and the mean absolute difference (MAD) with chronological age was compared between pre-pubertal and pubertal subjects. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine the chronological age confirming puberty onsetnd 0.53 ± 0.36 years with the same 2 methods (P = .033). The chronological age for confirming puberty onset using the elbow was 12.2 years in boys and 10.3 years in girls. The bone ages of hand and elbow were different at puberty, and the elbow was a more reliable location for bone-age assessment at puberty. Puberty onset according to elbow occurred slightly earlier than expected.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is caused by the activation of an abnormal immune response in the intestinal mucosa; the spleen is involved in the main immune response. Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn disease (CD) have different inflammatory mechanisms; this study aimed to quantitatively measure and compare the spleen volumes between patients with UC and CD and examine the relationship between spleen volume and disease activity in both.We retrospectively analyzed 44 patients with IBD aged 30-60 years (UC group, n = 24; CD group, n = 20). The control group comprised 19 patients with pancreatic cysts that did not affect the spleen volume. All patients underwent computed tomography (CT) between April 2014 and March 2019. Using the Image J software, spleen volumes in the UC, CD, and control groups were measured accurately from the CT images and adjusted for the body weight. No significant differences in the sex, age, or body weight were noted between the UC and CD groups and the control group. The spleen volud between the disease activity and the body weight-adjusted spleen volume in patients with CD (P  less then  .01).The spleen volume, adjusted for the body weight, was significantly larger in patients with CD than in the controls and was also strongly correlated with the CD activity. These results suggest that the immune response in CD may affect the spleen volume.
To investigate the association between statin use and biochemical recurrence (BCR) in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) or radiotherapy (RT) as a curative treatment, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed.

We conducted a literature search of online databases for studies assessing BCR associated with statin use in patients with prostate cancer undergoing RP or RT. We performed a pooled analysis of BCR-free survival with subgroup analysis of treatment, cancer risk, and medication.

We identified 27 studies and found that statin use was associated with a potential tendency to improve BCR-free survival in patients undergoing curative treatment (P = .05). In addition, we revealed that statin use after curative treatment did not improve BCR-free survival (P = .33), whereas statin use could improve BCR-free survival in high-risk patients (P < .01).

Statin use is associated with a potential tendency to improve BCR-free survival in prostate cancer and could reduce BCR in high-risk patients.

Although the distribution of arterial involvement is still the subject of controversy for defining the diagnostic criteria for thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO), several reports have described TAO involving the more proximal arterial segment. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of large artery TAO in comparison with those of small artery TAO.Between January 2007 and July 2019, 83 consecutive symptomatic patients with a diagnosis of lower extremity TAO were stratified according to the most proximal arterial involvement, with the cutoff level of the adductor canal as a reference (large artery TAO versus small artery TAO), and analyzed retrospectively. The study outcomes included any amputations and major amputations. The large artery TAO group consisted of 30 patients (36.1%), and the small artery TAO group consisted of 53 patients (63.9%). In terms of clinical symptoms and signs, the proportion of major tissue loss (Rutherford class 6) was significantly higher among patienrange, 0-376 months) (43.3% versus 28.3%, P = .16). However, the major amputation rate was significantly higher among patients with large artery TAO (13.3% versus 0%, P = .02). On Kaplan-Meier survival analysis of the cumulative event-free rates, although there was a similar 10-year amputation-free survival rate (P = .24) between the 2 groups, the large artery TAO group had a significantly lower 10-year major amputation-free survival rate (P  less then  .01) than the small artery TAO group.Large artery TAO is a limb-threatening condition and had a worse prognosis than small artery TAO.
Reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is an effective surgical method for the treatment of lateral patellar instability. At present, there is not much controversies regarding the femoral attachment, however, the controversies regarding patellar attachment versus attachment, number of graft strands, tension, isometry and so on. The following electronic databases will be searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Medline. We will consider articles published between database initiation and March 2021. MPFL in the subject heading will be included in the study. Language is limited to English. Research selection, data extraction, and research quality assessment were independently completed by 2 researchers.

MPFL reconstruction is a reliable technique for the treatment of patellofemoral instability. The Schöttle point is still the mainstream method for locating the femoral attachment, the patellar attachment for single-bundle is located at the junction of the proximal one third and the distal two third of the longitudinal axis of the patella. For double-bundles, one is located in the proximal one third of the medial patellar edge and another is in the center of the patellar edge. Meanwhile, the adjustment of graft tension during operation is very important.

Studies have shown that a new demographic and epidemiological profile has been emerging in women of childbearing age, mainly due to the increase in life expectancy, reduction in infant mortality, higher survival in old age, and the drop in fertility rate.To evaluate the external (violence) causes of mortality among women in Brazil from 2007 to 2016.This is a quantitative, ecological study of temporal trends and correlations of the main causes of mortality of women of childbearing age and their association with age, from 2007 to 2016 in Brazil. The collected data were extracted from the Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde database called the Mortality Information System. It was possible to identify a considerable increase among the Brazilian states, with the highest coefficient of mortality from external causes, especially the northern regions. The highest coefficient identified among the evaluated states was 3.57 per 10,000, and in the northeast and southeast, external causes mainly affectehe highest coefficient identified among the evaluated states was 3.57 per 10,000, and in the northeast and southeast, external causes mainly affected young women aged 10 to 29 years.It is necessary for managers and health professionals to be more aware of the diseases that affect this population.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-related comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease (CVD), osteoporosis (OP), and interstitial lung disease (ILD), are sub-optimally managed. RA-related comorbidities affect disease control and lead to impairment in quality of life. We aimed to develop consensus recommendations for managing RA-related comorbidities.

The consensus statements were formulated based on emerging evidence during a face-to-face meeting of Taiwan rheumatology experts and modified through three-round Delphi exercises. The quality of evidence and strength of recommendation of each statement were graded after a literature review, followed by voting for agreement. Through a review of English-language literature, we focused on the existing evidence of management of RA-related comorbidities.

Based on experts' consensus, eleven recommendations were developed. CVD risk should be assessed in patients at RA diagnosis, once every 5 years, and at changes in DMARDs therapy. Considering the detrimental effects ovide useful recommendations for rheumatologists on managing RA-related comorbidities.
To screen the prognosis-related autophagy genes of female lung adenocarcinoma by the transcriptome data and clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. In this study, screen meaningful female lung adenocarcinoma differential genes in TCGA, use univariate Cox proportional regression model to select genes related to prognosis, and establish the best risk model. In this study, Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes were applied for carrying out bioinformatics analysis of gene function. The gene expression and clinical data of 264 female lung adenocarcinoma patient samples were downloaded from TCGA.
