Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and multifactorial disease with unknown etiology and a decisive cure.
(sage) which has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and ulcer healing properties can be useful for the treatment of IBD. Therefore, the effect of
ethanolic extract (SOEE) and methanolic partition (SOMP) was investigated on acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis.

Male Wistar rats (180-220 g) were used. SOEE (30, 60, and 120 mg/kg) and SOMP (50, 100, and 150 mg/kg) were prepared through maceration method. Prepared extracts, dexamethasone (1 mg/kg, i.p.), and mesalamine (100 mg/kg) as reference drugs and normal saline as control were administered by gavage, 2 h before colitis induction and preserved for four further days to animals. The colon tissues were examined for macroscopic and pathologic parameters and myeloperoxidase (MPO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels.

SOEE (60 and 120 mg/kg) and SOMP at all doses alleviated colitis severity and indices both in macroscopic and microscopic views. MDA and MPO activities were also significantly declined in the extracts-treated groups compared to the controls. The lowest dose of SOEE couldn't meaningfully reduce any of the parameters compared to the control group.

Both extracts of
exerted anti-colitis effects in rats, though methanolic partition was more effective, especially at the highest dose. It seems S. officinalis could exert protection against oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators in colitis tissue. More experimental and clinical studies are required to explore the exact mechanisms and active ingredients which are involved.

The lack of a new effective treatment for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an unresolved problem. Due to the new identification of delta-like ligand 3 (DLL3) and its high expression in SCLC patients, the use of DLL3 in target therapy can be effective. The use of bacterial toxins belonging to the ADP-ribosyl transferase toxins family and human enzymes to remove cancerous cells has been effective in the structure of immunotoxins. In this study, single-chain fragment variable of rovalpituzumab antibody fused to granzyme B (Rova-GrB) and PltA of typhoid toxin (Rova-Typh) as immunotoxins were designed, and bioinformatics analysis was done.

analysis including the physicochemical properties, evaluation of the secondary and tertiary structure, refinement and validation of 3D models, and docking were performed. Immunotoxin genes were cloned and expressed in the
BL21 (DE3) host, purified, subsequently confirmed by western blotting and their secondary structure was evaluated by the circular dichroism method.

The bioinformatics analysis showed that Rova-GrB and Rova-Typh had hydrophilic properties, their codon optimization parameters were standard, validation parameters were improved after immunotoxin refinement, and docking analysis showed that the binding domain of immunotoxins could bind the N-terminal region of DLL3. immunotoxins had high expression and after purification under denaturing condition by Ni-NTA column, the immunotoxins were dialyzed against PBS buffer.

The immunotoxins had the right structure and can be produced in a prokaryotic host. The recombinant immunotoxins against DLL3 can be promising therapeutic agents for SCLC cancer.

We aimed to report a case of acute mesenteric ischemia in a newborn with COVID-19.

A 1-day-old male baby, with a birth weight of 2050g, delivered by spontaneous vaginal delivery at 34weeks of gestation from a 32-year-old COVID-19 infected mother in her third pregnancy, was taken to the newborn intensive care unit. On physical examination, the patient was alive and active. The abdomen was soft. Laboratory values of the patient were within the normal range. Echocardiography and abdominal ultrasonography were normal. COVID-19 PCR test drawn at 48h of age was positive. On the postnatal 4th day, the patient suddenly had tachycardia and abdominal tension. Free air in the abdomen was detected on direct abdominal X-ray. The patient was taken to surgery urgently. On laparotomy, brownish ascites and necrotic small bowel and colon starting from 20cm of ligamentum of Treitz to the middle part of the transverse colon were seen. Jejunostomy was constructed at area that 50cm distal to Treitz with a relatively better appearance (with circulatory disorder but not full-thickness necrosis) and transverse colon mucous fistula without primary anastomosis. The patient died one day after surgery due to cardiorespiratory arrest and multiorgan failure.

Although most of the reported symptoms of the COVID-19 are related to the respiratory system, there is concern that the occurrence of serious and life-threatening manifestations such as mesenteric ischemia in the gastrointestinal tract may be overlooked in also neonatal period.

We need to know more about how these settings help those remain in recovery. Our study measured advice seeking and willingness-to-loan relationships and operationalized them as a dynamic multiplex social network-multiple, simultaneous interdependent relationships--that exist within 42 Oxford House recovery homes over time. By pooling relationship dynamics across recovery houses, a Stochastic Actor-Oriented Modeling (SAOM) framework (Snijders et al., 2010) was used to estimate a set of parameters governing the evolution of the network and the recovery attributes of the nodes simultaneously. Findings indicated that advice and loan relationships and recovery-related attitudes were endogenously interdependent, and these results were affected exogenously by gender, ethnicity, and reason for leaving the recovery houses. Tretinoin solubility dmso Prior findings had indicated that higher advice seeking in recovery houses was related to higher levels of stress with more negative outcomes. However, the current study found that recovery is enhanced over time if advice was sought from residents with higher recovery scores. Our study shows that social embedding, i.e. one's position in relationship networks, affects recovery prospects. More specifically, the formation of ties with relatively more recovered residents as an important predictor of better outcomes.Safe human-robot interaction requires robots endowed with perception. This paper presents the design of a multi-modal sensory array for continuum robots, targeting operation in semi-structured confined spaces with human users. Active safety measures are enabled via sensory arrays capable of simultaneous sensing of proximity, contact, and force. Proximity sensing is achieved using time-of-flight sensors, while contact force is sensed using Hall effect sensors and embedded magnets. The paper presents the design and fabrication of these sensors, the communication protocol and multiplexing scheme used to allow an interactive rate of communication with a high-level controller, and an evaluation of these sensors for actively mapping the shape of the environment and compliance control using gestures and contact with the robot. Characterization of the proximity sensors is presented with considerations of sensitivity to lighting, color, and texture conditions. Also, characterization of the force sensing is presented. The results show that the multi-modal sensory array can enable pre and post-collision active safety measures and can also enable user interaction with the robot. We believe this new technology allows for increased safety for human-robot interaction in confined and semi-structures spaces due to its demonstrated capabilities of detecting impending collision and mapping the environment along the length of the robot. Future miniaturization of the electronics will also allow possible integration in smaller continuum and soft robots. We study the sample covariance matrix for real-valued data with general population covariance, as well as MANOVA-type covariance estimators in variance components models under null hypotheses of global sphericity. In the limit as matrix dimensions increase proportionally, the asymptotic spectra of such estimators may have multiple disjoint intervals of support, possibly intersecting the negative half line. We show that the distribution of the extremal eigenvalue at each regular edge of the support has a GOE Tracy-Widom limit. Our proof extends a comparison argument of Ji Oon Lee and Kevin Schnelli, replacing a continuous Green function flow by a discrete Lindeberg swapping scheme.
India is the epicenter of diabetes mellitus (DM). The relationship between COVID and DM in age/gender-matched non-diabetics has not been studied yet. The role of DM in predicting the disease severity and outcome in COVID patients might provide new insight for effective management.

We conducted a prospective comparative study at a COVID care center from 25th April-31st May 2021. Among 357 severe-COVID patients screened, all consecutive diabetes (n-113) and age/gender-matched non-diabetes (n-113) patients were recruited. All diabetics and non-diabetics at admission were subjected to high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) chest and inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, ferritin, interleukin-6 (IL-6), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR)) before starting anti- COVID therapy. Statistical analysis was done using JMP 15·0 ver·3·0·0.

The prevalence of DM among the screened population (n-357) was 38·37%. The mean age of the study population was 61y with male preponderance (57%). There was no statistical difference in the HRCT-score or inflammatory markers in the two groups except for higher NLR (p-0·0283) in diabetics. Diabetics had significantly inferior overall survival (OS) (p-0·0251) with a 15d-OS of diabetics vs. non-diabetics being 58·87%, 72·67%, and 30d-OS of diabetics vs. non-diabetics being 46·76%, 64·61%, respectively. The duration of the hospital stay was not statistically different in the two groups (p-0·2).

The mortality is significantly higher in severe-COVID patients with DM when compared to age/gender-matched non-diabetics. There was no significant difference in most inflammatory markers/CT at admission between the two groups.
