Results Compared to the control group, CNSs showed significant wound healing activities with lower inflammatory cells infiltration, higher fibroblastosis and new epithelium thickness, and greater granulation area and collagen fibers density in the ulcer bed. In addition, honey synergistically increased the wound healing activity of the studied nanoparticles. Conclusion These results showed that CNSs have promising wound healing activity specially when dissolved with honey concurrently.Chimney endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (ch-EVAR) has become a valid alternative to treat complex aneurysms but the occurrence of contrast-induced kidney injury (CI-AKI) is poorly known. This study investigated the incidence and the impact of CI-AKI on post-operative outcomes after ch-EVAR. Consecutive patients who underwent ch-EVAR between July 2010 and 2021 were retrospectively included. check details CI-AKI was defined based on plasma creatinine levels within 7 days after the intervention according to the "Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes" (KDIGO) classification. Among 102 patients included, CI-AKI occurred in 14 cases (13.7%). The 30-day post-operative mortality and complications were significantly higher in patients who developed CI-AKI compared with those who did not (50 vs 9.1%, P = .001 and 57.1 vs 20.5%, P = .007). Over a median follow-up of 24 months (3-39), overall mortality was also significantly higher (78.6 vs 33.0%, P = .002). The pre-operative platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was significantly higher in patients who developed CI-AKI (224.5 vs 147.6, P = .008). CI-AKI is frequent after ch-EVAR and is associated with worse post-operative outcomes. This should increase awareness of clinicians to optimize preventive and therapeutic strategies. In the estimation of Zr using the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometric technique, fluoride interference is a decade-old unsolved problem. The process of repeated fuming with strong acids is often used to remove fluoride from the solution in order to estimate Zr using spectrophotometry analysis. For the first time, in this work, a simple use of AlCl3 is reported as a suppressing reagent to eliminate the interference of fluoride in the estimation of Zr. Xylenol orange in HCl medium is used as a complexing reagent. Linearity in the datum acquired from absorbance at 551 nm (λmax) is achieved over the concentration range 0.25-4.5 µg mL-1 of Zr with a molar absorptivity of 35030 L·mol-1·cm-1 and Sandell's sensitivity of 0.003 µg·cm-2. Zr is quantified in the variety of U-Zr alloys and various water samples using spectrophotometric detection with a classical univariate calibration with suppressing of fluoride interference through AlCl3. Results from this novel analytical method herein developed for the first time are compared with those achieved from gravimetric analysis.Adsorption of methanol and ethanol on the clean Pt (111) surface was studied at temperatures between 80 and 130 K using polarization-modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS). It was shown that adsorption of methanol at 80 K leads to the formation of amorphous solid methanol, and fast crystallization of the amorphous phase occurs upon warming at 100 K. Vapor deposition of methanol at 100 K directly leads to the formation of well-crystallized layers of solid methanol. According to PM-IRRAS, these crystalline layers consist of chains of hydrogen-bonded methanol molecules lying in a plane oriented close to the normal to the platinum surface. Adsorbed methanol is removed completely from platinum after heating to 120 K. Vapor deposition of ethanol at 80 K also leads to the formation of amorphous solid ethanol. However, subsequent warming does not lead to ordering of the adsorption layers, and at 130 K, ethanol is also completely desorbed. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread all over the world. In the process of emergency use authorization, the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the China National Medical Products Administration issued 'Key Points of Technical Review for the Registration of SARS-CoV-2 Antigen/Antibody Detection Reagents' as the guidance of registration of antigen and antibody test reagents for the industry. In this document, clinical evaluation requirements of antigen detection reagents are elaborated. Based on the Key Points document and the authors' review practice, this article explains the evaluation methods and requirements of clinical performance of SARS-CoV-2 antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic tests, then analyzes the application scenarios and intended use of antigen detection reagents.Cricotracheostomy is a useful surgical procedure for opening the airway in cases where conventional tracheotomy is difficult. This is a safe and easy technique involving removal of the anterior portion of the cricoid cartilage. Herein, we report the case of a patient with difficulty in neck extension due to severe kyphosis, who underwent cricotracheostomy. A 65-year-old woman developed dyspnea and was transported to our hospital. SpO2 was 60% (room air) and endotracheal intubation was performed. She was managed on ventilator. However, weaning off the ventilator was difficult, and endotracheal intubation was prolonged. Subsequently, the patient was referred to us for a tracheostomy. The patient was unable to maintain the supine position due to severe kyphosis, and computed tomography revealed that the brachiocephalic artery was running just below the thyroid gland. Therefore, conventional tracheostomy was difficult to perform, and we performed cricotracheostomy instead. After the cricotracheostomy, there were no tracheal problems, such as tracheal stenosis and stomal hemorrhage. Cricotracheostomy can be performed in cases where multiple anatomical difficulties may be faced in the tracheostomy site, as in this case. Furthermore, cricotracheostomy is beneficial for long-term airway management because it causes fewer complications compared to conventional tracheotomy.Pressure ulcer (PU) is one of the most common occurrences in bedridden subjects. Despite the standard of care, there is a huge challenge in monitoring immobile subjects in all the bodily pressure points. This increases the chance of onset of PU which in turn increases the expenditure for treating and managing the PU. Hence, we made a study on the biological and physiological factors that are responsible for the formation of PU and also on various techniques used for diagnosis. Thus, we have summarised the efficacy of various advanced diagnostic procedures with their limitations. Though there are advanced imaging techniques, risk assessment tools based on the visual inspection are widely followed in hospitals. Based on our observation, we here have identified three major areas; one being the development of mathematical modeling, the second is towards the development of non-invasive devices and finally to automate cot facility. We have also provided possible suggestions as to solutions that could be useful to researchers and for society. Thus, this review covers the present difficulty faced by bedridden subjects and respective care-takers along with the knowledge gap and a few suggestions as to future scope.
Enteric infections cause significant deaths, and global projection studies suggest that mortality from enteric infections will increase in the future with warmer climate. However, a major limitation of these projection studies is the use of risk estimates derived from nonmortality data to project excess enteric infection mortality associated with temperature because of the lack of studies that used actual deaths.
We quantified the associations of daily temperature with both mortality and hospital admissions due to enteric infections in the Philippines. These associations were applied to projections under various climate and population change scenarios.
We modeled nonlinear temperature associations of mortality and hospital admissions due to enteric infections in 17 administrative regions of the Philippines using a two-stage time-series approach. First, we quantified nonlinear temperature associations of enteric infections by fitting generalized linear models with distributed lag nonlinear models. Secondpopulation growth may lead to a greater increase in temperature-related excess deaths than hospital admissions due to enteric infections. Our results highlight the need to strengthen existing primary health care interventions for diarrhea and support health adaptation policies to help reduce future enteric infections. https//doi.org/10.1289/EHP9324.HNF1A-AS1 is a cancer-related lncRNA. Elevated expression of HNF1A-AS1 has been observed in various malignancies including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the role of HNF1A-AS1 in ESCC has not been fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of HNF1A-AS1 in ESCC. Expression of HNF1A-AS1, miRNA (miR)-298, and transcription factor 4 (TCF4) was detected using qRT-PCR. The interactions between HNF1A-AS1 and miR-298 or miR-298 and TCF4 were evaluated. Short hairpin RNAs (shRNAs) were used to knock down HNF1A-AS1 (sh-HNF1A-AS1). The EMT and stemness of ESCC cells were detected. HNF1A-AS1 was overexpressed in ESCC tumor tissues and cells. miR-298 was validated as a direct target of HNF1A-AS1. sh-HNF1A-AS1 significantly inhibited EMT and stemness of ESCC cells. The high expression of miR-298 significantly inhibited the expression of TCF4, and further inhibited the expression of N-cadherin and stemness-related genes. Animal experiments showed that sh-HNF1A-AS1 significantly inhibited tumor growth and increased the level of miR-298 in tissues. In conclusion, knockdown of HNF1A-AS1 could inhibit EMT and stemness by regulating the miR-298/TCF4 axis.Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is the most common malignant tumor in the head and neck cancer, with a poor prognosis. As we know, microRNAs (miRNAs) play a vital role in the initiation and development of various cancers including LSCC. In this study, we explored the role of miR-125b-5p and its downstream regulatory pathway in LSCC. Our data demonstrated that miR-125b-5p expression was significantly downregulated in LSCC tissues and cells. LSCC patients with high expression of miR-125b-5p had higher overall survival (OS) and were closely related to the clinical stage. Overexpression of miR-125b-5p impaired viability and glycolysis, and facilitated apoptosis in LSCC cells. And miR-125b-5p silencing had the opposite effects. Bioinformatics website predicted that MAP3K9 was one of the potential target genes of miR-125b-5p. Cell experiments demonstrated that miR-125b-5p repressed the MAP3K9 levels by directly targeting MAP3K9. Additionally, the negative correlation between miR-125b-5p and MAP3K9 was validated in LSCC tissues. Overexpression of MAP3K9 attenuated the inhibitory effect of miR-125b-5p on viability and glycolysis, and the pro-apoptosis effect of miR-125b-5p in LSCC cells. Furthermore, in vivo experiments demonstrated that tumor growth was hampered in AMC-HN-8 cells transfected with miR-125b-5p mimic. In contrast, the knockdown of miR-125b-5p reduced tumor growth in vivo. Meanwhile, the in vivo immunohistochemistry and TUNEL assays suggested that the miR-125b-5p overexpression restrained cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis via targeting MAP3K9. Overall, these above results suggested that miR-125b-5p suppressed proliferation and glycolysis, and promoted apoptosis by directly targeting MAP3K9 in LSCC cells. Thus, miR-125b-5p acts as a tumor suppressor miRNA and the miR-125b-5p/MAP3K9 axis may be a promising candidate for LSCC treatment.
