Albums

Before the formation of Toto the band, members performed sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 following the collaboration.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics for not having hit singles. In 1985 the lead singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group, and the band held auditions for the new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering demos and tapes from the past to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

In the course of the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun the drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.
