We used latent class analysis to derive the network typology and multinomial logistic regression to examine differences in network type membership by sociodemographic characteristics, health characteristics, and birth cohort.

Older adults were classified into 5 distinct social network types (i)
; (ii)
; (iii)
; (iv)
; and (v)
. Membership in these network types varied by age, gender, marital status, race/ethnicity, education, mental health, and birth cohort.

Network typologies can elucidate the varied interpersonal environments of older adults and identify individuals who lack social connectedness on multiple network dimensions and are therefore at a higher risk of social isolation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed a significant psychological burden on many across society especially students studying medical sciences. This study intended to investigate the one-year changes in the prevalence and correlates of depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic among medical science students.

A cross-sectional study in Shahroud, Iran administering a convenience sampling method (January to February 2021). Online self-reported questionnaires included Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Paloutzian-Ellison Spiritual Well-Being Questionnaire, Diener's Satisfaction with Life Scale and the University Student Depression Inventory. Data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (Independent
-test and Multiple Regression Analysis).

A total of 306 medical science students were investigated in this study. The mean scores 1 year after the outbreak of COVID-19 were for depression (81.25 ± 26.04), spiritual well-being (80.98 ± 18.06), self-esteem (26.89 ± 2.20), and life satisfaction (19.68 ± stem has been significantly affected, with the addition to the COVID-19 pandemic imposing a psychological burden such as depression, exacerbating this within medical science students compared to a year ago. Spiritual well-being and life satisfaction as positive psychology constructs were recognized as protective factors against depression during the pandemic. Spiritual and social support should be integrated in psychological interventions within university settings for medical science students.
One of the known risk factors for hypertensive crisis (HTN-C) is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which their adverse effects can lead to end-organ damage such as gastrointestinal and cardiovascular issues.

Data on the correlation between NSAIDs and HTN-C are limited. In this study, we determined the prevalence of NSAID use among patients with HTN-C.

This cross-sectional study was conducted among patients primarily diagnosed with HTN-C referred to Alzahra hospital, Shiraz, Iran from April 2015 to April 2020. Demographic data, as well as information regarding the past medical and drug history and laboratory findings, were gathered retrospectively. The history of NSAID use was also asked specifically. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS and the
-value less than .05 was considered significant.

A total of 257 patients with a mean age of 59.73 were enrolled in the study. Among them 62.6% were female and 137 patients (53.33%) used NSAIDs. Of all the patients 197 (76.7%), 71 (27.6%), and 46 (17.9%) suffered from concomitant hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), and ischemic heart disease (IHD) respectively. A significant relation was found between having each of the comorbidities and NSAIDs use among HTN-C patients (
-value <.0001). NSAIDs use was also significantly higher in older age (
-value <.0001) and female gender (
-value <.02). A high rate of NSAID use was seen among HTN-C patients with a positive significant correlation to concomitant diseases, older age, and female gender.

The Results of our study indicate that NSAIDs are frequently used among those with HTN-C and considering the adverse effects of these medication our results further highlight the importance of monitoring and limiting NSAID use.

Cisplatin (CDDP) is used as the first line of treatment for some tumors, but its use may be restricted due to its nephrotoxicity. Carboplatin (CARBO) and oxaliplatin (OXA) are less nephrotoxic alternatives to CDDP. This study has the objective to determine the incidence of acute kidney disease after chemotherapy with CDDP, CARBO, or OXA.

A clinical study of a retrospective cohort of patients who underwent treatment with CDDP, CARBO, or OXA from January-December 2016. Acute kidney Disease (AKD) was defined as elevated serum creatinine (sCR) levels before and up to 3 months after chemotherapy. Morbidities, type of tumor, and treatment data were recorded.

A total of 212 patients aged 55.5 ± 14.0 years were evaluated. Among the comorbidities, 30% had arterial hypertension (AH) and 11% had diabetes, and 18% were treated with CDDP, 41% with CARBO, and 41% with OXA. click here There was no difference in sCR levels before and after chemotherapy regardless of the chemotherapy used. The prevalence of eGFRs <60 mL/min after chemotherapy was higher in patients with AH and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The incidence of post-chemotherapy AKD was 7.0% (n=13) and the mortality rate was 38.2%. Survival was lower in patients with AKD (
=.012).

There was a low incidence of AKD among the patients regardless of the chemotherapy used, but the patients with AKD had shorter survival. In addition, the reduction in eGFR after chemotherapy was greater in patients with AH and CVD.

Food security is a complex and multidimensional issue that has been recognized as a serious public health problem all over the world for the past two decades. The present study was designed and conducted to determine the prevalence of food insecurity among college students at the Kashan University of Medical Sciences and some related factors including socioeconomic and mental health determinants.

The present study is a cross-sectional study conducted on 358 students who were currently studying at the Kashan University of Medical Sciences. The students who were pregnant or had a special diet to follow were excluded. Samples were selected by the systematic method. Food security was measured using United States Department of Agriculture. Food Frequency Questionnaire, 21-items Depression Anxiety Stress Scales, and Socioeconomic Questionnaire were used to investigate the nutrients intake, depression/anxiety status, and socioeconomic factors, respectively. Chi-square, independent
-test, and logistic regressioc factors and gender have a significant impact on students' food security. Moreover, the association of food insecurity with mental disorders such as depression was demonstrated in the current study. However, we could not detect any significant association between daily energy intake and macronutrients which indicates the requirement for more detailed studies.
To evaluate invasive hemodynamics in assessing MC therapy success as well as evaluate its effectiveness as a predictor of functional outcomes.

Mitral regurgitation grade is a poor predictor of functional outcomes after a MitraClip. There is a paucity of data on invasive hemodynamics as a predictor of outcomes.

Sixty-nine patients underwent MC between 2015 and 2018 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and were retrospectively analyzed. Invasive hemodynamics were performed before and after device deployment with transesophageal echocardiographic guidance. Statistical analysis was performed using STATA version 16. Student's
test was used for continuous variables and Pearson's chi-squared test for categorical variables. Mann-Whitney test was performed for continuous variables where data were not normally distributed. Logistic and linear regression were used to investigate relationships between variables and outcomes.

A total of 69 patients were included in the study. The mean age was 83 (75-87) years and 38 (55%) were male. Eighty-one percentage had >/= NYHA III symptoms. Eighty-seven percentage had severe MR. Pulmonary capillary wedge pressure was 20 (15-24). Overall, there was significant improvement in left atrial pressure including mean left atrial pressure index, MR, and NYHA class after MC (<.001). There was no significant association between invasive hemodynamics (including left atrial mean pressure index or its reduction rate) and functional outcomes (p=NS). MR grade was also not predictive of functional outcomes.

Left atrial pressure may not be a significant predictor of functional outcomes, and, in isolation, may not be an improvement over MR grade.

Missed appointments are a major health issue in the healthcare systems globally. They directly impact on the use of hospital resources, patient's health, and can lead to patient's dissatisfaction. This study was conducted to assess the reasons for missing a hospital appointment.

A survey was conducted with a randomly selected sample of patients who missed their outpatient appointment in Royal hospital, Sultanate of Oman, from March to April 2021 in six clinics. Patients were interviewed via telephone to answer a structured survey. In addition, a self-administered survey was distributed to medical staff to explore their perspectives.

Two hundred eighty patients and 52 medical staff participated in the study. Frequent patient-reported reasons for missed appointment were transportation difficulties (11.4%), no longer needing (7.5%), or forgetting the appointment (6.8%); staff-reported reasons were transportation (23.8%), no SMS received (16.9%), and forgetting the appointment (15.4%). Frequencies of reasons varied substantially between clinics. Family obligations were the main theme in obstetrics (odds ratio [OR] 9.48; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.66-33.78) and in diabetes clinic (OR 10.55; 95% CI 2.68-38.58), where transportation issue was the main theme in Oncology clinic (OR 4.83; 95% CI 1.11-21.02). The recommendations for improvement were mainly around improving the reminder system, the use of telephone reminders, and developing a flexible appointment scheduling system.

Knowing the reasons for missed appointment from patients and health professionals can help to develop effective interventions. The heterogeneity between clinics in reasons for missed appointment indicates for interventions tailored to clinic and frequent reasons.
