The purpose of our study was to differentiate arterial transit artifact from post-recanalization luxury perfusion on arterial spin labeling (ASL) image, and obtain the relationship between ASL signal intensity and clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.Thirty-five subjects with an acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) infarct were enrolled (18 with recanalized and 17 with non-recanalized MCAs). ASL images were obtained using pseudo-continuous ASL technique with 1600 ms (millisecond) of post-label delay within 3 days from symptom onset. Signal intensities on color ASL images were classified as high, intermediate, and poor grade visually. The ratio of maximum ASL signal between the ischemic area and contralateral side was calculated and compared between patients with and without MCA recanalization. Among patients with non-recanalized MCA, ASL signal ratios were compared between patients with and without hyperintense vessel sign on fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR). Various heavy metal elements in the human body have been reported to be associated with dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes. The role of cobalt in these conditions is unclear. The current study aimed to investigate the association of blood cobalt concentrations with dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes.Using the data collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2015-2018), we performed logistic regression to explore the association of blood cobalt concentrations with total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides, hypertension, and diabetes.A total of 6866 adults were included in this study. Participants with higher blood cobalt levels appeared to be older and have a lower body mass index and, were more likely to be female (P for trend < .05). After fully adjusting for demographic characteristics (Model 2), compared with the lowest quartile, the highest quartile of blood cobalt concentrations had lower odds ratios (ORs) for elevated TC [OR 0.62, 95% confidential interval (CI) 0.53 to 0.72, P < .001], elevated LDL-C (OR 0.65, 95% CI 0.53-0.80, P < .001) and low HDL-C (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.69-0.96, P = .013). The adjusted ORs for elevated TC, elevated LDL-C and low HDL-C were negatively correlated with increased blood cobalt concentrations (P for trend < .05). The adjusted ORs for hypertension and diabetes were not associated with blood cobalt concentrations (P > .05 and P for trend > .05).In conclusion, higher blood cobalt concentrations were associated with a lower risk of dyslipidemia. Gyeonggi-do (Gyeonggi province) has the second highest number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Republic of Korea after Seoul, with approximately 25% of the COVID-19 patients as of January 2021. Our center is a level I trauma center located in south Gyeonggi-do, and we aimed to evaluate whether the characteristics of trauma patients changed after the COVID-19 pandemic.We retrospectively reviewed the trauma patients registered with the Korea Trauma Database of the Center from February 2019 to January 2021. The patients were dichotomized into pre-coronavirus disease (pre-COVID) and coronavirus disease (COVID) groups, and their trauma volumes, injury characteristics, intentionality, and outcomes were compared.A total of 2628 and 2636 patients were included in the pre-COVID and COVID groups, respectively. During the COVID-19 period, motorcycle accidents, bicycle accidents, and penetrating injury cases increased, and pedestrian traffic accidents, slips, and injury by machines decreased. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there were significant differences in the intensity distributions of thoracic aorta hemodynamic parameters between groups with different ejection fractions (EF) using four-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging and to investigate the relationships between each parameter.A total of 26 patients, 13 each with EF of >60% and <30%, underwent cardiac four-dimensional flow magnetic resonance imaging (EF >60% mean age 54 ± 11.6 years, EF <30% mean age 49.2 ± 17.2 years). The thoracic aorta was divided into the proximal and distal ascending aorta (AAo), aortic arch, and the proximal and distal descending aorta, and each section was further divided into the anterior wall, posterior wall, lesser curvature, and greater curvature. The intensity distributions of wall shear stress (WSS), energy loss (EL), and vorticity (Vort) (hemodynamic parameters) and the concordance rates between these distributions were analyzed.The concordance rate between the inturvature of the AAo, whereas in the EF less then 30% group higher values were seen in the lesser curvature of the AAo.Although there was no significant intergroup difference in the WSS intensity distribution, in the EF less then 30% group the WSS intensity distribution tended to exhibit higher values in the lesser curvature of the distal AAo, and the WSS intensity distribution values for the greater curvature tended to gradually increase from the arch to the proximal descending aorta.The only significant differences between the EF groups were found in the intensity distributions of EL and Vort in the distal AAo. This suggests that the distributions of atherosclerosis may be EF-dependent.
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus, has infected millions worldwide with cancer patients demonstrating a higher prevalence for severe disease and poorer outcomes. Recently, the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine was released as the primary means to combat COVID-19. The currently reported incidence of local and systemic side effects was 27% in the general public. The safety of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine has not been studied in patients with an active cancer diagnosis who are either ongoing or plan to undergo oncologic therapy.This single center study reviewed the charts of 210 patients with active cancer diagnoses that received both doses of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. The development of side effects from the vaccine, hospitalizations or exacerbations from various oncologic treatment were documented. Type of oncologic treatment (immunotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal, biologic, radiation or mixed) was documented to identify if side effects were related to treatment type. Meniscus tears are usually classified as degenerative or traumatic tears according to their pathogenesis. At present, traumatic meniscal tears are generally believed to have high healing potential. In recent years, multiple treatments have been described for traumatic meniscal tears, such as the inside-out technique, outside-in technique, all-inside technique, biological augmentation of meniscal repair, meniscectomy, and non-surgical treatment. However, the functional recovery of the knee joint and healing of the meniscus after treatment are quite different from the results reported in the literature, which requires more reliable evidence-based medical findings. This study will evaluate evidence from multiple types of research comparing different therapies for traumatic meniscal tears in adults.

In recent years, the incidence rate of thyroid cancer is increasing. Meanwhile, with the development of medical technology, the detection rate of thyroid cancer by ultrasound has been greatly improved. Normally doctors can initially distinguish pathology of malignant thyroid diseases by their abundant experience. And it will bring assistance to follow-up treatment. However, the results of these studies have been contradictory. Therefore, this meta-analysis tested the hypothesis that ultrasound is accurate in distinguishing pathology of malignant thyroid diseases.
