Orv Hetil. 2020; 161(15) 588-593.BACKGROUND The FLEX-LONG study assessed the safety and clinical outcomes of ultra- long (44 mm/48 mm) biodegradable polymer-coated Supraflex (Sahajanand Medical Tsechnology Pvt. Ltd., Surat, India) sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) in real-world patients with complex, long coronary artery lesions. METHODS It was an investigator-initiated, retrospective, non-randomized, observational and single-center study, which evaluated one-year results of 141 patients who had undergone implantation of at least one ultra-long (44 mm/48 mm) Supraflex SES. The incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE), a composite of cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI) and target lesion revascularization (TLR), at one-year follow-up was considered as primary outcome. Stent thrombosis was analyzed as a safety outcome. RESULTS The mean age of the study population was 56.2±9.6 years and 78.0% (110/141) patients were male. The study analyzed high risk patients, including 62 (44.0%) hypertensive and 60 (42.6%) diabetic patients. Total 147 target lesions were treated, including 25 (17.0%) total occlusions. Total 51 (34.7%) and 96 (65.3%) Supraflex SES of 44 mm and 48 mm were implanted, respectively. Average stent length and diameter were 46.6±1.9 mm and 3.4±0.2 mm, respectively. One-year follow-up was obtained in 100% of patients. There was one probable stent thrombosis after three weeks. At one-year follow-up, 99.3% of patients remained event free. CONCLUSIONS The results of the FLEX-LONG study support the use of ultra-long (44 mm/48 mm) Supraflex SES, in the treatment of high risk real-world patients. The stent appeared to be safe and effective at one-year with low clinical events in complex, long coronary artery lesions.Distributed widely across the rice growing regions of India, the rice leaf and bud nematode (Aphelenchoides besseyi Christie 1942) can cause substantial yield loss in rice. Whitening of leaf tips is the characteristics damage symptom of this nematode and therefore it is popularly referred to as the rice white tip nematode (RWTN). While information on the damage severity of RWTN is available from others parts of the country, to date, no information is available from the state of Jharkhand. In order to generate a detailed information on spatial distribution of this nematode and to identify infestation hotspots, extensive field sampling was conducted across the Giridih district of Jharkhand. In total, 163 samples with each sample consisting of 30 randomly chosen panicles from three nearby rice fields were collected across the district. Moran's I spatial autocorrelation test confirmed the presence of significant spatial clustering among the sampling locations. Optimized hotspot analysis found the presence of one significant hotspot in Dumri block and cold spots in adjoining areas of Gawan, Tisri, and Dhanwar blocks. Spatial interpolation techniques like inverse distance weighting (IDW) and ordinary kriging (OK) were employed to predict the population density at unsampled locations. Both IDW and OK resulted into generation of similar kind of maps where population density was found to be higher in Dumri, Giridih, Bengabad and some other pockets of the district. Finally, indicator kriging approach was employed which resulted into identifying both risk and nematode free areas. In risk areas, where the probability of the population density exceeding the economic threshold limit is high, immediate quarantine measures should be taken to prevent further dissemination of contaminated seeds. Our study provided a scientifically based decision method to devise preventive and curative protection measures against A. besseyi, a neglected pest of quarantine significance of rice in India.In early 2016, hop plants were introduced into Florida. By late 2016, the hop plants were showing stunted growth and were heavily parasitized by Meloidogyne javanica. In this study, we determined host susceptibility of 14 hop cultivars to M. javanica in a greenhouse experiment and monitored population development of plant-parasitic nematode species in the root zone of 17 hop cultivars planted in three newly established hop yards in Florida. Plant-parasitic nematodes in the rooting zone soil of field grown hop plants included M. javanica, Pratylenchus brachyurus, Paratrichodorus minor, Belonolaimus longicaudatus, Xiphinema setariae/vulgare complex, Mesocriconema xenoplax, and Helicotylenchus dihystera; however, soil population densities of P. minor, B. longicaudatus, X. setariae/vulgare complex, M. xenoplax, and H. dihystera remained low through the study. Root galling, M. javanica egg production, and soil population densities of M. javanica were consistently large on the 'Canadian Red Vine', 'Centennial', 'Chinook', and 'Comet' cultivars, and small on the 'Galena' and 'Triple Perle' cultivars.
