This study investigated the completeness, accuracy, quality and clinical outcomes of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) registry - Ankle Arthrodesis pathway.

An observational study using retrospective data derived from the BOFAS registry. Adults aged ≥18 years with a record of undergoing ankle arthrodesis in the UK from 2014 to 31/10/2019 were included. Leelamine (LEE) is a lipophilic diterpene amine phytochemical, which can be naturally extracted from pine's bark trees. It has been extensively studied recently for its promising chemopreventive and anti-cancer effects against various cancers such as that of prostate and breast.

We examined the potential impact of LEE in affecting the activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) and promoting apoptosis in human multiple myeloma (MM) cells.

We evaluated the effect of LEE on STAT3 signaling pathway in MM cells by using Western blot analysis and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Thereafter, apoptosis was evaluated using cell cycle analysis and Annexin V assay.

We noted that LEE could attenuate the phosphorylation of STAT3 and other up-stream signaling molecules such as JAK1, JAK2, and Src activation in U266 and MM.1S cells. It also diminished STAT3 translocation into the nucleus and enhanced the expression of protein-tyrosine phosphatase epsilon (PTPε). Additionally, LEE caused cell cycle arrest and synergistically augmented the apoptotic actions of bortezomib against MM cells.

There is an increasing trend towards deploying reporting radiographers in Danish hospitals who, among various professional groups, interpret and report skeletal radiographs from the emergency department (ED). This study aimed to compare the quality of the reports issued by reporting radiographers to three different groups of medical doctors (MDs) who interpret or report skeletal radiographs at the ED.

Four professional groups (i.e. four reporting radiographers, two radiology trainees, two orthopaedic senior trainees, and two orthopaedic trainees) reported 100 radiographs of the appendicular skeleton. The Consequence of clinical Outcome score (CO-score), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of each group were compared. The relative risk of a false-negative, false-positive or wrong result, the risk of a serious error, as well as the odds ratio of a more severe CO-score for each of the three MD groups, were compared to the reporting radiographers.

There was a significant difference between the groups in reference to the CO-score (P ≤ 0.001), accuracy (P=.003), specificity (P=.022), and in the proportion of serious errors (P ≤ 0.001). Compared to the reporting radiographers, all three groups of MDs showed a significantly higher CO-score and a significantly increased risk of a wrong result. Moreover, two of the MD groups showed a significantly increased risk of a false-positive result and for severe errors.

Based on the CO-score, the relative risk of errors, which could potentially cause malpractice in treatment and patient recall, significantly decreased when the reports were completed by reporting radiographers.

Online MRI guided adaptive radiotherapy (MRIgRT) is resource intensive. To maintain and increase uptake traditional roles and responsibilities may need refining. This novel study aims to provide an in-depth understanding and subsequent impact of the roles required to deliver on-line adaptive MRIgRT by exploring the current skills and knowledge of radiographers.

A purposive sampling approach was used to invite radiographers, clinicians and physicists from centres with experience of MRIgRT to participate. Focus Group Interviews were conducted with two facilitators using a semi-structure interview guide (Appendix 1). Four researchers independently familiarised themselves and coded the data using framework analysis. A consensus thematic framework of ptive Radiotherapy codes and categories was agreed and systematically applied.

A qualitative design was used to gather data. Twenty (20) radiographers were recruited using purposive criterion sampling to share their experiences of mode of identification of suspected child physical abuse. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain deeper insight into their experiences.

Radiographers' suspicion or identification of child physical abuse was based on four (4) constructs pre-radiographic observation; child's physical signs; caregiver secrecy and imaging findings. Newer, plane-wave Doppler imaging offers rapid simultaneous acquisition of B-mode, color and spectral Doppler information across large fields of view, making it a potentially useful method for quantitative estimation of blood flow velocities in the clinic. However, plane-wave imaging can lead to a substantial error in velocity estimation, which is dependent on the lateral location within the image. This is seen in both clinical and experimental plane-wave systems. In the work described in this article, we quantified this velocity error under different geometric and beamforming conditions using numerical simulation and experimental phantoms. We found that the lateral-dependent velocity errors are caused by asymmetrical geometric spectral broadening, and outline a correction algorithm that can mitigate these errors.
