Aims The purpose of this study was to validate a scale that counselors could use to assess chat visitors' capacity to regulate suicidal thoughts. Method The validity and reliability of the Regulation of Suicidal Thoughts Scale (RSTS) was evaluated using two different samples (n = 1,162, n = 241). Results All items correlated with the theoretical construct regulation of suicidal thoughts, and the structural model showed the RSTS predicted perceived certainty to attempt suicide. Construct and criterion validity were inferred from a decrease in visitors' ability to control their thoughts of suicide from pre-chat to post-chat (Cohen's d = 91). Greater regulation in thoughts was also related to less certainty to attempt suicide. Limitations Additional evidence is needed to validate the RSTS, especially among diverse populations. Collectively, the combination therapy remarkably inhibits the tumor growth in multiple murine models and prolongs the survival of mice. The results demonstrate the clinical potential of halofuginone in combination with oncolytic virus.The mere exposure effect (MEE) is defined as repeated exposures to a stimulus enhancing affective evaluations of that stimulus (Zajonc, 1968). The three prominent explanations of the MEE are Zajonc's "neophobia" account, the uncertainty reduction account, and the perceptual fluency approach. Zajonc's "neophobia" account posits that people have an inherent low level of fear of novel objects and exposure to the objects partially extinguishes this novelty-based fear. The uncertainty reduction account asserts that people find uncertainty aversive and habituation reduces uncertainty. The fluency account postulates that people "like" representations of things with which they are fluent. In four experiments, we induced positive and negative moods before or after target exposures. In addition to assessing the MEE in each condition, we assessed the mood induction. The central hypothesis assessed in this series was that there would be an interaction between mood and the MEE. Although the three accounts of the MEE generated divergent predictions, none of the accounts were well supported by the data. Tests for mood induction demonstrated the efficacy of the induction procedures and the MEE was consistently observed, but Bayesian analysis indicated that at least in the present preparation mood had no effect on the MEE.This paper examines how dogs can modulate the effects of emotion on time perception. To this end, participants performed a temporal bisection task with stimulus durations presented in the form of neutral or emotional facial expressions (angry, sad, and happy faces). In the first experiment, dog owners were compared with nondog owners, while in the second experiment, students were randomly assigned to one of the three waiting groups (waiting alone, with another person, or with a dog) before being confronted with the temporal bisection task. An uncontrolled phase 1/2 clinical trial was performed in 4 patients aged 20, 26, 30 and 53 months. Treatment consisted in 16 intra-cerebral and cerebellar deposits of a recombinant adeno-associated viral vector encoding human -N-acetylglucosaminidase (rAAV2/5-hNAGLU) plus immunosuppression. An intermediate report at 30 months was previously published. Thirthy treatment emergent adverse events were reported between 30 and 66 months after surgery, including 3 classified as severe with no serious drug reactions. At 5.5 years, NAGLU activity was persistently detected in lumbar CSF (18% of unaffected control level). Circulating T cells reacting against NAGLU peptides were present, indicating a lack of acquired tolerance. Patient 2, 3 and 4 showed progressive brain atrophy and a neurocognitive evolution that did not differ from untreated SanfilippoA/B children. Patient 1 enrolled at 20 months of age had a milder disease with normal brain imaging and a significantly better cognitive outcome than the three other patients and untreated patients, although not equivalent to normal children. After 5.5 years, the primary endpoint of this study was achieved with a good safety profile of the proposed treatment. Absence seizures are the prototypic primarily generalized seizure but there is incomplete understanding regarding their generation and maintenance. A core network for absence seizures has been defined including focal cortical and thalamic regions that have frequency dependent interactions. The purpose of this study was to investigate within-frequency and cross-frequency coupling during human absence seizures, to identify key regions (hubs) within the absence network that contribute to propagation and maintenance.
Thirteen children with new onset and untreated childhood absence epilepsy had over 60 typical absence seizures during both EEG-fMRI and MEG recordings. The spatial map of the ictal network was defined using fMRI and used as prior information for MEG connectivity. A multilayer network approach was used to investigate within-frequency and cross-frequency coupling for canonical frequency bands. The new COVID-19 variant was reported by the authorities of the UK to the World Health Organization (WHO) on 14 December 2020. We aim to describe the clinical characteristics and nosocomial infection rates in major trauma and orthopaedic patients comparing the first and second wave of COVID-19 infection.
A retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected trauma database was reviewed at a level 1 major trauma centre from 1 December 2020 to 18 February 2021 looking at demographics, clinical characteristics, and nosocomial infections and compared to our previously published first wave data (26 January 2020 to 14 April 2020).
From 1 December 2020 to 18 February 2021, 522 major trauma patients were identified with a mean age of 54.6 years, and 53.4% (n = 279) were male. Common admissions were falls (318; 60.9%) and road traffic accidents (RTAs; 71 (13.6%); 262 of these patients (50.2%) had surgery.
