Financial relationships between industry and physicians are a key aspect for the advancement of surgical practice and training, but these relationships also result in a conflict of interest with respect to research. Financial payments to physicians are public within the United States in the Open Payments Database, but the rate of accurate financial disclosure of payments has not previously been studied in trauma surgery publications.

To determine the rate of accurate financial disclosure in major surgical trauma journals compared with the Open Payments Database.

The names of all authors publishing in The Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Injury, and The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery between 2015 and 2018 were obtained from MEDLINE. Non-physicians, physicians outside of the United States, physicians without payments in the Open Payments Database, and physicians with payments types of only "Food and Drink" were excluded. Financial disclosure statements were obtained from the journal websites and mey for advancing surgical practice and providing training to physicians. These relationships are not inherently unethical, but there is consistently high inaccuracy of financial disclosure across multiple trauma surgery journals which may indicate the need for further education on financial disclosures during surgical training or active obtainment of publicly available financial disclosures by journals.

To determine the relative number of acute musculoskeletal injuries sustained by children due to different sports in a region of the UK, and assess the burden upon the NHS, through a cross sectional study.

Collection of data for every child aged 6-18 seen at the Peterborough City Hospital fracture clinic, whose sports injury was from 1
September 2018 - 31
August 2019 (1 school year; n=689). Data was gathered throughout the year by three children's orthopaedic surgeons, who consulted the clinic records, notes and x-rays of all children who had attended clinic.

Boys were 2.7 times more likely to sustain injury than girls. Children aged 6-9 had few injuries (mean 24 injuries each year group), 10-15 had a large number of injuries (mean 84), and 16-18 again had few injuries (mean 35). Football and rugby were responsible for the majority of injuries (61% between them), as well as the majority of physiotherapy appointments (72%). Sports with the highest likelihood that an injury will be sufficiently serious to require surgery were equestrian (42% of injuries required surgery), gymnastics (27%), ice skating (25%) and rugby (22%). Popular sports in which injuries were relatively rare include swimming, athletics, cricket, hockey, tennis and badminton.

The sports that caused the most injuries were football and rugby. Considering relative participation in different sports, it is clear that rugby has a disproportionate number of musculoskeletal injuries in total, of severe injuries requiring surgery, and requiring rehab from physiotherapy.

Influenza is increasingly recognized as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with hematologic malignancies and recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, the impact of influenza on this population has not been previously evaluated in a systematic review. This study systematically reviewed and summarized the outcomes of influenza infection as to in-hospital influenza-related mortality, development of lower respiratory tract infection and acute respiratory distress syndrome, need for hospitalization, intensive care unit admission, and mechanical ventilation.

We conducted a systematic search of literature using the PubMed and EMBASE databases for articles published from January 1989 through January 19, 2020, reporting laboratory-confirmed influenza in patients of any age with hematologic malignancies and HSCT. Time from transplantation was not included in the search criteria. The impact of antiviral therapy on influenza outcomes was not assessed due to heterogenerecipients with influenza are at risk for severe outcomes including lower respiratory tract infection and in-hospital mortality. We aimed to elucidate the influence on analgesic effect of genetic polymorphisms in enzymes responsible for biotransformation of tramadol and ibuprofen or other possible genes involved in their mechanism of action.

The study population comprised 118 patients from a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase III clinical trial that assessed the analgesic efficacy and tolerability of a single dose of ibuprofen (arginine)/tramadol 400/37.5 mg compared with ibuprofen arginine 400 mg alone, tramadol 50 mg alone, and placebo in patients with moderate to severe pain after dental surgery. We analyzed 32 polymorphisms in the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes COMT, ABCB1, SLC22A1, OPRM1, and SLC22A1.

We did not find any statistically significant difference among CYP2C9 phenotypes related to ibuprofen response, although CYP2C9 poor metabolizers had a longer effect (higher pain relief at 6 hours). Likewise, we did not find any statistically significant difference among PTGS2 genotypes, contradictie in individuals carrying ABCB1 mutated alleles, which might correlate with higher tramadol plasma levels. Finally, we found a statistically significant better response in patients carrying the OPRM1 A118G G allele, which contradicts the previous reports. Measuring the active metabolite O-desmethyl-tramadol formation would be of great importance to better evaluate this association because O-desmethyl-tramadol has a higher μ-opioid receptor affinity compared with the parent drug. Older women have a worse prognosis with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and comorbidities likely contribute to poor outcomes. We sought to identify comorbid conditions and treatment-related factors in older women.

A retrospective chart review identified 351 patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery (CRS). 100/351 (28.5%) were ≥ 70 years old. Demographic and clinicopathologic information was collected. Crude progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) estimates were calculated using Kaplan-Meier method. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate hazard ratios and adjustments for confounders.

Study subjects ≥70 years old had significantly higher Cumulative Illness Rating Scale-Geriatric (CIRS-G) score (5.9 vs 4.3; p = 0.0001), less completion of adjuvant chemotherapy (24% vs 15.1%; p = 0.049), less intraperitoneal (IP) therapy (18.2% vs 35.5%; p = 0.002), less clinical trial participation (16% vs 26.3%; p = 0.040), decreased platinum sensitivity (60% vs 73.7%; p = 0.01. Our results show comorbid conditions in older patients with advanced EOC may have less impact than tumor biology.
Deficient expression of mismatch repair proteins (MMR) has been suggested to be a predictor of resistance of atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) and early endometrial carcinoma (EEC) to conservative treatment.

To assess the predictive value of MMR immunohistochemistry in patients conservatively treated for AEH and EEC, and to calculate its predictive accuracy.

All patients with AEH or EEC conservatively treated with hysteroscopic resection plus progestins in two referral centers from January 2004 to July 2019 were retrospectively assessed. Immunohistochemistry for MMR was ad hoc performed. Selleck Cyclopamine Study outcomes were (i) the association of a deficient immunohistochemical expression of MMR with resistance and recurrence of AEH and EEC after conservative treatment, and (ii) the accuracy of MMR immunohistochemistry in predicting the outcome of conservative treatment. Relative risk (RR) for the associations, and sensitivity, specificity and area under the curve (AUC) on receiver operating characteristic curve fodictor of recurrence of AEH/EEC after initial regression.
To describe strategy and results of fertility preservation (FP) in patients with malignant and borderline ovarian tumors.

Consecutive cohort study of 43 women with malignant or borderline ovarian tumors who underwent FP between February 2013 and July 2019. The study was conducted in national expert center in Tenon University Hospital, Sorbonne University French ESGO-certified ovarian cancer center and pregnancy-associated cancer network (CALG). Main outcome measure was FP technique proposed by multidisciplinary committee, FP technique used, time after surgery, number of fragments, histology and follicle density (if ovarian tissue freezing), number of expected, retrieved and frozen oocytes (if ovarian stimulation).

Pathological diagnosis was malignant epithelial ovarian tumor in five women (11.6%), rare malignant ovarian tumor in 14 (32.6%), borderline in 24 (55.8%), and mostly unilateral (79.1%) and stage I (76.7%). Mean age at diagnosis was 26.8 ± 6.9 years and mean tumor size 109.7 ± 61 mm. Before FP, mean AFC was 11.0 ± 6.1 and AMH levels were 2.7 ± 4.6 ng/mL. Six ovarian tissue-freezing procedures were performed (offered to 13). Twenty-four procedures of ovarian stimulation and oocyte freezing were performed after surgical treatment for 19 women (offered to 28) with a median interval of 188 days. The mean number of mature oocytes retrieved per stimulation was 12.4 ± 12.8. At least 10 mature oocytes were frozen for 52.6% of the women. No FP was offered to five women.

Oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation should be offered to patients with malignant and borderline ovarian tumors. More data are needed to confirm ovarian stimulation and ovarian tissue grafting safety.

Intimate partner violence is associated with adverse health consequences among people with diagnosed HIV, which could have implications for disease progression and transmission. However, nationally representative estimates of intimate partner violence among people with diagnosed HIV are lacking. Investigators used nationally representative data to estimate the prevalence of physical violence by an intimate partner among adults with diagnosed HIV and examine the differences by selected characteristics.

This analysis included interview and medical record data from the 2015-2017 cycles of the Medical Monitoring Project, analyzed in 2019. Weighted percentages and 95% CIs were used to report the prevalence of intimate partner violence among people with diagnosed HIV (N=11,768). Bivariate and multivariate differences in intimate partner violence by sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical characteristics were examined using Rao-Scott chi-square tests (p<0.05).

Among people with diagnosed HIV, 26.3% reported having ever experienced intimate partner violence, and 4.
