To investigate feasibility and target engagement of high-dose, add-on pramipexole treatment in anhedonic depression.

In this open-label pilot study, we included 12 patients with unipolar or bipolar, moderate-to-severe depression and with significant anhedonia symptoms. All patients were on a stable dose of one or a combination of antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers and received 10 weeks of adjunctive pramipexole titrated to a maximum dose of 4.5mg salt/day. All patients were rated with the Dimensional Anhedonia Rating Scale (DARS), the Montgomery Åsberg Depression Rating (MADRS) and the Snaith Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS). Serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) was analyzed pre- and post-treatment. Eight patients underwent fMRI pre- and post-treatment and a simplified version of the monetary incentive delay task was used to investigate the effect of treatment on striatal activity during reward anticipation.

DARS, MADRS and SHAPS scores all improved significantly over 10 weeks of pramipexole treatment (
<0.01). Mean levels of hs-CRP decreased significantly over the course of treatment from mean 3.8mg/L at baseline to 2.6mg/L at endpoint (
<0.01). There were significant treatment-associated increases in reward related activity in several brain areas including the right lateral putamen, anterior left caudate, left posterior putamen, right dorsal caudate, left anterior putamen, and the right nucleus accumbens.

This is the first study to suggest efficacy and target engagement of pramipexole in anhedonic depression. Larger randomized controlled trials areneeded to confirm or refute these preliminary findings.

The aim of the study is to explore the characteristics of systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate (HR) changes in patients undergoing percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) for trigeminal neuralgia and analyze the factors that influence the formation of the symbolic pear shape of the balloon, which signifies successful compression.

We retrospectively analyzed the changes in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate (HR) in 103 consecutive patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Fifty-five patients who underwent operations with intermittent inflating cuff blood pressure (IICBP) monitoring were classified into the IICBP group. The other 48 patients who underwent continuous intra-arterial blood pressure (CIABP) monitoring were classified into the CIABP group.

Among all the patients, there were more women than men and the patients in both the groups more commonly had TN on the right side and involving branch III. First, the balloon appeared as "pear-shaped" when the compression was effective, and tion.
An unprecedented disruption in medical education worldwide was caused due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Online teaching has become one of the primary forms of education. In this paper, we aimed to understand the faculty and students' perceptions about the teaching styles adopted by the faculty during online large group teaching from two universities in the United Arab Emirates.

This is a cross-sectional opinion survey-based study. A pre-validated teaching style inventory in higher education (TSIHE) questionnaire was emailed to the students and faculty involved in large group online learning and teaching activities during the lock-down period of the COVID 19 pandemic from two different medical Universities in the United Arab Emirates. A total of 423 students and 57 faculty participated in the study. Descriptive and Inferential statistics were used to analyze the data.

There was a significant difference between the faculty and students on the perception of faculty online teaching styles. The difference was significant in teacher-student interaction and teacher structuring styles. In contrast, faculty and students' perceptions were comparable for decision-making negotiation and behavioral control teaching styles.

The study found that there was a significant perception differences between the faculty and students on the faculty teaching style during online large group teaching. Importantly, faculty perceived that they were more emotionally attached and more flexible in teacher-student interaction and teaching structuring during online teaching than the student perceived.

In both the preclinical and clinical sciences, anatomy is considered as the foundation of medical education. Anatomy education serves as a foundation for clinical application and future practice of medicine. Health practitioners and students are interested in the adequacy of anatomical knowledge in clinical years since it has a direct impact on medical education and professional clinical practice.

To examine the opinions and attitudes of medical students and clinicians regarding the preclinical and clinical years' teaching of anatomy and anatomical knowledge to medical students.

Participants in the study, including clinicians and medical students, were required to answer an 8-question, 5-point Likert scale questionnaire to assess their attitudes regarding anatomical knowledge. The maximum score was 40, and the higher the score, the more the positive attitude towards anatomical knowledge. The difference in the mean attitude score between males and females was investigated using the Independent sample
-ion of anatomy into the clinical rotations, clerkship, and specialist training.
Teaching anatomy to medical students is a continuous process. Therefore, we recommend reforming the anatomy curriculum by vertical integration of anatomy into the clinical rotations, clerkship, and specialist training.
Clinical standardization and calibration training is recommended to increase the reproducibility of periodontal probing, but its impact on manual periodontal probing outcomes has received little attention. This study examined the reproducibility of manual periodontal probing performed by a periodontist after completion of a comprehensive standardization and calibration training program.

A newly-educated periodontist was subjected to an individualized periodontal probing standardization and calibration training program involving approximately 24 total hours of lecture, bench-top, and clinical instruction/evaluation. selleck chemicals llc Satisfactory completion of each portion of the training program required ≥ 95% intra-examiner agreement within 1 mm between initial and repeat measurements, and a ≥ 90% level of exact agreement with measurements by a "gold standard" examiner. The periodontist then evaluated bleeding on probing (BOP) and performed duplicate measurements of probing depth (PD) and the distance between the cementoeearch studies to improve the diagnostic performance of manual periodontal probing of the periodontium.
These findings demonstrate that a rigorous periodontal probing standardization and calibration training program facilitates acquisition of highly reproducible PD and CAL assessments in moderate to deep inflamed periodontal pockets with a manual periodontal probe. Similar formal hands-on training should be incorporated into dental education programs and clinical research studies to improve the diagnostic performance of manual periodontal probing of the periodontium.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are both the most common underlying diseases leading to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, and NAFLD and HBV infection are the first and second leading causes of chronic liver disease in China. However, there are still a lot of controversies about whether the combined presence of CHB and NAFLD will affect the course or outcome of liver disease together with HBV, and how the two affect each other.

To investigate the effect of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).

Computer searches of databases such as PubMed, CNKI, VIP.com, and Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform were used. The time frame was from the creation of the database to June 2022. The search subject terms were hepatitis B, CHB, or NAFLD. The observation group consisted of patients with e antigen-positive CHB with NAFLD, and the control group consisted of patients with e-antigen + CHB. Extracts includsonable antiviral therapy should be administered.
NAFLD reduces the effect of antiviral therapy in CHB patients, and the clinicopathological features of patients with NAFLD combined with chronic hepatitis B are different from those of patients with chronic hepatitis B alone, so early diagnosis by liver histological examination should be actively performed and reasonable antiviral therapy should be administered.
There has been a gradual trend towards younger ageing of acute cerebral infarction in recent years. Atherosclerotic plaque rupture followed by dislodgement of emboli and resulting arterial embolism is an important mechanism for the development of acute cerebral infarction. Traditional independent risk factors for cerebral infarction have received attention from clinicians, but the risk factors for large artery atherosclerotic cerebral infarction are still unclear. Various blood biomarkers have an important role in the early diagnosis of large artery atherosclerotic cerebral infarction.

To assess the diagnostic predictive value of a group of biomarkers for large artery atherosclerotic cerebral infarction.

Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (LP-PLA2), trypsin-like protein (TPS), serum amyloid A (SAA), and supersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels were measured in the case group (30 cases) and control group (54 cases), respectively.

The differences in the general data between the two groups were not statistically significant (
> 0.05). Logistic regression and ROC curve analysis showed that Lp-PLA2, TPS, and SAA were positively associated with the diagnosis of large atherosclerotic cerebral infarction (
< 0.05). The area under the ROC curve of the multivariate model for the biomarker group reached 0.995.

Biomarkers are closely associated with the occurrence of large atherosclerotic cerebral infarction and can be used as clinical adjuncts for diagnosis and assessment of prognosis.
