Kidney stone disease seems to be associated with an increased risk of incident cardiovascular outcomes; the aim of this study is to identifydifferences in 24-h urine excretory profiles and stone composition among stone formers with and without cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Data from patients attending the Department of Renal Medicine's metabolic stone clinic from 1995 to 2012 were reviewed. The sample was divided according to the presence or absence of CVD (myocardial infarction, angina, coronary revascularization, or surgery for calcified heart valves). Univariable and multivariable regression models, adjusted for age, sex, BMI, hypertension, diabetes, eGFR, plasma bicarbonate and potential renal acid load of foods were used to investigate differences across groups.

1826 patients had available data for 24-h urine analysis. Among these, 108 (5.9%) had a history of CVD. Those with CVD were older, have higher prevalence of hypertension and diabetes and lower eGFR. Univariable analysis showed that patients with CVD had significantly lower 24-h urinary excretions for citrate (2.4 vs 2.6 mmol/24 h, p = 0.04), magnesium (3.9 vs 4.2 mmol/24 h, p = 0.03) and urinary pH (6.1 vs 6.2, p = 0.02). After adjustment for confounders, differences in urinary citrate and magnesium excretions remained significant. No differences in the probability of stone formation or stone compositions were found.

Stone formers with CVD have lower renal alkali excretion, possibly suggesting higher acid retention in stone formers with cardiovascular comorbidities. Randomized clinical trials including medications and a controlled diet design are needed to confirm the results presented here.

To investigate the changes in body fat distribution and predicting factors of these changes in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients with obesity, after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

This study consecutively enrolled 153 patients with obesity aged 18-45 years (83 with PCOS and 70 control patients) who underwent LSG from May 2013 to September 2020 at the Department of Endocrinology, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, with a 12-month follow-up. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was used to assess body fat distribution.

The percentage of fat mass loss in the visceral adipose tissue (VAT) region (55.08%) was more than that in any other body regions at 12 months post-surgery in the PCOS group yet insignificant. Homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) at baseline and Δ HOMA-IR were only negatively correlated with the variations in VAT mass and volume at 3 months post-surgery in the PCOS group. Logistic regression analysis showed that HOMA-IR <6.65 was an independent p insignificant. • HOMA-IR at baseline was an independent risk factor for the changes of VAT mass in patients with PCOS.
Obesity is one of the most important risk factors for acute pancreatitis. Based on the effect of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on improving body weight and blood lipids, we investigated whether SG is beneficial in improving pancreatitis in obese rats.

Two studies were used to evaluate the effect of SG on the first onset of pancreatitis and acute episodes of recurrent pancreatitis in obese rats. A high-fat diet (HFD) for 8 weeks resulted in obesity in rats. Study 1 Obese rats were treated with SG and sham surgery. Pancreatitis was induced by intraperitoneal injection of cerulein at 6 weeks after surgery. The severity of pancreatitis was assessed by histological examination, cytokines, and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Study 2 performed the same procedure as in study 1, except that rats were intraperitoneally injected with a small dose of cerulein three times a week for 6 weeks before surgery to induce recurrent pancreatitis.

The body weight, food intake, and blood lipids of SG rats in study 1 and study 2 were significantly lower than those of sham rats during the 6 weeks after surgery. Compared with sham rats, SG rats in both studies had fewer inflammatory cytokines, inflammatory cell infiltration, and pathological injury in the pancreas after cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis.

In this paper, we propose a structure of using supervised and unsupervised machine learning models with genomic sequence features, such as k-mers, sequence alignments, and energy folding values, to validate miRNAs and lncRNAs association with breast cancer and neoplasms scenarios. Using One-Class SVM for outlier detection and comparing two supervised models such as SVM and Random Forest, we manage to obtain accuracy results of 95.44% for the One-class model, with 88.79% and 99.65% for the SVM and Random Forest models, respectively. The results showed a promising path for the study of sequence features interactions joined with Machine Learning models comparable to those found in the existing literature.
Solid organ transplantation (SOT) is a treatment method for end-stage organ diseases and improve their life quality, while using long-term immunosuppressant drugs (ISD) is needed to suppress the function of the immune system. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are a class of anti-tumor drugs that kill tumors by activating the autoimmune system. The primary objective of our systematic review is to investigate the risk factors for organ rejection and the efficacy of ICIs in solid organ transplantation recipients (SOTRs).

We searched four databases to find relevant articles up to January 2021. A total of 61 articles involving 106 SOTRs met the screening criteria and were included in our systematic review. The collected data were statistical described, and the risk factors were analyzed by logistic regression.

To provide health care professionals and PLWH with effective tools for supporting adherence, researchers have investigated the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions to enhance adherence to ART. In this paper, interventional studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses that examine ART adherence interventions for PLWH are reviewed.

Despite a diverse and wide-ranging assortment of ART adherence interventions, consistent lessons have been learned. Theory-based behavioral interventions are more likely to be effective than non-theory-based interventions, and interventions should be tailored to those most at risk for poor adherence. Digital and mobile ART adherence interventions have the potential to improve dissemination and implementation of evidence-based treatments, both domestically and abroad. There is great variability among interventions in terms of quality, intervention, sample, measures, and outcome characteristics. However, even with this variability, systematic reviews and meta-analyses have demonstrated that psychosocial interventions can improve ART adherence.
