We sought to assess the effect of National Football League (NFL) games played by a regional sports team, the New England Patriots, on emergency department (ED) patient volume.

We conducted a multicenter, retrospective chart review at the following 3 tertiary centers in New England from 2012 to 2019 Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA; Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH; and Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME.

Within the NFL season, we observed a 2.6% overall decrease (-10.4 patients) in average total daily volume across the study sites on Sundays when Patriots games were played compared with Sundays when games were not played (
=0.07; 95% confidence interval [CI], -22.37 to 1.62). We observed a 4.3% reduction (-19.0 patients) in average total daily volume across the study sites on Mondays during which Patriots games were played compared with Mondays without games (
=0.15; 95% CI, -43.51 to 5.47). Subanalyses on the 5-hour period corresponding with each Patriots game showed reductions in mean patient volume per hour. Although our primary and subanalyses showed reductions in patient volume during Patriots games, these results were not statistically significant.

Our data support prior studies that showed a minimal impact of major sporting events on ED patient volume at tertiary centers. These results add to the limited data on this topic and can inform administrators whether staffing adjustments are necessary during similar types of sporting events.

To overcome the limitations of current techniques that typically reconstruct clonal trees using genetically encoded reporters, we report scPECLR, a probabilistic algorithm to endogenously infer lineage trees at a single-cell-division resolution by using 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC). When applied to 8-cell pre-implantation mouse embryos, scPECLR predicts the full lineage tree with greater than 95% accuracy. In addition, we developed scH&G-seq to sequence both 5hmC and genomic DNA from the same cell. Given that genomic DNA sequencing yields information on both copy number variations and single-nucleotide polymorphisms, when combined with scPECLR it enables more accurate lineage reconstruction of larger trees. Finally, we show that scPECLR can also be used to map chromosome strand segregation patterns during cell division, thereby providing a strategy to test the "immortal strand" hypothesis. Thus, scPECLR provides a generalized method to endogenously reconstruct lineage trees at an individual-cell-division resolution. The recent development of neurogenetic tools in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes is beginning to shed light on the neural basis of behaviors that make this species a major vector of human disease. However, we still lack a pan-neuronal expression driver-a key tool that provides genetic access to all neurons. Here, we describe our efforts to fill this gap via CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knock-in of reporters to broadly expressed neural genes and report on the generation of two strains, a Syt1GCaMP6s strain that expresses synaptically localized GCaMP and a brp-T2A-QF2w driver strain that can be used to drive and amplify expression of any effector via the Q binary system. Both manipulations broadly and uniformly label the nervous system with only modest effects on behavior. We expect these strains to facilitate neurobiological research in Ae. aegypti mosquitoes and document both successful and failed manipulations as a roadmap for similar tool development in other non-model species.
Visceral artery injuries are rare but lethal entities that pose significant management challenges in a patient who presents with blunt trauma. There is a paucity of specific guidelines both in the trauma and vascular literature regarding the management of blunt intra-abdominal vascular injuries. The midterm outcomes of two cases of blunt traumatic visceral artery injuries managed successfully with endovascular interventions are presented.

An 18 year old male victim of a motor vehicle accident was found to have infrarenal aortic, coeliac artery (CA), and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) injuries. The second patient was a 15 year old male who presented with traumatic occlusion of the CA after an all terrain vehicle collision. Both patients had other associated abdominal and bony injuries. All vascular injuries were addressed endovascularly, which was followed by repair of other associated injuries. In the first case, a self expanding non-covered nitinol stent was used in the injured but tortuous CA; for repair of the SMA, a covered balloon expandable stent was used. In the second patient, a balloon expandable non-covered stent was used to repair the CA occlusion. In both cases, the 12 month post-operative follow up showed that all stents were patent and the patients were asymptomatic.

Endovascular repair of the mesenteric arteries following traumatic injury can be achieved safely, with good midterm outcomes. More data are needed to define the indications for and long term safety and patency of stents used in traumatic visceral artery injuries.

This study investigated the immunogenicity and impact on nasopharyngeal carriage of a single dose of PCV10 given to 18-month-old Vietnamese children. This information is important for countries considering catch-up vaccination during PCV introduction and in the context of vaccination during humanitarian crises.

Two groups of PCV-naïve children within the Vietnam Pneumococcal Project received PCV10 (n=197) or no PCV (unvaccinated; n=199) at 18 months of age. Blood samples were collected at 18, 19, and 24 months of age, and nasopharyngeal swabs at 18 and 24 months of age. Immunogenicity was assessed by measuring serotype-specific IgG, opsonophagocytosis (OPA) and memory B cells (Bmem). Pneumococci were detected and quantified using real-time PCR and serotyped by microarray.

At 19 months of age, IgG and OPA responses were higher in the PCV10 group compared with the unvaccinated group for all PCV10 serotypes and cross-reactive serotypes 6A and 19A. This was sustained out to 24 months of age, at which point PCV10-type carriage was 60% lower in the PCV10 group than the unvaccinated group. Bmem levels increased between 18 and 24 months of age in the vaccinated group.

We demonstrate strong protective immune responses in vaccinees following a single dose of PCV10 at 18 months of age, and a potential impact on herd protection through a substantial reduction in vaccine-type carriage. A single dose of PCV10 in the second year of life could be considered as part of catch-up campaigns or in humanitarian crises to protect children at high-risk of pneumococcal disease.

We aimed to describe the association between ni-Vanuatu women's experiences of violence perpetrated by their intimate partner (IPV) during pregnancy, and health outcomes, including self-reported general health, antenatal care attendance, psychological distress and suicidal thoughts/behaviours.

A cross-sectional survey of a consecutive cohort of women attending the antenatal clinic at Northern Provincial Hospital, Vanuatu from May to July 2019. Psychological, physical and sexual IPV were measured using the WHO Violence Against Women Instrument. Psychological distress was measured using the 20-item WHO Self-Reporting Questionnaire. Data were collected in confidential individual interviews with a trained local interviewer. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the relationship between IPV and health outcomes while controlling for confounding variables.

192 women contributed data, among whom 188 answered the questions about IPV. Of these, 80 women had experienced any form of IPV during the curonash University provided a student research grant to SMcK. Soroptimist International Gippsland provided a grant to fund small gifts for the participants. Background Most existing prognostic models for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) were derived from cohorts in high-income settings established a decade ago and may not be applicable for contemporary patients, especially for patients in developing settings. The aim of this study was to develop and externally validate a prognostic model for survival in PLWHA initiating ART based on a large population-based cohort in China. Methods We obtained data for patients from the Chinese National Free Antiretroviral Treatment Program database. The derivation cohort consisted of PLWHA treated between February 2004 and December 2019 in a tertiary center in Guangzhou, South China, and validation cohort of patients treated between February 2004 to December 2018 in another tertiary hospital in Shenyang, Northeast China. We included ART-naive patients aged above 16 who initiated a combination ART regimen containing at least three drugs and had at least one follow-up record. We assessed 20 candidate predictors including patient of Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Joint-innovation Program in Healthcare for Special Scientific Research Projects of Guangzhou.
China has the largest disease burden of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and is considered as a major contributor to the global elimination of hepatitis B by 2030. However, the national prevalence of HBV infection among Chinese pregnant women was not reported yet. We evaluated the national and regional prevalence of HBV infection among pregnant women in China between 2015-2020, aiming to provide the latest baseline data.

We assessed the prevalence of HBV infection from data gathered through a nationwide cross-sectional study of Chinese pregnant women. Data were obtained from the National Integrated Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B Programme (iPMTCT Programme) in China, which covered all the 2856 counties from 31 provinces from 2015 to 2020. HBV infection was defined as being tested seropositive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).

A total of 90.87 million pregnant women in mainland China were testing for HBV between 2015 and 2020, with 5.60 million (6.17%, 95%CI 6.16-6.18%) tested positive for HBsAg. From 2015 to 2020, the prevalence of HBV infection among pregnant women declined by 25.44%, from 7.30% in 2015 to 5.44% in 2020 (p for trend < 0.001), with an estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) of -5.27% (95% CI -3.19% to -7.32%). Compared with the prevalence in 2015, reginal disparities in eastern, central, and western China were narrowed. Declines were also observed at provincial level and county level. HBV prevalence declined in most provinces (90.3%, 28/31) and counties (76.96%, 2198/2856) from 2015 to 2020. However, disparities still exist.

HBV prevalence in pregnant women in China was intermediate endemic and declined continuously from 2015 to 2020. The decline has been widespread across regions, but disparities remain. Regions with relatively higher disease burden on HBV infection should receive most attention in achieving the 2030 elimination goals.
