These findings represent a new strategy to optimize catalysts for water splitting. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 is threating global health. Inhibiting interaction of the receptor-binding domain of SARS-CoV-2 S protein (SRBD ) and human ACE2 receptor is a promising treatment strategy. However, SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies are compromised by their risk of antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) and unfavorably large size for intranasal delivery. To avoid these limitations, we demonstrated an aptamer blocking strategy by engineering aptamers' binding to the region on SRBD that directly mediates ACE2 receptor engagement, leading to block SARS-CoV-2 infection. Solcitinib With aptamer selection against SRBD and molecular docking, aptamer CoV2-6 was identified and applied to prevent, compete with, and substitute ACE2 from binding to SRBD . CoV2-6 was further shortened and engineered as a circular bivalent aptamer CoV2-6C3 (cb-CoV2-6C3) to improve the stability, affinity, and inhibition efficacy. cb-CoV2-6C3 is stable in serum for more than 12 h and can be stored at room temperature for more than 14 days. Furthermore, cb-CoV2-6C3 binds to SRBD with high affinity (Kd =0.13 nM) and blocks authentic SARS-CoV-2 virus with an IC50 of 0.42 nM.Phosphor materials with broad spectral range and an average emission lifetime (20 μs) have been achieved from carbon dots (CDs)-NaCl crystals. A one-pot synthesis pathway has been developed for CDs-NaCl crystals formation at room temperature. Precursor for CDs materials was screened at room temperature by oxidation methodology from different simple sugar molecules. CDs (size less than 10 nm) prepared from the fructose sugar exhibit most intense emission. Utilizing ripe banana peel (contains ∼27% of fructose) as a precursor for the carbon dot formation, white-light emission with a CIE index of (0.29, 0.34) has been achieved from the single source with CDs-NaCl crystals upon excitation at 430 nm. The crystals also function as Fabry-Perot (F-P) mode resonator for lasing, with a laser threshold value of 0.9 mW and a resonating Q-factor of 207. These results outline a new approach for realizing F-P lasing and white light emission from a non-toxic green source with a quick, facile and low-cost synthesis procedure.Utilizing cost-effective raw materials to prepare high-performance silicon-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is both challenging and attractive. Herein, a porous SiFe@C (pSiFe@C) composite derived from low-cost ferrosilicon is prepared via a scalable three-step procedure, including ball milling, partial etching, and carbon layer coating. The pSiFe@C material integrates the advantages of the mesoporous structure, the partially retained FeSi2 conductive phase, and a uniform carbon layer (12-16 nm), which can substantially alleviate the huge volume expansion effect in the repeated lithium-ion insertion/extraction processes, effectively stabilizing the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) film and markedly enhancing the overall electronic conductivity of the material. Benefiting from the rational structure, the obtained pSiFe@C hybrid material delivers a reversible capacity of 1162.1 mAh g-1 after 200 cycles at 500 mA g-1 , with a higher initial coulombic efficiency of 82.30 %. In addition, it shows large discharge capacities of 803.1 and 600.0 mAh g-1 after 500 cycles at 2 and 4 A g-1 , respectively, manifesting an excellent electrochemical lithium storage. This work provides a good prospect for the commercial production of silicon-based anode materials for LIBs with a high lithium-storage capacity.
The relation between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and prostate cancer is not well established. The objective of this study was to determine whether CRF is associated with prostate cancer screening, incidence, or mortality.

The Henry Ford Exercise Testing Project is a retrospective cohort study of men aged 40 to 70 years without cancer who underwent physician-referred exercise stress testing from 1995 to 2009. CRF was quantified in metabolic equivalents of task (METs) (<6 [reference], 6-9, 10-11, and ≥12 METs), estimated from the peak workload achieved during a symptom-limited, maximal exercise stress test. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, incident prostate cancer, and all-cause mortality were analyzed with multivariable adjusted Poisson regression and Cox proportional hazard models.

In total, 22,827 men were included, of whom 739 developed prostate cancer, with a median follow-up of 7.5 years. Men who had high fitness (≥12 METs) had an 28% higher risk of PSA screening (95% CI, 1.2-1.3) comcer diagnosis, suggesting that the cancers identified may be low-risk with little impact on long-term outcomes. For several years, the role of immune system in the pathophysiology of psychosis has been well-recognized, showing differences from the onset to chronic phases. Our study aims to implement a biomarker-based classification model suitable for the clinical management of psychotic patients. A machine learning algorithm was used to classify a cohort of 362 subjects, including 160 first-episode psychosis patients (FEP), 70 patients affected by chronic psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder) with psychosis (CRO) and 132 health controls (HC), based on mRNA transcript levels of 56 immune genes. Models distinguished between FEP, CRO, and HC and between the subgroup of drug-free FEP and HC with a mean accuracy of 80.8% and 90.4%, respectively. Interestingly, by using the feature importance method, we identified some immune gene transcripts that contribute most to the classification accuracy, possibly giving new insights on the immunopathogenesis of psychosis. Therefore, our results suggest that our classification model has a high translational potential, which may pave the way for a personalized management of psychosis.Simultaneous dysregulation of multiple microRNAs (miRs) affects various pathological pathways related to cardiac failure. In addition to being potential cardiac disease-specific markers, miR-23b/27b/24-1 were reported to be responsible for conferring cardiac pathophysiological processes. In this study, we identified a conserved guanine-rich RNA motif within the miR-23b/27b/24-1 cluster that can form an RNA G-quadruplex (rG4) in vitro and in cells. Disruption of this intragenic rG4 significantly increased the production of all three miRs. Conversely, a G4-binding ligand tetrandrine (TET) stabilized the rG4 and suppressed miRs production in human and rodent cardiomyocytes. Our further study showed that the rG4 prevented Drosha-DGCR8 binding and processing of the pri-miR, suppressing the biogenesis of all three miRs. Moreover, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated G4 deletion in the rat genome aberrantly elevated all three miRs in the heart in vivo, leading to cardiac contractile dysfunction. Importantly, loss of the G4 resulted in reduced targets for the aforementioned miRs critical for normal heart function and defects in the L-type Ca2+ channel-ryanodine receptor (LCC-RyR) coupling in cardiomyocytes. Our results reveal a novel mechanism for G4-dependent regulation of miR biogenesis, which is essential for maintaining normal heart function.
The present study aimed to examine the prospective associations of physical frailty with future falls and fear of falling (FOF) among community-dwelling older adults.

A prospective cohort study with a 48-month follow-up was conducted in a Japanese community. Participants were 2469 community-dwelling older adults aged 65years or older who completed baseline and follow-up assessments at intervals of 48±2months. Primary outcomes were recent falls (defined as at least one fall within the past year) and FOF (determined by response to "Are you afraid of falling?") at follow-up survey. Physical frailty, operationalized by the frailty phenotype (slowness, weakness, exhaustion, weight loss, and low activity) based on the criteria of the Japanese version of the Cardiovascular Health Study (J-CHS), was also assessed as a predictor of future falls and FOF.

Multivariable logistic regression showed that prefrailty or frailty increase the risk of not only future falls (odds ratio [OR] 1.57; 95%CI=1.20-2.05) but also FOF (OR 1.33; 95%CI=1.05-1.69). In addition, the relationship between baseline frailty status and future falls remained significant after adjusting for baseline FOF (OR 1.55; 95%CI=1.19-2.02), and the relationship between baseline frailty status and future FOF also remained significant after adjusting for baseline falls (OR 1.32; 95%CI=1.04-1.68).

Frailty status may predict future falls and FOF among community-dwelling older adults. Strategies to prevent frailty may be beneficial to prevent not only future falls but also future FOF in a community setting.

Falls and FOF have a close relationship but a different clinical meaning. Older adults with physical frailty may require monitoring as high risk not only for falls but also for FOF.

Psychological treatments for chronic low back pain (CLBP) are effective. However, limited research has investigated their neurophysiological mechanisms. This study examined electroencephalography- (EEG-) assessed brain oscillation changes as potential mechanisms of cognitive therapy (CT), mindfulness-meditation (MM), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for CLBP. The a priori bandwidths of interest were changes in theta, alpha and beta power, measured at pre- and post-treatment.

A secondary analysis of a clinical trial.

University of Queensland Psychology Clinic.

Adults (N = 57) with CLBP who completed pre- and post-treatment EEG and pain outcome assessments.

EEG data were examined for five regions of interest (ROIs); the primary outcome was pain intensity.

A significant reduction in theta (p=.015) and alpha (p=.006) power in the left frontal ROI across all treatments was found, although change in theta and alpha power in this region was not differentially associated with outcome across s towards remedying central nervous system abnormalities associated with CLBP.
To determine the effect of one-click integration of a state's prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) on the number of PDMP searches and opioid prescriptions, stratified by specialty.

Our large health system worked with the state department of public health to integrate the PDMP with the electronic health record (EHR), which enabled providers to query the data with a single click inside the EHR environment. We evaluated Schedule II or III opioid prescriptions reported to the Massachusetts PDMP 6 months before (November 15, 2017-May 15, 2018) and 6 months after (May 16, 2018-November 16, 2018) integration. Search counts, prescriptions, patients, morphine milligram equivalents as well as prescriber specialty were compared.

There were 3,185 unique prescribers with a record of a Schedule II and/or III opioid prescription in both study periods that met inclusion criteria. After integration, the number of PDMP searches increased from 208,684 in the pre-integration phase to 298,478 searches in the post-integration phase (+43.
