Corrigendum to be able to "Emergency decompression along with leveling involving Initial thoracic spinal cord damage along with sacral bone fracture in a Covid-19 individual: In a situation report" [Int. T. Surg. Eighty one (2021) 105670].
0). Result All rag pickers were men with mean age of 32.56 ± 12.51 years. The mean BLL among ragpickers was 11.6 ± 7.23 μg/dL. High eosinophil count was found (8.27 ± 5.49 %) in 27 cases (54%) having no significant association with BLL. The mean BLL was higher (12.89 μg/dL) in a cohort of workers who pick and recycle electronic waste. Victoza Beta-Thalassemia trait was seen in four cases, all of them had high BLL. No significant association of BLL with the number of years worked by rag picker was found. Similarly, no significant association of BLL with hematological and biochemical parameters was found. Conclusion Rag-pickers working in Kathmandu are at increased risk of lead toxicity. The use of protective gloves, masks, shoes and clothes along with a regular medical examination of this vulnerable group is recommended. Background Zinc is an essential trace element that has an enormous role in regulation of physiological processes whose deviant value leads to malfunction in the body. So, establishing a country specific reference value is needed to serve as a standard for the interpretation of laboratory results during clinical decision making. Objective The objective of this study was to determine the reference value of serum zinc level of adult population in Bangladesh. Materials and methods The overnight fasting blood was collected from 154 apparently healthy individuals aged 18 to 65 years, from a rural community after considering several criteria. Graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry (GF-AAS) method was used for serum zinc analysis. The 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles of zinc level were calculated for the reference value according to the recommendations of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC). Results The estimated reference range of serum zinc level in sample population was 60-120 μg/dL, where the range was 59-125 μg/dL for male and 50-103 μg/dL for female. Significant differences of serum zinc level between male and female (p0.05). Conclusion The estimated reference range for serum zinc level in adult population of Bangladesh can serve as a useful indicator for clinical decision making.Emerging technologies are set to play an important role in our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper explores three prominent initiatives COVID-19 focused datasets (e.g., CORD-19); Artificial intelligence-powered search tools (e.g., WellAI, SciSight); and contact tracing based on mobile communication technology. We believe that increasing awareness of these tools will be important in future research into the disease, COVID-19, and the virus, SARS-CoV-2.The current dominant approach to active ageing policy in the EU and the UK is the productivist approach. Drawing on Weber's concepts of instrumental rationality and value rationality, this article argues that this approach is principally informed by instrumental rationality and thus has the potential to instrumentalize older persons, to become an oppressive ideological narrative, and to ignore the unique developmental meanings in late life. To avoid these pitfalls, the article proposes balancing instrumental rationality with value rationality. The balancing can occur in three dimensions. First, the value of internally oriented activities for late life should be recognized. Second, the value of participatory policy development needs to be upheld. Third, the value of meaning-in-life for the well-being and growth of older adults should be validated.Using SHARE data, this study was based on an earlier analysis that derived social network types among adults aged 65 and over in Europe. The current effort investigated the transitions that occurred across these network types after 4 years (N = 13,767). Four general network transition patterns were identified according to network type (close-family networks and other networks) and whether a network transition occurred. The associations between network type, network transitions and well-being (depression and life satisfaction) were examined. We regressed depressive symptoms and a life satisfaction measure on the network transition patterns, controlling for socio-demographic background, health and country. The results revealed that a majority of older Europeans experienced a range of network transition, while close-family-based networks tended to prevail over time. Moreover, respondents who remained in or transitioned to close-family networks had fewer depressive symptoms and better life satisfaction than those in other network types. The study, thus, underscores the varied effects of network types and network changes on emotional well-being in late life. It also demonstrates that beneficial changes can be made in one's social network in old age, especially with regard to greater family closeness. The present study developed and tested a comprehensive multivariate model designed to assess the relative importance of various factors found or proposed in previous research to be associated with engagement in volunteering among 799 fully retired Australian older adults (62% female; mean age = 71.92 years (SD = 6.69)). Engagement in volunteering in the 12 months preceding the study and a range of sociodemographic, psychological, physical, social, and attitudinal variables were measured. Respondents' perceived personal responsibility to volunteer was found to be especially important in the tested model. This variable was directly associated with engagement in volunteering and acted as an important mediator between the following variables and volunteering engagement personal growth, social connectedness, religious attendance, self-rated health, and depression. Efforts to increase volunteering engagement among older adults may therefore need to target perceptions of their responsibility to volunteer. Especially important focus areas for future strategies may include increasing social connectedness, facilitating personal growth, and improving self-rated health. This study is aimed at exploring to what extent staff perceive older residents in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) as still having sexual needs, and how they think care in relation to sexual issues could be improved. The sample was self-selected and comprised 2115 staff members (including managers, technical and care assistants) employed at 152 Spanish LTCFs. Data were collected in the second half of 2016. Participants were asked to estimate the proportion of older residents who had sexual needs in their institution and, by means of open-ended questions, they were also asked about how they satisfied such needs and how to improve care in relation to sexual issues. Responses to the open-ended questions were analysed using content analysis. Differences were assessed according to participants' work position. Results showed that most participants did not see sexual needs as being present in many (or even any) older people living in LTCFs. Masturbation was the most common way staff thought residents' sexual needs were being satisfied.
