The text extracted from the initial paragraph of a paper coauthored by Zanvil Cohn, one of the pioneers in the study of leukocyte biology, highlights two phenomena that stimulated investigations of innate immunity in the middle of the last century, namely phagocytosis and intracellular antimicrobial activity. Although many features of phagocytosis have been characterized since that time, fundamental aspects of the antimicrobial action of neutrophils remain unknown. The report by Ashby et al. provides a refined and nuanced look at the interface between an ingested microbe, Staphylococcus aureus, and HOCl generated by the myeloperoxidase (MPO)-H2 O2 -chloride system in neutrophil phagosomes and represents a holistic approach to the analysis of bactericidal mechanisms that recognizes contributions from both phagocyte and its ingested prey.
Investigation of the origin of a
outbreak in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Retrospective case-control study.

Regional level 3 perinatal center in Germany.

This study included 4
-positive and 19
-negative neonates treated between February 1 and February 26, 2019, in the neonatal intensive care unit.

A case-control study was performed to identify the source of the outbreak. The molecular investigation of S. marcescens isolates collected during the outbreak was performed using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and next-generation sequencing.

The retrospective case-control study showed a significant correlation (P < .0001) between S. marcensens infection or colonization and consumption of donor milk that had tested negative for pathogenic bacteria from a single breast milk donor. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and next-generation sequencing retrospectively confirmed an S. marcescens strain isolated from the breast milk of this donor as the possible origin of the initial outbreak. The outbreak was controlled by the implementation of an infection control bundle including a multidisciplinary infection control team, temporary nutrition of infants with formula only and/or their mother's own milk, repeated screening of all inpatients, strict coat and glove care, process observation, retraining of hand hygiene and continuous monitoring of environmental cleaning procedures.

Low-level contaminated raw donor milk can be a source of infection and colonization of preterm infants with S. marcescens even if it tests negative for bacteria.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a rare disorder among the elderly, characterized by gait disorder, dementia, and urinary incontinence. Considering the rareness of NPH and a lot of other pathologies, such as Parkinson's disease, lumbar spinal stenosis, and even aging cause similar symptoms, NPH is an underdiagnosed entity. However, the percentage of misdiagnosis is not given in the literature.

In this study, patients diagnosed with NPH were retrospectively screened between 2015 and May 2019 in our clinical database and Ste-P formula was applied. Example cases showed that some of the patients receive inaccurate medical and surgical treatments before being diagnosed with NPH.

As a result of the study was seen that a few out of 29 patients confused dizziness with trunkal ataxia or imbalance due to gait abnormality. As the time between onset of complaints and diagnosis increased, the value approached "zero", and diagnosis became difficult.

Every unnecessary operation carries serious risks that may tcan be easily confused with each other, we recommend in this article a new formula to reduce the possibility of misdiagnosis and treatment in patients with walking disorder.
This study aimed to evaluate the technical aspects of the Da Vinci Xi Surgical System in minimally invasive extreme lateral lumbar interbody fusion (XLIF) surgery in a swine model.

Endoscopic discectomy and XLIF cage insertion were performed using a robot-assisted system. The time taken and the pros and cons of each step were recorded.

Operative time was 80 min. For the surgery, four ports were used one for the endoscope camera, two for bipolar forceps, and one auxiliary port modified for discectomy. Discectomy was performed using a punch and curette, following which the cage was inserted through the auxiliary port. Cage position was manipulated using the C-arm. No complications or cage malposition's were noted during the procedure.

This study shows that the robot-assisted XLIF approach is safe and feasible, and it protected the neurovascular structures. High image quality was also obtained during the procedure.

To investigate the angiogenic effects of bevacizumab and imatinib on different meningioma tissue grades.

In this study, in silico analysis of angiogenesis-related gene expression was carried out using previously reported datasets. CDK inhibitor drugs Messenger ribonucleic acid expressions of VEGFA, VEGFB, PDGFRA, and PDGFRB genes were obtained from two different meningioma transcriptome datasets. The effect of antiangiogenic drugs, bevacizumab and imatinib, on meningiomainduced vascularization was assessed by using rat corneal angiogenesis assay (CAA).

Bevacizumab and imatinib both significantly reduced meningioma-induced neovascularization in the CAA model.

The angiogenic characteristics of meningiomas may be suppressed by using antiangiogenic drugs to prevent neovascularization, thus improving prognosis.

This study aims to explore the effect of pathogenesis-based individualised thrombectomy on the clinical results and prognoses of acute intracranial large-artery occlusion.

A total of 151 patients were included in this prospective study and divided into the control group (stent thrombectomy, 53 cases), a direct aspiration first pass technique (ADAPT) group (52 cases) and the stent group (stent thrombectomy or a combination of stent thrombectomy and ADAPT, 46 cases) based on whether stent or ADAPT was used. We compared and analysed the patients' general information, the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NHISS) score at admission, the time between the end of arteriography and revascularisation, the number of thrombectomies, the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score at three months and complications in the three groups.

Compared with the control group, the time between the end of arteriography and revascularisation in the ADAPT group was significantly reduced (P 0.05), and the patency rate after one thrombectomy significantly increased (P 0.05). The positive prognosis rate was significantly increased in the stent and ADAPT groups compared with the control group (P 0.05).

The application of the ADAPT technique in patients with embolism-induced cerebral infarction can reduce the time of revascularisation. The use of stents in patients with atherosclerosis-induced cerebral infarction can increase the patency rate after one thrombectomy.

To conduct an animal experimental study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the compression-resistant matrix (CRM) carrier for recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) in osteogenesis.

New moldable CRM carrier, and with rhBMP-2 (new CRM carrier with rhBMP-2) were prepared as the experimental groups. Pre-existing synthetic bone graft material was prepared as a control graft group. A total of 24 rabbits were included in the study. Defects were made and grafts were performed, and radiographic and histopathologic findings were evaluated to assess fusion.

In the computed tomographic scan, new bone formation was superior in 16.0%, 39.3%, 64.7%, and 81.1% of the total defect volume at 4, 8, 12, and 16 weeks in the new CRM carrier with rhBMP-2 group. In the new CRM carrier group, new bone formation was observed in 10.6%, 26.3%, 53.1%, and 71.4%, respectively. In the control graft group, new bone formation was observed in 10.1%, 26.6%, 53.4%, and 72.1%, respectively. On histopathologic evaluation, new CRM carrier with rhBMP-2 group showed better new bone formation compared with those of other groups.

The new moldable CRM carrier and the CRM carrier with rhBMP-2 showed preclinical safety and efficacy in new bone formation. In particular, the CRM carrier with rhBMP-2 was considered to be an effective bone graft material for bone fusion.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a severe disease with very high mortality, and most TBI patients are young adults. In the present study, we aimed to explore whether the combination regimen of dexmedetomidine (Dex) and butorphanol (But) could benefit patients with TBI.

A total of 208 TBI patients admitted from February 2018 to January 2020 were randomly divided into four groups as follows control group (A), Dex group (B), But group (C), and combination of Dex and But group (D). Statistical analysis was performed to assess the changes in vital signs, oxygen saturation, serum neuroendocrine data, pain, and agitation scores.

The statistical data of vital signs and blood oxygen saturation of the four groups were compared, and the differences between group A and group D were statistically significant (P 0.05), indicating that a combination of sedative and analgesic agents at low doses could improve the vital signs of TBI patients, and the safety was relatively good. The scores of pain and agitation in the combination group were significantly improved on days 3 and 5, suggesting that the combination group was better compared with the control group.

The combination of Dex and But was more suitable for the treatment of vital signs. Compared with the individual treatment groups, the patients in the combination group had a rapid improvement. Collectively, the combination of Dex and But could significantly benefit the prognosis of TBI.

To improve the extent and safety of resecting these deep-seated tumors, we report a novel procedure of minimally invasive endoscopic resection of deep-seated pilocytic astrocytomas under the guidance of 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) fluorescence undescribed until now.

A 53-year-old male presented with a gradually progressing mild right hemiparesis. Imaging studies showed a solid tumor with degenerative cystic formation in the left basal ganglia. The tumor was removed endoscopically via right frontal small craniotomy. The tumor was positive for 5-ALA fluorescence and allowed better detection of the dissection margin of the solid tumor from the surrounding brain tissue. The histopathological diagnosis was pilocytic astrocytoma. No recurrence was observed on follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 2 years after surgery, and the patient was fully independent after rehabilitation.

This minimally invasive technique, enhanced by intraoperative fluorescence, might be a safe and feasible alternative to open surgery in the removal of deeply located gliomas.
