Following a surge in cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in June 2020, India became the third-worst affected country worldwide. This study aims to analyse the underlying epidemiological situation in India and explain possible impacts of policy and technological changes.

Secondary data were utilized, including recently published literature from government sources, the COVID-19 India website and local media reports. These data were analysed, with a focus on the impact of policy and technological interventions.

The spread of COVID-19 in India was initially characterized by fewer cases and lower case fatality rates compared with numbers in many developed countries, primarily due to a stringent lockdown and a demographic dividend. However, economic constraints forced a staggered lockdown exit strategy, resulting in a spike in COVID-19 cases. This factor, coupled with low spending on health as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP), created mayhem because of inadequate numbers of hospital beds on health as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) meant there was a shortage of hospital beds and ventilators and a lack of medical personnel, especially in the public health sector. Nevertheless, technological advances, supported by a strong research base, helped contain the health and economic damage resulting from the pandemic. In the future, measures such as asymptomatic testing, public-private partnerships, and technological advances will be essential until a vaccine against COVID-19 can be developed and rolled-out in India.
to assess the changes in prevalence, incidence and hospitalisation rates during the first four months of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, in Friuli Venezia Giulia Mental Health Departments (MHDs); to analyse the features of MHDs patients tested for Sars-Cov-2, and to monitor whether MHDs applied and adhered to regional recommendations.

Observational study using MHDs' administrative data and individual data on suspected and positive cases of Sars-Cov-2. Adherence to recommentations was assessed using 21 indicators. Changes in rates were calculated by Poisson regression analysis, while the Fisher exact test was used for assessing differences between suspected and positive cases.

The decrease in voluntary admission rates on 100,000 inhabitants in hospital services was significantly larger from January to April 2020, compared to the same period of 2019 (
<0.001), while no other data showed a significant decrease. Among the 82 cases tested for Sars-Cov-2, five were positive, and they significanmited period of observation.Tocilizumab is widely being used to treat COVID-19. Although reducing systemic inflammation, it also increases the risk for secondary infections as a result of the immunosuppression produced. We report the case of a 69-year-old patient admitted to the ICU with severe respiratory distress caused by COVID-19 pneumonia who developed pulmonary aspergillosis. On the basis of these findings, we suggest early testing for pulmonary aspergillosis in COVID-19 patients treated with tocilizumab.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that leads to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has put public health at risk in 2020. The spike protein (SP) in SARS-CoV-2 is primarily responsible for the attachment and entry of the virus into the cell, which binds to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). Owing to the lack of an effective therapy, drug repositioning is an opportunity to search for molecules with pharmacological potential for the treatment of COVID-19. In this study, three candidates with the potential to destabilize the SP-ACE2 complex are reported. selleck chemical Through molecular docking, 147 drugs were evaluated and their possible binding sites in the interface region of the SP-ACE2 complex and the SP of SARS-CoV-2 were identified. The five best candidate molecules were selected for molecular dynamics studies to observe changes in interactions between SP-ACE2 and ligands with the SP-ACE2 complex. Using umbrella sampling molecular dynamics simulations, the binding energy of SP with ACE2 (-29.58 kcal/mol) without ligands, and in complex with amprenavir (-20.13 kcal/mol), enalaprilat (-23.84 kcal/mol), and plerixafor (-19.72 kcal/mol) were calculated. These drugs are potential candidates for the treatment of COVID-19 as they destabilize the SP-ACE2 complex; the binding energy of SP is decreased in the presence of these drugs and may prevent the virus from entering the cell. Plerixafor is the drug with the greatest potential to destabilize the SP-ACE2 complex, followed by amprenavir and enalaprilat; thus, these three drugs are proposed for future in vitro and in vivo evaluations.3CL protease is one of the key proteins expressed by SARS-Coronavirus-2 cell, the potential to be targeted in the discovery of antivirus during this COVID-19 pandemic. This protein regulates the proteolysis of viral polypeptide essential in forming RNA virus. 3CL protease (3CLpro) was commonly targeted in the previous SARS-Coronavirus including bat and MERS, hence, by blocking this protein activity, the coronavirus should be eradicated. This study aims to review the potency of biflavonoid as the SARS-Coronavirus-2 3CLpro inhibitor. The review was initiated by describing the chemical structure of biflavonoid and followed by listing its natural source. Instead, the synthetic pathway of biflavonoid was also elaborated. The 3CLpro structure and its function were also illustrated followed by the list of its 3D-crystal structure available in a protein data bank. Lastly, the pharmacophores of biflavonoid have been identified as a protease inhibitor, was also discussed. This review hopefully will help researchers to obtain packed information about biflavonoid which could lead to the study in designing and discovering a novel SARS-Coronavirus-2 drug by targetting the 3CLpro enzyme. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of the Covid-19 lockdown and the alcohol restriction on the number of cases that presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with the same time period two years prior. The method used was a retrospective review of medical records, directly comparing the types and numbers of trauma cases as well as non-trauma cases that presented to the ED in March and April 2020 with the same period two years prior. Our results showed a reduction during both months of lockdown compared to the same time period in 2018 with trauma cases in March 2020 down 33.14% and April 2020 down 57.93%. The non-trauma ED cases were down 2.52% in March and 37.43% in April compared to two years prior. When comparing only the last 6 days of March, a significant percentage decrease is visible as trauma cases fell from 20.79% in 2018 to just 8.58% of the total cases in 2020. In conclusion, our data showed a significant reduction in almost all types of ED cases during the lockdown period, but most significantly in trauma-related cases which was likely due, inter alia, to the prohibition of alcohol sales, gatherings and unnecessary travel.
