The CVA guinea pig model was successfully established by use of ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization and cigarette smoke (CS) exposure. The guinea pigs were divided into 6 groups a control group, an OVA model group, an OVA + CS model group, a
treatment group, a BUD treatment group, and a combination (
and BUD) treatment group. The effects of the treatment were determined by measuring lung function (RI/Cydn) and cough symptoms (coughs number/cough latency) as outcome criteria. The levels of inflammatory cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were determined by ELISA. Lung tissues were stained by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). The expressions of GR/total p38 MAPK/p-p38 MAPK were detected by Western blot. The MKP-1 mRNA levels were detected by RT-PCR.
Combination treatment significantly decreased RI/coughs numbers and increased Cydn/cough latency. Significantly, the results indicated that combination treatment decreased injury to pulmonary tissues. Results also revealed that levels of inflammatory d combining BUD and Suhuang treatment showed synergistic interactions in CVA guinea pigs. Our findings showed that this combination therapy might be a promising therapeutic agent for CVA and also clarified its underlying mechanism of action, providing a theoretical basis for clinical combination treatment with Suhuang and BUD in CVA patients.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global public health challenge resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality. AKI on chronic kidney disease (CKD) (AKI on CKD, A on C) accounts for about a third of total AKI. For severe AKI grade 3, renal replacement therapy (RRT) should be implemented in time. However, the lack of recognized drug treatment method for AKI grades 1-2 is a crucial problem in clinic. Chuan Huang Fang (CHF) is a Chinese herbal formulation developed for the treatment of A on C from the Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our previous studies suggested that CHF might effectively protect renal functions of A on C patients. As a widely used antioxidant in clinic, reduced glutathione (RG) is reported to improve the clinical efficacy of high-flux hemodialysis (HFHD) in severe AKI patients recently. To address the crucial problem mentioned above, thus we design a new clinical protocol of CHF combining RG and try to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this protocol in treatinregistered with ChiCTR2100043311 and registered on February 9, 2021.
Yang and Yin are two main concepts responsible for harmonious balance reflecting health conditions based on Chinese medicine theory. Of note, deficiency of either Yang or Yin is associated with disease susceptibility. In this study, we aim to clarify the molecular feature of Yang and Yin deficiency by reanalyzing a transcriptomic data set retrieved from the GEO database using R-based machine learning analyses, which lays a foundation for medical diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of unbalanced Yang or Yin.
Besides conventional methods for target mining, we took the advantage of spatial transcriptomic analysis using R-based machine learning approaches to elucidate molecular profiles of Yin and Yang deficiency by reanalyzing an RNA-Seq data set (GSE87474) in the GEO focusing on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). The add-on functions in R including GEOquery, DESeq2, WGCNA (target identification with a scale-free topological assumption), Scatterplot3d, Tidyverse, and UpsetR were used. For informatiation of Chinese medicine theory. Besides, R-based machine learning approaches adopted in this study might be further applied for investigating the underlying genetic polymorphisms related to Chinese medicine theory.
Our study provides representative gene targets and modules for supporting clinical traits of Yang or Yin deficiency in Chinese medicine theory, which is beneficial for promoting the modernization of Chinese medicine theory. Besides, R-based machine learning approaches adopted in this study might be further applied for investigating the underlying genetic polymorphisms related to Chinese medicine theory.
Azithromycin (AZM) is one of the most common broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, drug resistance is increasing and combination therapy has attracted great attention. AZM is usually combined with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparations with heat-clearing and detoxifying effects, including Kumu injection (KM) made from
(D. Don) Benn.
The present study aimed to investigate synergistic antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of KM plus AZM with the aim of understanding the mechanism of clinical efficacy of combination regimens.
Seven common bacterial clinical isolates and LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells were used for assay of
potency. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined for each drug, followed by synergy testing through the checkerboard method and fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) for quantifying combined antibacterial effects. The rat model of
-induced pneumonia was developed and subjected to various drug treatments, namely, AZM, KM, or AZM plus KM, ic antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects beneficial to the therapeutic potential against bacterial infection. To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on acute lung injury (ALI), a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced ALI mouse model was used in this study. Before receiving intratracheal LPS instillation, mice were given EA at ST36 for 7 days as a long-term treatment or one time as a short-term treatment. Lung histopathological examination, lung injury scores, lung wet/dry (W/D) ratio, and inflammatory cytokines included proinflammation factors such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 and anti-inflammation factors such as IL-4 and IL-10 in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were detected at the end of experiment. The results show that EA pretreatment ameliorated the lung damage and inflammatory response by LPS. In addition, we found that SIRT1 and its deacetylation of NF-κB were promoted after EA pretreatment in lung tissues. Meanwhile, the expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is also enhanced by EA pretreatment. Thus, the present findings suggest that EA could be a potential therapy of ALI.

As a common side effect of radio/chemotherapy, oral mucositis severely affects patients' quality of life. Honey has been recommended for adults with radio/chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (R/CIOM), but its effect for pediatric patients has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to illuminate whether honey is effective in treating pediatric R/CIOM.
Two authors searched electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus to identify relevant studies, published in English. Then, the outcomes data was extracted from eligible studies and pooled in the meta-analysis.
Totally, five studies containing 316 patients were included in our systematic review and meta-analysis. The result indicated that honey intervention significantly reduced the recovery time (MD = -5.10, 95% CI [-9.60, -0.61],
< 0.001,
= 98%, random-effect model) in pediatric patients. Honey also reduced the occurrence of all grades of R/CIOM (RR = 0.19, 95% CI [0.12, 0.30],
< 0.001, I
= 0%, fixed-effect model) and the occurrence of grade III and grade IV R/CIOM (RR = 0.18, 95% CI [0.08, 0.41],
< 0.001, I
= 7%, fixed-effect model), and the sensitivity analysis showed the results were stable and robust.
Therefore, honey could be a competent candidate for the complementary treatment of pediatric R/CIOM.

The objective of our study is to explore the potential active ingredients and activity of Ginseng and Astragalus decoction (GAD) in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion (MPE) by using network pharmacology and molecular docking technologies.
The active ingredients and corresponding targets of Ginseng and Astragalus were extracted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform. The relevant targets of malignant pleural effusion (MPE) were searched in the disease databases. Overlapping targets of Ginseng and Astragalus and the corresponding targets of MPE were obtained to define the effective target of GAD for the treatment of MPE. The STRING database was applied to construct a predicted protein-protein interaction network for intersected targets. The Cytoscape software was used to screen key targets with a therapeutic potential. Using the Metascape database, we performed Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes functional enrichment analysis e molecule and mechanism of action in the clinical application of MPE.Early and automatic detection of colorectal tumors is essential for cancer analysis, and the same is implemented using computer-aided diagnosis (CAD). A computerized tomography (CT) image of the colon is being used to identify colorectal carcinoma. VX-561 molecular weight Digital imaging and communication in medicine (DICOM) is a standard medical imaging format to process and analyze images digitally. Accurate detection of tumor cells in the complex digestive tract is necessary for optimal treatment. The proposed work is divided into two phases. The first phase involves the segmentation, and the second phase is the extraction of the colon lesions with the observed segmentation parameters. A deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) based residual network approach for the colon and polyps' segmentation from the CT images is applied over the 2D CT images. The residual stack block is being added to the hidden layers with short skip nuance, which helps to retain spatial information. ResNet-enabled CNN is employed in the current work to achieve complete boundary segmentation of the colon cancer region.
