7%), INH (24.0%), ETB (23.4%), and PZA (23.9%) in that order. 48.5% of cases were reported in the older patients (≥ 60 years). According to organ system, gastro-intestinal system disorder was most common (32.0%), followed by skin and appendage (25.9%), liver and biliary system (14.2%). Nausea was the most common ADR (14.6%), followed by hepatic enzyme elevation (14.2%), rash (11.7%), pruritus (9.1%), vomiting (8.9%), and urticaria (4.2%). Most ADRs appeared within 1 month, but ADRs such as neuropathy, paresthesia, hematologic abnormalities, renal function abnormalities and liver enzyme abnormality were also often reported after 2 months.

Our data are clinically informative for recognizing and coping with ADRs of anti-TB drugs.

This meta-analysis was performed to examine the association between maternal hypertension during pregnancy (HDP) and neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).

We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and the KoreaMed database for relevant studies. We used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for quality assessment of all included studies. The meta-analysis was performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software (version 3.3).

We included 35 studies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria; the total number of infants evaluated came to 97,399 through review process. Maternal HDP was not significantly associated with any definition of BPD, i.e., oxygen dependency at 36 weeks of gestation (odds ratio [OR], 1.162; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.991-1.362;
= 0.064) in pooled analysis of 29 studies or oxygen dependency at 28 days of age (OR, 1.084; 95% CI, 0.660-1.780;
= 0.751) in pooled analysis of 8 studies. Maternal HDP was significantly associated only with severe BPD (OR, 2.341; 95% CI, 1.726-3.174;
< 0.001). BPD was not associated with HDP in the overall analysis (OR, 1.131; 95% CI, 0.977-1.309;
= 0.100) or subgroup analysis according to the definition of HDP.

Maternal HDP was not associated with neonatal BPD defined by the duration of oxygen dependency (at either 36 weeks of gestation or 28 days of life) but was associated with severe BPD.

The relationship between changes in anxiety levels and personal protective equipment (PPE) use is yet to be evaluated. The present study assessed this relationship among healthcare workers (HCWs) involved in the care of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

An online survey was conducted in a municipal hospital with 195 nationally designated negative pressure isolation units in Korea. Anxiety level was measured using the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and changes in anxiety levels were assessed based on the time when COVID-19 vaccine was introduced in March 2021 in Korea. Monthly PPE usage between June 2020 and May 2021 was investigated.

The mean SAS score (33.25 ± 5.97) was within normal range and was lower than those reported in previous studies conducted before COVID-19 vaccination became available. Among the 93 HCWs who participated, 64 (68.8%) answered that their fear of contracting COVID-19 decreased after vaccination. The number of coveralls used per patient decreased from 33.6 to 0. However, a demand for more PPE than necessary was observed in situations where HCWs were exposed to body fluids and secretions (n = 38, 40.9%). Excessive demand for PPE was not related to age, working experience, or SAS score.

Anxiety in HCWs exposed to COVID-19 was lower than it was during the early period of the pandemic, and the period before vaccination was introduced. The number of coveralls used per patient also decreased although an excessive demand for PPE was observed.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disclosure provides personal support to people living with HIV/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (PLWH). In addition, it has important implications for disease prevention and treatment. Research on disclosure has been conducted worldwide; however, data from South Korea are insufficient. The purpose of this study was to examine whether certain demographic, medical, and psychosocial factors act as predictors of HIV serostatus non-disclosure among PLWH in South Korea.

Participants consisted of 147 PLWH who visited the outpatient infection clinic between June 2020 and January 2021. Demographics, medical factors, HIV-related stigma, and depressive and anxiety symptoms were measured.

The overall disclosure rate among participants was 61.2%. Logistic regression analysis showed that lower depression (odds ratio [OR], 0.918;
= 0.021) and higher disclosure concerns (OR, 1.133;
= 0.004) were significant predictors of non-disclosure. Further, married state was a major prediresults. The social atmosphere linking sexual promiscuity and disease may also have influenced these results. Nationwide efforts should continue to reduce the overall stigma and create a social environment where PLWH can feel safe to disclose their disease conditions.Tofacitinib is an oral, small-molecule Janus kinase inhibitor approved in South Korea for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC) on May 1, 2019. However, safety data are lacking. We investigated the incidence of serious adverse events (SAEs) in patients with UC using tofacitinib from the National Health Insurance Service database. In all, 1,026 UC patients were enrolled in this study. The overall incidences (100 person-years; 95% confidence interval) of SAEs were 4.06 (1.63-8.36) and 6.30 (4.59-8.43) in the tofacitinib and anti-TNFi groups, respectively. No thromboembolic event occurred and major cardiovascular events occurred in only three patients (two unstable angina and one congestive heart failure) in the tofacitinib group. The incidence of herpes zoster and tuberculosis did not differ between the two groups. There was no difference in the overall incidence of SAEs, including thromboembolic events, between tofacitinib- and TNFi-treated UC patients.
The quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) score is suggested to use for screening patients with a high risk of clinical deterioration in the general wards, which could simply be regarded as a general early warning score. However, comparison of unselected admissions to highlight the benefits of introducing qSOFA in hospitals already using Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) remains unclear. We sought to compare qSOFA with MEWS for predicting clinical deterioration in general ward patients regardless of suspected infection.

The predictive performance of qSOFA and MEWS for in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) or unexpected intensive care unit (ICU) transfer was compared with the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) analysis using the databases of vital signs collected from consecutive hospitalized adult patients over 12 months in five participating hospitals in Korea.

Of 173,057 hospitalized patients included for analysis, 668 (0.39%) experienced the composite outcome. The Our study suggests that qSOFA should not replace MEWS for identifying patients in the general wards at risk of poor outcome.The development of research questions and the subsequent hypotheses are prerequisites to defining the main research purpose and specific objectives of a study. Consequently, these objectives determine the study design and research outcome. The development of research questions is a process based on knowledge of current trends, cutting-edge studies, and technological advances in the research field. Excellent research questions are focused and require a comprehensive literature search and in-depth understanding of the problem being investigated. Initially, research questions may be written as descriptive questions which could be developed into inferential questions. These questions must be specific and concise to provide a clear foundation for developing hypotheses. Hypotheses are more formal predictions about the research outcomes. These specify the possible results that may or may not be expected regarding the relationship between groups. Thus, research questions and hypotheses clarify the main purpose and specific objectives of the study, which in turn dictate the design of the study, its direction, and outcome. Studies developed from good research questions and hypotheses will have trustworthy outcomes with wide-ranging social and health implications.Lack of adequate effector T cells infiltrated in tumor is one of the main problems in the failure of immune checkpoint blockade therapy (ICBT). Photodynamic therapy (PDT) induced acute inflammation can sensitize tumors and activate T cells, thus assisting immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) against tumor growth and metastasis. T cells maturation and activation lag 3 to 7 days behind PDT. However, such timing in the combination therapy of ICI and PDT is commonly ignored in designing numerous multi-functional integrated nanomedicines. Herein, the authors illustrate that intervention timing of ICI after PDT affects the anti-tumor efficacy. A tumor-targeting nanomedicine is prepared by encapsulating indocyanine green into CD44 specifically binding material, a hyaluronic acid conjugated lipid poly(ethylene glycol). The PDT nanomedicine is designed to induce a robust immune response in tumor. The optimal group (Combo-STAR), ICI gave 5 days after PDT, significantly suppresses local tumor growth and eliminates metastasis. What should be highlighted is the time point of administration because if ICI is given too early, T cells are immature, otherwise, T cells are exhausted if ICI is given too late. This work presents theoretical guidance for raising awareness of intervention timing when augmenting ICBT with immune response inducers in clinic.Wheat stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), is responsible for significant yield losses worldwide, which can be minimized by the deployment of Pst resistance genes. Yr78 is an adult plant partial-resistance gene that has remained effective against the post-2000 virulent Pst races. In this study, we generated a high-resolution map of Yr78 based on 6,124 segregating chromosomes. We mapped Yr78 within a 0.05-cM interval on the short arm of chromosome 6B, which corresponds to an 11.16 Mb region between TraesCS6B02G116200 and TraesCS6B02G118000 in the 'Chinese Spring' Ref Seq. check details v1.1 genome. This interval is likely larger because it includes the unassembled NOR-B2 region, which may have contributed to the low recombination rate detected in this region. The Yr78 candidate region includes 15 genes that were prioritized for future functional studies based on their annotated function and polymorphisms between susceptible and resistant genotypes. Using exome capture data, we identified five major haplotypes in the candidate gene region, with the H1 haplotype associated with Yr78. The H1 haplotype was not detected in tetraploid wheat (Triticum turgidum L.) but was found in ∼30% of the common wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.), suggesting that the associated resistance to stripe rust may have favored the selection of this haplotype. We developed two diagnostic molecular markers for the H1 haplotype that will facilitate the deployment of Yr78 in wheat breeding programs.
