The PLLA/Pearl and PLLA/Pearl/RM-P composite scaffolds can promote adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Moreover, a rabbit model of infected bone defects of the radius was established. PLLA, PLLA/Pearl, and PLLA/Pearl/RM-P scaffolds were implanted into the bone nidus. The therapeutic effect of the three scaffolds on the infected bone defects was evaluated through imaging and microbiological and histological analysis after surgery. Among the three scaffolds, only the PLLA/Pearl/RM-P scaffold had anti-infection and bone defect repair in vivo. 3D printing provides support for personalized scaffold structures, and composite materials ensure that the scaffolds exert anti-infection and bone repair effects. Our study suggests that the PLLA/Pearl/RM-P scaffold is a promising new material in the clinical treatment of infected bone defects. In jet electrodeposition, microscopic nucleation and growth in the early stages of nickel coating are curcial and directly related to the consistency and reliability of the coating structure. We set up a three-electrode device with flow-injection function based on the vertical distribution and further studied the early stages of nanocluster formation corresponding to parallel and vertical distribution states. According to the nucleation diffusion and growth analysis, a coarse-grained molecular dynamics model is established for the first time to reveal the influences of different growth environments on the microscopic nucleation growth of the coating structure. Thus, the ion dynamic diffusion and nucleation kinetic mechanism could be further achieved, these vary under different electrodeposition conditions. In addition, the physical structure of the surface coating can be obtained by element analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. These findings provide a theoretical and experimental basis for the efficient preparation of nickel coatings. With the continuous increase of global plastics production, there is a demand to develop energy efficient processes to transform mixed plastic wastes into new products with enhanced utility - a concept that is often referred to as upcycling. Compatibilization is one of the most promising strategies to upcycle communal waste plastics. In this work, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), both widely used semicrystalline packaging polymers, are used as the target polymer blend. We systematically evaluate and compare three commercial ethylene copolymer based compatibilizers, ELVALOY™ AC 2016 Acrylate Copolymer (EAA), ELVALOY™ PTW Copolymer (PTW), and SURLYN™ 1802 Ionomer (Surlyn). They represent different compatibilization mechanisms. selleckchem Furthermore, this work tackles a challenging question where the compatibilizers are located in the blend. We discover that the location of the compatibilizer molecules can be predicted by comparing the crystallinity change of PET and HDPE in binary and ternary systems. Gaining this knowledge will facilitate root cause analysis of an ineffective compatibilizer and guide the design strategy to upcycle commingled waste plastics.Real-time monitoring of drug release behaviors over extended periods of time is critical in understanding the dynamics of drug progression for personalized chemotherapeutic treatment. In this work, we report a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanotheranostic system encapsulated with photothermal agents (CuS) and therapeutic drug (DOX) to achieve the capabilities of real-time drug release monitoring and combined chemo-photothermal therapy. Meanwhile, folic acid-conjugated polyethylene glycol (FA-PEG) antennas were connected to the MOF through coordination interactions, endowing the MOF with an enhanced active targeting effect toward cancer cells. It is anticipated that such a theranostic agent, simultaneously possessing tumor-targeting, real-time drug monitoring and effective treatment, will potentially enhance the performance in cancer therapy.Eleven undescribed ent-kaurane-type diterpenoid acids, namely noueinsiancins A-K (1-11), together with sixteen related known analogs (12-27) were isolated from Nouelia insignis Franch. The chemical structures and absolute configurations of the new compounds were confirmed by the extensive spectroscopic data, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory assay was applied to estimate the nitric oxide (NO) inhibitory activities of all compounds by using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.7 cells in vitro. The results revealed that 4-7 and 13-17 significantly inhibited NO production at the concentrations of 2.5 μM, 5.0 μM and 10.0 μM. Meanwhile, compounds 6 and 7 were found to down-regulate the protein expression levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in RAW 264.7 cells induced by LPS in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, these findings provided the reference values for exploring the new chemicals with biological activities from this genus. It is reported in the literature that introducing amino groups on the surface improves cellular behaviour due to enhanced wettability and the presence of the positive charge. In this work, electrospun fibers were subjected to aminolysis under various conditions to investigate the impact of reaction parameters on the concentration of free NH2 groups, change of fiber properties, and the response of L929 cells. Three types of electrospun nonwovens obtained from poly(caprolactone) (PCL), poly(l-lactide-co-caprolactone) (PLCL) 70 30 and poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) were investigated. For all polymers, the concentration of NH2 groups increased with the diamine concentration and time of reaction. However, it was observed that PCL fibers require much stronger conditions than PLCL and PLLA fibers to reach the same level of introduced amine groups. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results clearly demonstrate that an aminolysis reaction is not limited to the surface of the material. Gel permeation chromatography results support this conclusion indicating global molecular weight reduction. However, it is possible to reach a compromise between the concentration of introduced amine groups and the change of mechanical properties. For most of the investigated conditions, aminolysis did not significantly change the water contact angle. Despite this, the change of L929 and MG63 cell shape to being more spread confirmed the positive effect of the presence of the amine groups.Nano-metal-filled N-doped carbon materials have been actively verified as promising alternatives for precious-metal catalysts in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, Ni/Fe/Cu-filled N-doped carbon nanohorns (CNHs) are synthesized via a positive pressure assisted arc discharge method using a Ni/Fe/Cu rod charged in an anode hole in a N2 and Ar mixture. We first found that the amount of N atom doping can be controlled by the types of nano-metal particles encapsulated by CNHs. The content of N atoms on CNHs uniquely depended on the initial Ni wires inserted into the anode graphite; increasing the number of Ni wires induced the enrichment of N atoms until 3.56 at%, whereas the content of N atoms for Cu- and Fe-filled CNHs is against the results; loading Cu and Fe nanoparticles decreases the N-doping amount. And the morphologies and N-configurations can be changed by the types of metal nanoparticles. Furthermore, the OER performance of Ni-filled CNHs is much superior to that of Cu- and Fe-filled CNHs, which can be significantly enhanced by the tip opening structure, and the increase in Ni loading amount and the N atom content.Weathering of microplastics made of commodity plastics like polystyrene, polypropylene and polyethylene introduces polar polymer defects as a result of photooxidation and mechanical stress. Thus, hydrophobic microplastic particles gradually become hydrophilic, consisting of polar oligomers with a significant amount of oxygen-bearing functional groups. This turnover continuously changes interactions between microplastics and natural colloidal matter. To be able to develop a better understanding of this complex weathering process, quantification of the corresponding defect proportions is a first and essential step. Using polystyrene, 13C enriched at the α position to 23%, we demonstrate that 13C cross polarisation (CP) NMR spectroscopy allows for probing the typical alcohol, peroxo, keto and carboxyl defects. Even the discrimination between in- and end-chain ketones, carboxylic acids and esters as well as ketal functions was possible. Combined with multiCP excitation, defect proportions could be determined with excellent accuracy down to 0.1%. For materials with 13C in natural abundance, this accounts for a detection limit of roughly 1%. The best trade-off between measurement time and accuracy for the quantification of the defect intensities for multiCP excitation was obtained for CP block lengths shorter than 250 μs and total build-up times longer than 2 ms. Further measurement time reduction is possible by using multiCP excitation to calibrate intensities obtained from series of 13C CP MAS NMR spectra. As photooxidation is an important degradation mechanism for microplastics in the environment, we expect these parameters to be transferable for probing defect proportions of weathered microplastics in general. The advancements in the field of mechanically interlocked molecular systems (MIMs) has concurrently restructured the material chemistry frontiers and provided ample scope to explore new dimensions for applications and diversity creation. Among all these molecular entities, rotaxanes have a special locale and many research groups over the globe have contributed to their current niche in supramolecular chemistry. From refinements for better yielding synthetic strategies to their application oriented designs, this field has come a long way and is well inclined for further developments. In this review, we aim to document the contemporary developments in the synthesis of phenanthroline (phen) based rotaxanes. In addition to providing a comprehensive account of various subtypes of these rotaxanes and their stitching strategies, their applications, wherever discernible, will be duely highlighted. The Covid-19 pandemic has generated a lot of non-degradable biohazardous plastic waste across the globe in the form of disposable surgical and N95 masks, gloves, face shields, syringes, bottles and plastic storage containers. In the present work we address this problem by recycling plastic waste to single system white light emitting carbon dots (CDs) using a pyrolytic method. The synthesized CDs have been embedded into a transparent polymer to form a carbon dot phosphor. This CD phosphor has a broad emission bandwidth of 205 nm and is stable against photo degradation for about a year. A white LED with CRI ∼70 and CIE co-ordinates of (0.25, 0.32) using the fabricated CD phosphor is reported. Further our phosphor is scalable and is environmentally sustainable, and will find wide application in next generation artificial lighting systems.A label-free fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) platform based on cationic conjugated polymers and aptamers for ultrasensitive and specific ractopamine detection was constructed. This method exhibited a wide linear range from 0.05 to 500 μM and a low limit of detection of 47 nM, which make it an attractive assay platform for foodborne doping.
