The diarylethene chromophore is commonly used in light-triggered molecular switches. Here, we investigate the gas-phase photoisomerisation of meta- (m) and para- (p) substituted dithienylethene carboxylate anions (DTE-) using tandem ion mobility mass spectrometry coupled with laser excitation. The ring-closed forms of p-DTE- and m-DTE- are found to undergo cycloreversion in the gas phase with maximum responses associated with bands in the visible (λmax ≈ 600 nm) and the ultraviolet (λmax ≈ 360 nm). The ring-open p-DTE- isomer undergoes 6π-electrocyclisation in the ultraviolet region at wavelengths shorter than 350 nm, whereas no evidence is found for the corresponding electrocyclisation of ring-open m-DTE-, a situation attributed to the fact that the antiparallel geometry required for electrocyclisation of m-DTE- is energetically disfavoured. This highlights the influence of the carboxylate substitution position on the photochemical properties of DTE molecules. We find no evidence for the formation in the gas phase of the undesirable cyclic byproduct, which causes fatigue of DTE photoswitches in solution.
No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) status is applied to individuals and families that are subject to immigration control, resulting in them having restricted access to state-funded benefits within England. NRPF is a public health risk as it increases the risk of destitution among vulnerable migrants.

The aim of this study was to engage with public and voluntary sector staff within Wolverhampton working with people with a NRPF status to develop and create an easily accessible guide ('protocol') to help facilitate identification of appropriate cross-sector interventions and support.

Data were collected via an online survey as well as face-to-face semi-structured interviews with local NRPF stakeholders.

Four themes emerged from the thematic analysis of participant responses understanding NRPF statuses, varying support requirements, poor communication and awareness of vulnerabilities. Currently, in England, there does not appear to be a standardised localised protocol which can be used to reduce the complexities and confusion encountered by public and voluntary sectors who support people with NRPF status.

Using different cell culture epithelia, we applied biotinylated dextran tracers carrying an acceptor fluorophore. Confocal fluorescence microscopy was applied to living epithelia in order to image apical-to-basolateral tracer passage as a Förster resonance energy transfer signal of the fluorescent dextran-avidin pair over time. Stimulated macromolecule passage using barrier-perturbing agents proved its effectiveness for the leak imaging method presented herein. Over hours of imaging, spontaneous leaks were rare, occurring transiently on the scale of minutes and for the most part associated with rearranging cell junctions. The discussed approach to leak imaging is expected to promote the understanding of epithelial barriers, particularly, the nature and dynamics of the epithelial cell leak pathway.
Co-production is an emerging field in public health practice. We aim to present evidence of what works well to support co-production and what can be improved based upon learning from our evaluation of a co-production project implemented by Rape Crisis England and Wales (RCEW). RCEW designed and delivered a national co-production project called Weaving the Web, to inform the development of an online support service for women who have experienced sexual violence.

We qualitatively evaluated the RCEW co-production approach. This study evaluated the impacts of drinking on left atrial substrate and AF recurrence after ablation. Methods and Results We prospectively enrolled 110 patients with AF without structural heart disease (64±12 years) from 2 institutions. High-density left atrial electroanatomic mapping was performed using a high-density grid multipolar catheter. We investigated the impact of alcohol consumption on left atrial voltage, left atrial conduction velocity, and AF ablation outcome. Patients were classified as abstainers (7 drinks/wk). High-density mapping (mean 2287±600 points/patient) was performed on 49 abstainers, 27 mild drinkers, and 34 moderate-heavy drinkers. Low-voltage zone and slow-conduction zone were identified in 39 (35%) and 54 (49%) patients, respectively. There was no significant difference in the proportions of low-voltage zone and slow-conduction zone among the 3 groups. The success rate after a single ablation was significantly lower in drinkers than in abstainers (79.3% versus 95.9% at 12 months; mean follow-up, 18±8 months; P=0.013). The success rate after a single or multiple ablations was not significantly different among abstainers and drinkers. In multivariate analysis, alcohol consumption (P=0.02) and the presence of a low-voltage zone (P=0.032) and slow-conduction zone (P=0.02) were associated with AF recurrence after a single ablation, while low-voltage zone (P=0.023) and slow-conduction zone (P=0.024) were associated with AF recurrence after a single or multiple ablations. Conclusions Alcohol consumption was associated with AF recurrence after a single ablation but not changes in atrial substrate.1. These emerging strategies and existing technologies are reviewed along with various perspectives on their future improvement and the development of robust precision genome editing technologies for plants.
Despite demonstrating positive outcomes in education, academic positions for Experts by Experience in mental health have not been widely implemented. To date positions have been driven by individual champions (allies). Their motivation for this support has not yet been researched.

To deepen understanding of motivations of mental health academics who have championed and supported implementation of EBE positions.

A Qualitative exploratory, study was undertaken involving in-depth individual interviews with 16 academics with experience of actively supporting the implementation of Expert by Experience positions in academia. Data were analysed independently by two researchers using a structured thematic framework.

Motivations commonly arose from allies' own experiences of working with or exposure to Experts by Experience. Other motivating factors included belief in the value of specific knowledge and expertise Experts by Experience contributed to mental health education; and, identifying the essential role Experts by Experience play in meeting policy expectations, and the broader philosophy of the university.

The motivations identified by allies in this study have implications for Expert by Experience roles. Deeper understanding of motivations to support these roles is essential to arguing for their value, and ultimately producing positive outcomes in the education of health professionals.
