The amount of NIH funding did not have a significant linear correlation with educational initiatives (P=0.08) but there was a significant linear correlation between funding and presence of research initiatives (P=0.003).
AI educational initiatives were offered by almost half of radiology departments. Most departments had AI researchers and affiliated labs, but the majority were not led by the radiology department, and few had formal AI leadership roles. In the new AI era, these findings provide a benchmark for departments considering implementing formal AI initiatives.

As the resulting pandemic, quickly dubbed COVID-19, unfolded, we learned to enact public health safety measures to reduce or prevent its spread, particularly "social distancing," an expression once alien but now understood all too well. Consequently, many sought online resources when they would have previously accessed them in person. We have used Facebook Live for several years to discuss radiology topics and, on occasion, interview experts in the medical field and beyond. Much like live television, Facebook Live enables creators like us to share videos with followers in real time. Unlike live television, Facebook Live allows viewers to leave comments and questions in real time, rendering the platform much more interactive. Because Facebook Live has been a helpful tool for us to speak to radiology students and professionals around the world, we looked for another way to continue our interviews on Facebook Live while maintaining social distancing. We have managed to continue our interviews while socially distanced using the video communications software Zoom. With an increasing number of people migrating to online technology, the widespread use of social media for radiology education is imminent. We encourage others to consider mixing Facebook Live and Zoom to create more holistic educational experiences for radiology in the digital world. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that life can change unexpectedly and quickly, but online education is here to stay.Unenhanced abdominopelvic CT is frequently performed in patients who are critically ill or have contraindications to intravenous contrast. These cases can be challenging to interpret for the radiologist. Attention to CT physics and care in optimizing image viewing through techniques such as windowing can maximize diagnostic yield. In this case-based review, we will discuss the CT physics concepts of attenuation, common indications and reasons for unenhanced abdominopelvic CT, and review its utility through a series of illustrative cases.
COVID-19 disrupted oral health care delivery and revealed gaps in dental public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR). Emerging dental PHEPR frameworks can be strengthened by means of understanding the experiences of the discipline's frontline workers-dental safety net providers-during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Experienced qualitative researchers interviewed dental safety net directors and clinicians (n= 21) in 6 states to understand their experiences delivering care from March 2020 through February 2021. Interview transcriptions were analyzed using iterative codes to identify major and minor themes. Conventional qualitative validity checks were used continuously to ensure impartiality and rigor.
Three major themes were identified unpredictability caused concerns among staff members and patients, while also deepening fulfilling collaborations; care delivery was guided by means of various resources that balanced safety, flexibility, and respect for autonomy; and pandemic-driven changes to oral health care delivery are timely, long-lasting, and can be somewhat fraught.
The human, material, and policy resources that providers used to control infections, serve vulnerable patients, maintain clinic solvency, and address provider burnout during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic can improve dental PHEPR.
Dental PHEPR should address concerns beyond infection control within and between practice models, governmental agencies, and professional organizations. Examples of such concerns include, but are not limited to, guideline synchronization, materials exigencies, task shifting, and provider resilience.

A novel monolithic zirconia restoration fabricated by additive 3-dimensional (3D) gel deposition, named as self-glazed zirconia (SGZ), has recently been developed. SGZ crowns exhibit reliable mechanical properties and esthetic appearance, but their adaptation and uniformity are unclear.
The purpose of this invitro study was to compare the adaptation and uniformity of monolithic zirconia crowns fabricated by additive 3D gel deposition with that of milled zirconia and lithium disilicate crowns.
Ten identical resin abutments were made based on the scanning data of an extracted and prepared human mandibular first molar. Three types of monolithic crowns were then fabricated by using 2 different processes 3D gel deposition zirconia (SGZ), milled zirconia (ZZ), and milled lithium disilicate (EMX) (n=10) through a completely digital workflow. The nondestructive direct-view technique and replica technique were used to measure the marginal and internal discrepancy values individually. The uniformity index was caland lithium disilicate crowns fabricated by subtractive milling, monolithic zirconia crowns fabricated by additive 3D gel deposition had comparable uniformity and better internal adaptation.
High-performance polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has been used in dentistry because of its excellent physical and chemical properties. However, its lack of translucency requires the use of a veneering composite resin for esthetic applications. Data on bonding a veneering composite resin to PEEK are still scarce.
The purpose of this invitro study was to assess the effect of using and combining different surface treatments on the surface roughness and wettability of PEEK core materialsand the shear bond strength (SBS) to a veneering composite resin.
Sixty square PEEK specimens were divided according to surface treatments into 6 groups group N, no surface treatment; group A, airborne-particle abrasion; group L, ERYAG laser treatment; group LA, laser treatment and airborne-particle abrasion; group P, plasma treatment; and group PA, plasma treatment and airborne-particle abrasion. Surface roughness (Ra) and wettability (contact angle θ) were measured followed by evaluation of the surface topography. After veneerEEK surfaces favorably compared with applying each of the 3 treatments individually. The combinations enhanced the bond strength of PEEK to the veneering composite resin. The island of Mayotte is part of the French territory and one of the European Union's Outermost Regions but there is a significant lack of data and research on health and cancers in Mayotte. This article reviews the literature on health, disease and cancer in Mayotte, from the perspectives of social science and epidemiology. It starts by shedding light on the specificities of Mahoran demography and society, and shows the healthcare infrastructure is insufficient to meet the population's needs. It then reviews social science studies on health and illness in Mayotte and shows that the political issue of migration permeates the management and the experiences of health on the island. It ends with a focus on the epidemiology of cervical cancer and a review of the available data on screening, treatment and prevention. The article concludes with a quick review of ongoing research and urgently calls for more data and research on this critical public health issue.
The anatomy education literature suggests blended-learning approaches as more effective. We performed a literature review to answer the question if virtual dissection tables can play a significant role as supplements to traditional cadaver-based anatomy education methods.
PubMed, SCOPUS, ERIC and Cochrane databases were searched for articles with purpose to explore the outcomes of the use of virtual dissection tables in conjunction with cadaver-based anatomy education.
Six articles were included. Three articles were comparative and comprised evaluation of participants' anatomy examinations results. GS-4224 PD-1 inhibitor Three articles were non-comparative and comprised only evaluation of participants' opinions about the educational intervention. In all studies, the participants expressed satisfaction about the educational value of this intervention, while the data about anatomy examinations' results suggest that virtual dissection tables may also enhance students' academic performance, when they are used in conjunction with cadavers.
Virtual dissection tables seem to do have a role in modern blended-learning anatomy curricula and could essentially supplement the educational power of cadaver-based methods. Our findings may stimulate further implementation of virtual dissection tables as supplementary tools to cadaver-based anatomy education.

The clinical manifestations of NBD vary depending on the level and severity of the spinal cord lesion. Managing patients with NBD can be complicated by comorbidities, such as immobility, bladder dysfunction, progressive neurologic decline, psychological factors, loss of independence, and social withdrawal, and ideally involves a multimodal, multidisciplinary approach. Evaluation and management should be individualized, depending on the residual neurologic capabilities of the patient and their predominant gastrointestinal symptoms, and commonly involves lifestyle modifications, physical therapy, laxative medications, and surgical interventions.Fecal incontinence (FI) is defined as the involuntary loss or passage of solid or liquid stool in patients. FI is a common and debilitating condition in men and women. The incidence increases with age and also often goes unreported to health care providers. It is crucial that providers ask at-risk patients about possible symptoms. Evaluation and management is tailored to specific symptoms and characteristics of the incontinence. If conservative methods fail to improve symptoms, then other surgical options are considered, such as sacral nerve stimulation and anal sphincter augmentation. This review provides an update on current and future therapies.
