Pre-hospital services are not well developed in Vietnam, especially the lack of a trauma system of care. Thus, the prognosis of traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) might differ from that of other countries. Although the outcome in cardiac arrest following trauma is dismal, pre-hospital resuscitation efforts are not futile and seem worthwhile. Understanding the country-specific causes, risk, and prognosis of traumatic OHCA is important to reduce mortality in Vietnam. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the survival rate from traumatic OHCA and to measure the critical components of the chain of survival following a traumatic OHCA in the country.

We performed a multicenter prospective observational study of patients (> 16 years) presenting with traumatic OHCA to three central hospitals throughout Vietnam from February 2014 to December 2018. We collected data on characteristics, management, and outcomes of patients, and compared these data between patients who died before hospital dischaients with traumatic OHCA presented to the ED with a low rate of EMS utilization and low survival rates. The poor outcomes emphasize the need for increasing bystander first-aid, developing an organized trauma system of care, and developing a standard emergency first-aid program for both healthcare personnel and the community.

By understanding the information seeking behaviors of older adults, we can better develop or iterate effective information technologies, such as the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal, that provide evidence-based health information to the public. This paper reports health-related information seeking and searching behaviours and provides strategies for effective knowledge translation (KT) to increase awareness and use of reliable health information.

We conducted a qualitative study with eighteen older adults using the persona-scenario method, whereby participants created personas and scenarios describing older adults seeking health information. Scenarios were analyzed using a two-phase inductive qualitative approach, with the personas as context. From the findings related to pathways of engaging with health information, we identified targeted KT strategies to raise awareness and uptake of evidence-based information resources.

Twelve women and six men, 60 to 81 years of age, participated. In pairs, they createnetworks of older adults. KT strategies that could be employed by organizations or communities sharing evidence-based, reliable health information include combinations of educational outreach and materials, decision support tools, small group sessions, publicity campaigns, champions/opinion leaders, and conferences.

A questionnaire was conducted among consecutive outpatients undergoing their first esophagogastroduodenoscopy for dyspepsia. Symptoms other than alarm symptoms in this study were defined as uncomplicated dyspepsia.

4310 outpatients (mean age 44, median 42, range 14-86) were included in the final analyses. Significant pathology was found in 13.8% (595/4310) patients including peptic ulcer (12.3%) and upper gastrointestinal malignancy (1.5%). Age, male sex and alarm symptoms were significantly associated with malignancy. The age cut-off identified for upper gastrointestinal malignancy was 56years among patients with uncomplicated dyspepsia, which was similar to the combined cutoff of age and gender.

Age should be considered as the primary predictor for upper gastrointestinal malignancy in Chinese patients with uncomplicated dyspepsia. 56 could probably be the optimal age to identify those lesions in this population.

The genus Xanthomonas has long been considered to consist predominantly of plant pathogens, but over the last decade there has been an increasing number of reports on non-pathogenic and endophytic members. As Xanthomonas species are prevalent pathogens on a wide variety of important crops around the world, there is a need to distinguish between these plant-associated phenotypes. To date a large number of Xanthomonas genomes have been sequenced, which enables the application of machine learning (ML) approaches on the genome content to predict this phenotype. Until now such approaches to the pathogenomics of Xanthomonas strains have been hampered by the fragmentation of information regarding pathogenicity of individual strains over many studies. Unification of this information into a single resource was therefore considered to be an essential step.

Mining of 39 papers considering both plant-associated phenotypes, allowed for a phenotypic classification of 578 Xanthomonas strains. Ab initio prediction of splice sites is an essential step in eukaryotic genome annotation. Recent predictors have exploited Deep Learning algorithms and reliable gene structures from model organisms. However, Deep Learning methods for non-model organisms are lacking.

We developed Spliceator to predict splice sites in a wide range of species, including model and non-model organisms. Spliceator uses a convolutional neural network and is trained on carefully validated data from over 100 organisms. We show that Spliceator achieves consistently high accuracy (89-92%) compared to existing methods on independent benchmarks from human, fish, fly, worm, plant and protist organisms.

In this study, a new algorithm called genomic scar analysis (GSA) has developed and validated to calculate homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) score. The two critical submodules were tree recursion (TR) segmentation and filtering, and the estimation and correction of the tumor purity and ploidy. Then, this study evaluated the rationality of segmentation and genotype identification by the GSA algorithm and compared with other two algorithms, PureCN and ASCAT, found that the segmentation result of GSA algorithm was more logical. In addition, the results indicated that the GSA algorithm had an excellent predictive effect on tumor purity and ploidy, if the tumor purity was more than 20%. Furtherly, this study evaluated the HRD scores and BRCA1/2 deficiency status of 195 clinical samples, and the results indicated that the accuracy was 0.98 (comparing with Affymetrix OncoScan™ assay) and the sensitivity was 95.2% (comparing with BRCA1/2 deficiency status), both were well-behaved. Finally, HRD scores and 16 genes mutations (TP53 and 15 HRR pathway genes) were analyzed in 17 cell lines, the results showed that there was higher frequency in HRR pathway genes in high HRD score samples.
