Adsorption isotherm studies showed that the increase in temperature negatively affected the herbicide adsorption, obtaining a maximum capacity of 246.72 mg g-1, by the Langmuir isotherm at 298 K. The remarkable adsorption efficiency presented by the adsorbent can be associated with the presence of new functional groups on the adsorbent surface generated after the acid treatment. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed the exothermic nature of the adsorptive system. In the treatment of synthetic wastewater consisting of a mixture of herbicides and salts, a high removal efficiency (72%) of herbicides was obtained. Therefore, the development of an adsorbent derived from peanut (Arachis hypogaea) skin treated with sulfuric acid is an excellent alternative, generating remarkable removal results towards 2,4-D herbicide.
Based on the recent data of the DA VINCI study, it is clear that, besides utilization of statins, there is a need to increase non-statin lipid lowering approaches to reduce the cardiovascular burden in patients at highest risk.

PsGH3 modeled structure constructed using Phyre2 displayed multidomain architecture comprising an N-terminal (β/α)8-fold domain followed by (α/β)6-sandwich domain, PA14 domain, and a C-terminal domain resembling an immunoglobulin fold. Ramachandran plot displayed 99.3% of amino acids in the allowed region and 0.7% residues in the disallowed region. Multiple sequence alignment (MSA) and structure superposition of PsGH3 with other homologues from GH3 family revealed the conserved residues, Asp274 and Glu624 present in loops LA and LB, respectively originating from N-terminal domain act as catalytic residues. The volume and area calculated for PsGH3 displayed a deep active-site conformation comparable with its homologues, β-1,4-glucosidases (GH3) of Kluyveromyces marxianus and Streptomyces venezuelae. Molecular dynamic (MD) simulation of PsGH3 structure for 80 ns suggested stable and compact structure. Molecular docking studies revealed deeper active site conformation of PsGH3 that could house larger cellooligosaccharides up to 7° of polymerization (DP7). The amino acid residues, Ala86, Leu88, Cys275, Pro483, Phe493, Asn417, Asn491, Pro492, and Leu495 created a binding pocket near the catalytic cleft, crucial for ligand binding. MD simulation of PsGH3 in the presence of cellooligosaccharides, viz., cellobiose and celloheptaose showed stability in terms of RMSD, Rg, and SASA values till 80 ns. The calculation of average number of hydrogen bond (H-bond), interaction energy, and binding free energy confirmed the stronger binding affinity of the larger cellooligosaccharides such as celloheptaose in the binding cavity of PsGH3.
Healing outcome after Achilles Tendon Rupture (ATR) is variable and unsatisfactory. Many ATR patients still exhibit pain, functional deficits and limitations in walking one-year post-surgery. The present study was designed to investigate the association between the expression of healing biomarkers and patient outcome after ATR.

Tendon biopsies were collected from 25 ATR patients during surgery. At 1-year post surgery, all patients completed questionnaires; Achilles tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS) and Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS), and were tested for functional outcomes by heel-rise test. In biopsies, FGF, COL III, FN, COL I and MMP-9 mRNA levels were assessed by quantitative RT-PCR while protein expression was studied by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Our analysis confirmed the presence of FGF, COL III, FN, COL I and MMP-9 at mRNA and protein levels in tendon biopsies. FGF gene expression associated positively with improved total ATRS and better functional outcomes. Additionally, FGF mRNA levels were associated with less pain, less running limitations and less loss in physical activity. In addition, higher COL III mRNA expression was associated with more tendon strength.

Our findings indicate that FGF gene expression is associated with improved patient-reported outcome. FGF expression in surgical biopsies could potentially be used to assist the prognostic evaluation of patient outcome and may be used as a predictor for healing. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the role of FGF in Achilles tendon healing.

Little is known about trends in statin use in United States (US) nursing homes.

The aim of this study was to describe national trends in statin use in nursing homes and evaluate the impact of the introduction of generic statins, safety warnings, and guideline recommendations on statin use.

This study employed a repeated cross-sectional prevalence design to evaluate monthly statin use in long-stay US nursing home residents enrolled in Medicare fee-for-service using the Minimum Data Set 3.0 and Medicare Part D claims between April 2011 and December 2016. Stratified by age (65-75years, ≥76years), analyses estimated trends and level changes with 95% confidence intervals (CI) following statin-related events (the availability of generic statins, American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guideline updates, and US FDA safety warnings) through segmented regression models corrected for autocorrelation.

Statin use increased from April 2011 to December 2016 (65-75 years 38.6-43.3%; ≥76 years 26.5%ensity statins (65-75 years β=0.11, 95% CI 0.02-0.21; ≥76 years β=0.05, 95% CI 0.01-0.09).

Overall, statin use in US nursing homes increased from 2011 to 2016. Guidelines and statin-related events appeared to impact use in the nursing home setting. As such, statin guidelines and messaging should provide special consideration for nursing home populations, who may have more risk than benefit from statin pharmacotherapy.

The process of removal of methyl groups from DNA remained unelucidated until the discovery of ten-eleven translocation (TET) proteins which are now considered "methylation editors." TET proteins are a family of Fe(II) and alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent 5-methyl cytosine dioxygenases-they convert 5-methyl cytosine to 5-hydroxymethyl cytosine, and to further oxidized derivatives. In humans, there are three TET paralogs with tissue-specific expression, namely TET1, TET2, and TET3. Among the TETs, TET2 is highly expressed in hematopoietic stem cells where it plays a pleiotropic role. The paralogs also differ in their structure and DNA binding. TET2 lacks the CXXC domain which mediates DNA binding in the other paralogs; thus, TET2 requires interactions with other proteins containing DNA-binding domains for effectively binding to DNA to bring about the catalysis. In addition to its role as methylation editor of DNA, TET2 also serves as methylation editor of RNA. Thus, TET2 is involved in epigenetics as well as epitranscriptomics. TET2 mutations have been found in various malignant hematological disorders like acute myeloid leukemia, and non-malignant hematological disorders like myelodysplastic syndromes. Increasing evidence shows that TET2 plays an important role in the non-hematopoietic system as well. Hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, prostate cancer, and melanoma are some non-hematological malignancies in which a role of TET2 has been implicated. Loss of TET2 is also associated with atherosclerotic vascular lesions and endometriosis. The current review elaborates on the role of structure, catalysis, physiological functions, pathological alterations, and methods to study TET2, with specific emphasis on epigenomics and epitranscriptomics.The chromosomal locations of a new class of Revolver transposon-like elements were analyzed by using FISH method on the metaphase chromosome in somatic cell division of the rye cultivar Petkus. First, the Revolver standard element probe λ2 was weakly hybridized throughout the rye chromosome, and comparatively large interstitial signals spotted with a dot shape were detected together with several telomeric regions. The dot shape interstitial signal was stably detected at one site on Chromosome (Chr) 1R (middle part of the interstitial region of the short arm), three sites on Chr 2R (distal part of the interstitial region and adjacent to the centromere on the short arm, middle part of the interstitial region of the long arm), and two sites on Chr 5R (middle part of the interstitial region and adjacent to the centromere on the long arm). The Revolver λ2 probe was effective for identification of 1R, 2R, and 5R chromosomes. On the other hand, Revolver nonautonomous element-specific L626-BARE-100 probe was strongly distributed throughout the rye chromosomes, and considerable numbers and diverse lengths of transcripts were detected by RT-PCR. Although the standard elements were found in localized clusters, the nonautonomous elements tended to be dispersed throughout the genome. Clustered nature of Revolver is a significantly rare case in genomics.
