We present a 57 years old man who came to the emergency department at Monmouth Medical Center, New Jersey in fall, 2019. Reportedly he has been vaping THC about 100g every day for past three days. At initial presentation, he had fever, shortness of breath and hypoxia requiring supplemental oxygen. He was empirically treated with levofloxacin 500 mg for five days without a significant improvement in his symptoms. Non-contrast chest CT scan showed bilateral ground-glass opacities, indicative of diffuse alveolar damage. He underwent flexible bronchoscopy to rule out infective pneumonia followed by auto-immune work-up that was non-conclusive. He was given 1 mg/kg methylprednisolone with a quick taper of oral steroids leading to the resolution of symptoms. At six months follow-up, imaging showed near resolution of ground-glass opacities.Although aerobic capacity has been identified as an important predictor of mortality in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) individuals, many remain insufficiently active. As a 'lack of time' is a commonly cited barrier to exercise, reduced-exertion high-intensity interval training (REHIT) may provide a truly time-effective method to increase aerobic capacity. Six-weeks of REHIT in a CF individual was assessed by a cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and individual perceptions described using a self-report narrative. Peak oxygen uptake ( V ˙ O2peak) increased by 6% whilst pulmonary function remained unchanged. Qualitative data indicated social support and low-time commitment positively influenced adherence with fatigue and lack of enjoyment noted as a significant barriers. REHIT was demonstrated as a viable, manageable option for a CF individual with moderate-severe pulmonary limitation. Further research is needed to determine the efficacy of REHIT in a large representative sample to ascertain whether it represents an alternative treatment strategy.Severe pediatric ARDS remains a significant challenge for clinicians, and management strategies are essentially limited to lung protective ventilation strategies, and adjunct approaches such as prone positioning, steroids, surfactant, and inhaled nitric oxide in unique situations. Inhaled nitric oxide produces pulmonary vasodilation in ventilated regions of the lung, shunting blood away from poorly ventilated areas and thus optimizing the ventilation perfusion ratio. A subset of patients with ARDS are known to be non-responders to nitric oxide, and selective pulmonary vasodilators such as Epoprostenol can be useful as rescue therapy in such cases. In this case report we present the new onset anosmia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The patient, 31-year-old, reported olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions as initial symptoms of mild-to-moderate form of the COVID-19. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological behavior of a novel bioactive glass (60% SiO2- 36% CaO-4% P2O5) as bone substitute in critical calvaria defects of rats, in comparison to hydroxyapatite.

Sixty male Wistar rats were divided in three groups, according to the treatment Control Group (C) - blood clot; Hydroxyapatite (HA) - particulate hydroxyapatite (≤0,5mm); and Bioactive Glass (BG) - particulate bioactive glass (0.04-1mm).

From the intergroup analysis, it was observed that Group C presented a greater newly formed bone area (NBA) when compared to Groups HA and BG. In addition, Group HA showed higher NBA when compared to Group BG at 30 and 60 days (P<0.05). Immunohistochemistry revealed that groups HA and BG presented high and moderate osteocalcin immunolabeling respectively. Group HA displayed a greater number of TRAP-positive cells compared to Groups C and BG at 30 and 60 days (p<0.05).

From these results, we can conclude that the resorption rate of hydroxyapatite is higher than the novel bioactive glass, which maintained significant higher volume until the last experimental period. Both of the tested biomaterials acted as osteoconductors during bone repair, and their physical characteristics importantly influenced this process.
