In the present study, we investigated the effect of posttraining noradrenergic activation in male C57BL/6J mice on the consolidation of object recognition and object location memory. We found that the noradrenergic stimulant yohimbine (0.3 or 1.0 mg/kg) administered systemically immediately after an object training experience dose-dependently enhanced 24-h memory of both the identity and location of the object. Thus, these findings indicate that noradrenergic activation also enhances memory consolidation processes in mice, paving the way for a systematic investigation of the neural circuitry underlying these emotional arousal effects on memory.LAY SUMMARY The current study successfully validated the effect of noradrenergic activation on both object recognition and object location memory in mice. This study thereby provides a fundamental proof-of-principle for the investigation of the neural circuitry underlying noradrenergic and arousal effects on long-term memory in mice.Health practitioners of the geriatrics ward in a teaching hospital participate in interprofessional team meetings to agree on treatment and discharge care plans for their patients suffering from chronic illnesses and co-morbidities and in need of coordinated assessments and care. We turn to the ideas in critical discursive psychology to grow a much-needed research area of examining the language-in-use and its effects in team decision-making. Specifically we explore how healthcare team members use language to perform collaboration or disengagement, creating different subject positionings for themselves and others out of a backcloth of discursive resources and practices. We observed and transcribed 108 case discussions and analyzed them for interpretative repertoires and discursive devices. During the first half of the team discussions, the members of various health professions employed the empiricist and lifeworld interpretative repertoires and the discursive strategy of perspective-taking, articulating these through formulations and questions. We use the notion of argumentative texture to better understand why an administrative structural support like protected turn-taking in team meetings is not enough to promote interprofessional collaboration. We conclude that health practitioners can improve their contributions and subject positionings at team meetings and consequently patient-care, by identifying habitually deployed linguistic resources depicting professional knowledge, and augmenting these with Other-oriented perspectives in their repertoires. By expanding their range of discursive repertoires and recognizing that discursive practices are embedded in the bigger context or argumentative texture of institutional and societal discourses, norms, values, beliefs and practices, interprofessional teams can work to improve communication and knowledge-sharing.Emotional experiences in the context of learning play an important role in the handling of learning processes. The aim of this study was to track participants' self-reported academic emotions using a momentary assessment design with 14 measurement points to identify patterns and emotional states. In a 2-week course, 35 medical and nursing students were assigned to work together in small groups and assess real cardiac patients' histories, treatment, and care. Thirty-two students participated in the study. Within means, standard deviations, and intra-class correlation coefficients were assessed to consider the relative proportion of within- and between-individual variation. Type of activity, time of day and group effects were investigated by means of ANOVAs or Mann-Whitney U tests. Results show a heterogeneous pattern of positive moods and only marginal occurrence of negative moods. Within variation was bigger than between variation of most positive moods. The highest positive affect was reported during a reflective seminar. Negative affect was higher during a stressful task. Medical and nursing students only differed in terms of their nervousness. It was also revealed that the variation in moods differed to a great extent between the small groups. The findings support the importance of academic emotions in interprofessional learning. Designing IPE to foster positive emotions during the learning processes might help students to be able to apply their knowledge and insights on the benefits of interprofessional collaboration in future working environments.Although we experience complex patterns over our entire body, how we selectively perceive multi-site touch over our bodies remains poorly understood. Here, we characterized tactile search behavior over the body using a tactile analog of the classic visual search task. Participants judged whether a target stimulus (e.g., 10-Hz vibration) was present or absent on the upper or lower limbs. When present, the target stimulus could occur alone or with distractor stimuli (e.g., 30-Hz vibrations) on other body locations. We varied the number and spatial configurations of the distractors as well as the target and distractor frequencies and measured the impact of these factors on search response times. First, we found that response times were faster on target-present trials compared to target-absent trials. Second, response times increased with the number of stimulated sites, suggesting a serial search process. Third, search performance differed depending on stimulus frequencies. This frequency-dependent behavior may be related to perceptual grouping effects based on timing cues.
