Protection Examination Writeup on the Outfitting Guidance Robot.
The purpose of this study was to determine the course of the main septum (MS) in the sphenoid sinuses in the adult population. Materials and Methods 296 patients (147 females, 149 males), who did not present any pathology in the paranasal sinuses, were included in this retrospective analysis of the computed tomography (CT) scans. Spiral CT scanner (Siemens Somatom Sensation 16) was used in order to glean the images of the paranasal sinuses, using standard procedure, in the option Siemens CARE Dose 4D, without using any contrast medium. Secondary reconstructions of the sagittal and frontal planes were obtained using multi- plans reconstruction (MPR) tool after obtaining transverse planes in the first instance. R e s u l t s The course of the MS changed the most often from the anterior to the posterior part of the sphenoid sinuses. Such situation took place in 83.78% of the patients, in 32.43% of whom a clear shift to the lateral side was noticed only in the posterior part of the MS in 18.24% of the patients tourring during a surgery in the paranasal sinuses, it is prudent to have a CT scan done in all the patients beforehand, due to the high prevalence of the anatomical variations in the sinuses.Temporomandibular disorders includes abnormalities of the masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joints and the surrounding structures. The aim of the study was to carry out a retrospective assessment of the frequency of the pain form of TMD based on the analysis of medical records of patients treated at the Prosthodontic Department at Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
The study included the results of a medical history and a clinical examination of patients, who came for consultation at the Prosthodontics Department at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, due to pain of the masticatory muscles or/and TMJ and painless symptom of TMD like limitation of the jaw movements and joints' sounds. Out of all the analyzed results of the examination of treated patients, a group of patients with a painless and painful TMD was selected.

The study involved the results of a detailed specialized functional examination of 334 patients (210 women and 124 men), ranging in age from 41 to 68 years. Analysis of the results of clinical examinations conducted in all patients revealed that 161 had the painless form - SG (99 women and 62 men) and 173 patients had the pain form of the TMD - CG (111 women and 62 men). In the CG 104 patients reported mostly pain in the masticatory muscles, while the remaining (69 patients) had a history of pain in one or simultaneously two TMJs.

The analysis of the patients forms allows to conclude that more than half of patients seeking help are patients with the painful form of the TMD and these abnormalities occur more frequently in women than in men.

Medical universities use the PBL method more widely in the course of teaching future physicians, in the CMUJ classes using the PBL method were introduced in the third year of studies, as a part of the Introduction to Clinical Sciences. M e t h o d s At the end of course, the students voluntarily filled in a questionnaire (17 questions concerning various aspects of the course). A total of 105 questionnaires were analyzed. Statistica 12.0 program was used for this analysis. R e s u l t s 95.5% of respondents positively perceived the way of conducting classes in the form of PBL and considered them to be in line with their expectations (81%). 80% of respondents confirmed the usefulness of classes in acquiring knowledge and integrity with pre-clinical subjects. Divided opinions were expressed by the respondents as to the benefits and satisfaction from independent presentation and teaching of other students, 34.3% rather emphasized the benefits, while 28.6% expressed a negative opinion. C o n c l u s i o n s The study confirmed usefulness of classes conducted using the PBL method, both in terms of deepening the knowledge and repetition of already gained knowledge, as well as beneficial reception of classes by students. The course may be modified in the future by increasing the number of cases. The term peritonitis is relatively new in medical language, however some of its symptoms were observed and noted even in antiquity. The proper recognition of peritonitis as a distinct pathological entity was made possible when progress in the clinical and experimental sciences give birth to the methodology needed for the investigation of the etiology and mechanism of peritoneal inflammation. Research concerning this clinical topic began to yield significant results in the second half of 19th century. This paper aims to give some insight into this pioneering period of scientific investigation focused on the etiology and pathology of peritonitis. From the work of von Recklinghausen in the 1860s, through the later research of Wegner and Gravitz, the next major step in this field was made by the Polish experimental pathologist and pathophysiologist Karol Klecki.Macular corneal dystrophy (MCD) is ascribed to mutations in the carbohydrate sulfotransferase (CHST6) gene affecting keratan sulfate (KS) hydrophilicity and causing non-sulfated KS to precipitate in keratocytes and the corneal stroma. We investigated roles for inflammatory responses in MCD pathogenesis by examining the lysosomal-autophagy pathway and activation of pyroptosis in MCD keratocytes. Normal and lesioned keratocytes were obtained from MCD patients undergoing corneal transplantation. The keratocytes were subjected to gene sequencing, RT-PCR, western blotting, transmission electron microscopy, histological staining, induction and inhibition assays of autophagy and pyroptosis, CCK-8 and LysoTracker Green DND-26 labeling, and flow cytometry. A novel homozygous MCD mutation was identified in a family from Northeast China; the mutation was distinguished by cytoplasmic vacuolation, cell membrane disruption, electron dense deposits, and deposition of a band of Periodic acid-Schiff and Alcian blue-positive material in the keratocytes and stroma layer. KS protein levels were decreased, expression of p62 and LC3-II proteins was enhanced, cathepsin D expression was declined and the LysoTracker Green DND-26 signal was dramatically reduced in MCD keratocytes. Bafilomycin-A1 treatment significantly increased caspase-1 and Pro-IL-1β expression in normal and MCD keratocytes. Nod-like receptors pyrins-3 (NLRP3), caspase-1, Pro-IL-1β, and IL-1β levels were pronouncedly elevated in cells exposed to H2O2. Ac-YVAD-CMK treatment reversed this expression in normal and MCD keratocytes. Suppression of the autophagic degradation of non-sulfated KS by impaired autophagic flux in MCD keratocytes triggers pyroptosis. Amelioration of impaired autophagy and restraint of pyroptosis may, therefore, have therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of MCD.BACKGROUND Preeclampsia increases maternal and perinatal mortality and is affected by calcium and magnesium levels. Reduced extracellular levels of calcium and magnesium constitute the pathogenesis of eclampsia. A reduction in the calcium-magnesium ratio may aid in the detection and prevention of preeclampsia. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design, including patients with and without preeclampsia (inpatient and outpatient). A total of 246 patients were included in this research; 138 patients had preeclampsia and 108 patients did not. All examinations of magnesium and calcium levels at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital Clinical Pathology laboratory were conducted using an ion selective electrode modified with methylthymol blue complexometric titration. RESULTS Patients with preeclampsia had significantly higher average serum magnesium and calcium levels than did patients without preeclampsia (2.85 vs 2.09, P=0.0001; 4.45 vs 4.85, P=0.025, respectively). Patients with preeclampsia demonstrated significantly lower serum calcium-magnesium ratios than did patients without preeclampsia (1.98 vs 2.60, P=0.0001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis on the serum calcium-magnesium ratio showed an area under the curve of 68.0% (P=0.0001), with a cutoff value of 2.36 (sensitivity 64.8%, specificity 62.3%), indicating that patients with serum calcium-magnesium ratios of less then 2.36 were predicted to have a risk of preeclampsia. CONCLUSIONS Patients with preeclampsia had significantly lower serum calcium-magnesium ratios than did patients without preeclampsia; therefore, a low calcium-magnesium ratio could be a risk factor for preeclampsia.BACKGROUND Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, children who were infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 (SARS-CoV-2) with vascular inflammation were described as having a vasculitis similar to Kawasaki's disease. There are now consensus clinical guidelines that have described the presentation and diagnosis of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. This report aims to describe a case of MIS-C in an 11-year-old Saudi Arabian girl who presented with coronary artery aneurysm and cardiac involvement. selleck CASE REPORT We describe an 11-year-old Saudi girl who was asymptomatic for 3 weeks after contracting SARS-CoV-2. Three weeks after suffering a mild flulike illness, she developed a high fever, cough, and severe clinical deterioration within 12 h of admission, including shock, rash, pleural effusion, high inflammatory markers, and a coronary aneurysm. As per current practice, the diagnosis was confirmed as multisystem inflammatory syndrome based on a SARS-CoV-2 test with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from 2 nasopharyngeal aspirates. Her condition was successfully treated with antibiotics, inotropes, IVIG, aspirin, and Tocilizumab, in addition to high-flow oxygen therapy. Eventually, she was able to return home after fully recovering. CONCLUSIONS The findings in this report suggest that children with MIS-C due to SARS-CoV-2 infection can have a good prognosis, even when they suffer from coronary artery and cardiac involvement. The increasing number of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants that affect children supports the importance of RT-PCR for the COVID-19 diagnostic test for children with multisystem or cardiovascular inflammation, which may guide the most appropriate clinical management of the variants of MIS-C.
This study aimed to report on in vitro susceptibility patterns among corneal isolates collected in the Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring in Ocular micRoorganisms (ARMOR) study.

Each year, from 2009 to 2019, Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Haemophilus influenzae isolates cultured from patients with ocular infections at participating ARMOR sites were submitted to a central laboratory for species confirmation and antibiotic susceptibility testing. In this analysis of corneal isolates, odds ratios for concurrent resistance were based on sample proportions, one-way ANOVA was used to evaluate resistance by patient age, and Cochran-Armitage tests were used to examine changes in antibiotic resistance over time.

A total of 1499 corneal isolates were collected from 61 sites over the 11-year period. Overall, 34.5% (148 of 429) of S. aureus and 41.9% (220 of 525) of CoNS isolates were methicillin resistant and had higher odds ratios for concurrent resistance to azithromycin (17.
