The developed wgMLST scheme provides an improved understanding of the intra- and inter-outbreak genetic diversity of P. larvae and represents an important progress in unraveling the genomic epidemiology of this important honeybee pathogen.Despite being of debatable efficacy, alternative medicines are in regular use on both organic and conventional dairy farms as part of a strategy for limiting the on-farm use of antibiotics. The study presented here examined French dairy farmers' understanding of and experiences with these medicines, focusing on homeopathy, aromatherapy and phytotherapy. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach combining animal science and sociology, we considered how dairy farmers' use of alternative medicines fits into a holistic approach to herd health management, on the one hand, and into farmers' networks of professional relationships, on the other. Our findings show that farmers are interested in alternative medicines for reasons that are at once technical, ethical, and economic. In the absence of local veterinarians specializing in homeopathy and aromatherapy, farmers enroll in short-term training courses to learn how to use these medicines. Alternative medicines are not a substitute for conventional medicine for these farmers; rather, they constitute one part of a holistic approach to herd health that combines preventive measures with a variety of curative treatments, and which is grounded in close attention to the animals' state of health. Farmers make use of guidelines for observing livestock that are central to the veterinary alternative medicine approach. Interestingly, women farmers appear to play an important role in introducing these practices into the management of the farm operation. Finally, farmers' interest in alternative medicines is indicative of their broader expectations for advice and support in moving toward the integrated management of livestock health, a key element of the agroecological transition. Recognizing these expectations offers useful insights for rethinking the role of veterinarians in dairy farming.Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications are seriously affecting public health worldwide. Myocardial infarction (MI) is the primary cause of death in patients with T2DM. T2DM patients without a history of coronary artery disease (CAD) have the same risk of major coronary events as those with CAD; T2DM patients with a history of MI have >40% risk of recurrence of MI. Thus, CAD in patients with T2DM needs to be treated actively to reduce the risk of MI. The cardiology community focused on the role of T2DM in the development of CAD and on the related issues of T2DM and MI with respect to comorbidities, prognosis, drug therapy, and heredity. In this mini review, the latest progress of clinical evidence-based research between T2DM and MI in recent years was reviewed, and the possible research directions in this field were considered and prospected.In the evolving scenario of the transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr), TMVr devices constitute a rapidly expanding field. Hyperuricemia is an important risk factor that contributes to atrium injury and AF, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains to be elucidated. In this review, we discussed the scientific evidence for clarifying the role of hyperuricemia in the pathogenesis of AF. Experimental and Clinical evidence endorse hyperuricemia as an independent risk factor for the incidence of AF. Various in vivo and in vitro investigations showed that hyperuricemia might play a critical role in the pathogenesis of AF at different UA concentrations through the activation of oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, apoptosis, and immunity.Multimodality imaging is of imperative value for the planning and guidance of transcatheter mitral valve interventions. This review employs the value of different imaging modalities and future implications for clinical practice.Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) can cause arrhythmia, heart failure, and even sudden death. Our aim in this study was to identify potential metabolic biomarkers in patients with ACS. The serum metabonomics approach based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC)/Orbitrap mass spectrometer (MS) was used to analyze the serum samples from 45 patients with ACS and 29 healthy controls. Multivariate statistical analysis was used to screen for ACS biomarkers. In total, 69 biomarkers were identified to be enriched in 19 metabolic pathways; 43 biomarkers were significantly up-regulated, while 26 biomarkers were significantly down-regulated in the ACS group. The main classes were lyso-sphingolipid (SM), cinnamic acids, cholines, and primary amides. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that lysoPC(204(8Z,11Z,14Z,17Z)/00) (ROC area under the curve, AUC = 0.936), SM(d180/160) (ROC AUC = 0.932), and SM(d181/140) (ROC AUC = 0.923) had a high ACS diagnostic ability. The AUC value of the diagnostic model constructed using these combined biomarkers was 0.96. Therefore, these biomarkers may improve the diagnostic efficacy of ACS. The findings of this study also implied that glycerophospholipid metabolism; the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids; linoleic acid metabolism; and valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis played important roles in ACS. Network analysis by ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) showed these biomarkers were correlated to the cardiac hypertrophy signaling pathway, ERK/MAPK signaling pathway, NF-kappa B signaling pathway, nitric oxide (NO) signaling pathway in cardiovascular system, and TLR-signaling pathway. These findings will help to improve the ability of accurate diagnosis and intervention of ACS.Background White matter lesions (WMLs) are highly prevalent in older adults, and hypertension is one of the main contributors to WMLs. The blood pressure (BP) is regulated by complex underlying mechanisms over multiple time scales, thus the continuous beat-to-beat BP fluctuation is complex. The association between WMLs and hypertension may be manifested as diminished complexity of BP fluctuations. The aim of this pilot study is to explore the relationships between hypertension, BP complexity, and WMLs in older adults. Method Fifty-three older adults with clinically diagnosed hypertension and 47 age-matched older adults without hypertension completed one MRI scan and one BP recording of 10-15 min when sitting quietly. Methods The study enrolled 37,596 CAD patients and measured HbAlc at admission in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. The patients were divided into 4 groups according to HbAlc level (Quartile 1 HbA1c ≤ 5.7%; Quartile 2 5.7% 6.7%), aHR = 1.32, 95% CI1.19-1.47, P less then 0.05]. Heart failure is not an exception to these differences. Women account for a minority of patients on the waiting list for heart transplantation or other advanced heart failure therapies. The reason for this under-representation is unknown. Men have a worse cardiovascular risk profile and suffer more often from ischemic heart disease. Conversely, transplanted women are younger and more frequently have non-ischemic cardiac disorders. Women's poorer survival on the waiting list for heart transplantation has been previously described, but this trend has been corrected in recent years. The use of ventricular assist devices in women is progressively increasing, with comparable results than in men. The indication rate for a heart transplant in women (number of women on the waiting list for millions of habitants) has remained unchanged over the past 25 years. Long-term results of heart transplants are equal for both men and women. We have analyzed the data of a national registry of heart transplant patients to look for possible future directions for a more in-depth study of sex differences in this area. We have analyzed 1-year outcomes of heart transplant recipients. We found similar results in men and women and no sex-related interactions with any of the factors related to survival or differences in death causes between men and women. We should keep trying to approach sex differences in prospective studies to confirm if they deserve a different approach, which is not supported by current evidence.Aims COVID-19 patients with comorbidities such as hypertension or heart failure (HF) are associated with poor clinical outcomes. The cellular distribution of Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the critical enzyme for SARS-CoV-2 infection, in the human heart is unknown. We explore the underlying mechanism that leads to increased susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 in patients with cardiovascular diseases and patients of cardiac dysfunction have increased risk of multi-organ injury compared with patients of normal cardiac function. Methods and Results We analyzed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data in both normal and failing hearts. The results demonstrated that ACE2 is present in cardiomyocytes (CMs) and non-CMs, while the number of ACE2-postive (ACE2+) CMs and ACE2 gene expression in these CMs are significantly increased in the failing hearts. Interestingly, both brain natriuretic peptides (BNP) and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) are significantly up-regulated in the ACE2+ CMs, which is consistent with other studies that ACE2, ANP, and BNP increased in HF patients.
