Autofertility describes the ability of faba bean flowers to self-fertilize thereby ensuring the productivity of this crop in the absence of pollinators or mechanical disturbance. In the legume crop faba bean (Vicia faba L.), lack of autofertility in a context of insufficient pollination can lead to a severe decrease in grain yield. Here we performed the first QTL analysis aimed at identifying the genomic regions controlling autofertility in this crop. We combined pod and seed setting scores from a recombinant inbred population (RIL) segregating for autofertility in different environments and years with measurements of morphological floral traits and pollen production and viability. This approach revealed 19 QTLs co-localizing in six genomic regions. Extensive co-localization was evident for various floral features whose QTLs clustered in chrs. I, II and V, while other QTLs in chrs. III, IV and VI revealed co-localization of flower characteristics and pod and seed set data. The percentage of phenotypic variation explained by the QTLs ranged from 8.9 for style length to 25.7 for stigma angle. In the three QTLs explaining the highest phenotypic variation (R 2 > 20), the marker alleles derived from the autofertile line Vf27. We further inspected positional candidates identified by these QTLs which represent a valuable resource for further validation. Our results advance the understanding of autofertility in faba bean and will aid the identification of responsible genes for genomic-assisted breeding in this crop.
The COVID-19 pandemic placed an unprecedented overload on healthcare system globally. With all medical resources being dedicated to contain the spread of the disease, the pandemic may have impacted the burden of other infectious diseases such as dengue, particularly in countries endemic for dengue fever. Indeed, the co-occurrence of COVID-19 made dengue diagnosis challenging because of some shared clinical manifestations between the two pathogens. Furthermore, the sudden emergence and novelty of this global public health crisis has forced the suspension or slow-down of several research trials due to the lack of sufficient knowledge on how to handle the continuity of research trials during the pandemic. We report on challenges we have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and measures that were implemented to continue the iDEM project (intervention for Dengue Epidemiology in Malaysia).
This randomized controlled trial aims to assess the effectiveness of Integrated Vector Management (IVM) on the incidence of dseveral channels (e.g., phone calls and text messages). Sustained efforts of the management team, significant involvement of the Malaysian Ministry of Health and a quick and smart adaptation of the trial organisation according to the pandemic situation were the main factors that allowed the successful continuation of our research.

The incidence rates of obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are increasing in parallel. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between different obesity indices, including prepregnancy body mass index (preBMI), the first-trimester abdominal circumference (AC), and first-trimester abdominal circumference/height ratio (ACHtR), and GDM, and the efficacy of these three indices in predicting GDM was assessed.
A total of 15,472 pregnant women gave birth to a singleton at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Prepregnancy weight was self-reported by study participants, body height and AC were measured by nurses at the first prenatal visit during weeks 11 to 13
of pregnancy. GDM was diagnosed through a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28 gestational weeks. Using receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, we evaluated the association between obesity indices and GDM.
A total of 1912 women (12.4%) were diagnosed with GDM. Logistic regresse for GDM.
An increase in ACHtR may be an independent risk factor for GDM in the first trimester of pregnancy. Even in the normal BMI population, the higher the AC and ACHtR are, the more likely a pregnant woman is to develop GDM. AC, ACHtR in the first trimester and preBMI might be anthropometric indices for predicting GDM, but a single obesity index had limited predictive value for GDM.
We examine the antecedents of COVID-19 phone tracking applications use, social distancing, and mask use, in the United States, Hong Kong and Japan.
We draw on online panel surveys of over 1000 respondents each in the USA, Hong Kong and Japan, using broadly representative quota sample selections. Results are tested by ordinal logistic regression for the two ordinal dependent variables and logistic regression for phone app use.
Confidence in public health scientists predicts use of phone tracking applications, social distancing, and mask use, albeit statistically insignificant for tracer phone application use in Hong Kong. Trust in government predicts the use of a phone tracking application. Counterintuitively, trust in government is negatively and significantly associated with mask use and social distancing in Hong Kong and Japan. Women are more likely to wear masks and practice social distancing. Government employees are more likely to use a phone tracking application, but less likely to mask and socialportant to understand successful public health policy implementation.
Despite differences in time of sepsis recognition, recent studies support that early initiation of norepinephrine in patients with septic shock (SS) improves outcome without an increase in adverse effects. This study aims to investigate the relationship between 30-day mortality in patients with SS and prehospital norepinephrine infusion in order to reach a mean blood pressure (MAP) > 65mmHg at the end of the prehospital stage.
From April 06th, 2016 to December 31th, 2020, patients with SS requiring prehospital Mobile Intensive Care Unit intervention (MICU) were retrospectively analysed. To consider cofounders, the propensity score method was used to assess the relationship between prehospital norepinephrine administration in order to reach a MAP > 65mmHg at the end of the prehospital stage and 30-day mortality.
Four hundred and seventy-eight patients were retrospectively analysed, among which 309 patients (65%) were male. The mean age was 69 ± 15years. Pulmonary, digestive, and urinary infections very early norepinephrine infusion decreases septic shock mortality.
65 mmHg at the end of the prehospital stage is associated with a decrease in 30-day mortality in patients with SS cared for by a MICU in the prehospital setting. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm that very early norepinephrine infusion decreases septic shock mortality.
To evaluate the utility of high-resolution compressed sensing time-of-fight MR angiography (CS TOF-MRA) for assessing patients with moyamoya disease (MMD) after surgical revascularization, by comparison with computer tomography angiography (CTA).
Twenty patients with MMD after surgical revascularizations who underwent CS TOF-MRA and CTA were collected. The scan time of CS TOF-MRA was 5min and 4s, with a reconstructed resolution of 0.4 × 0.4 × 0.4mm
. Visualization of superficial temporal artery and middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypass, neovascularization into the brain pial surface and Moyamoya vessels (MMVs) were independently ranked by two neuroradiologists on CS TOF-MRA and CTA, respectively. The patency of anastomosis was assessed as patent or occluded, using digital subtraction angiography and expert's consensus as ground truth. Interobserver agreement was calculated using the weighted kappa statistic. Wilcoxon signed-rank or Chi-square test was performed to investigate diagnostic difference between CS TOF-MRA and CTA.
Twenty-two hemispheres from 20 patients were analyzed. The inter-reader agreement for evaluating STA-MCA bypass, neovascularization and anastomosis patency was good to excellent (κ
, 0.738-1.000; κ
, 0.743-0.909). The STA-MCA bypass and MMVs were better visualized on CS TOF-MRA than CTA (both P < 0.05). CS TOF-MRA had a higher sensitivity than CTA (94.7% vs. 73.7%) for visualizing anastomoses. Neovascularization was better observed in 13 (59.1%) sides on CS TOF-MRA, in comparison to 7 (31.8%) sides on CTA images (P = 0.005).
High-resolution CS TOF-MRA outperforms CTA for visualization of STA-MCA bypass, neovascularization and MMVs within a clinically reasonable time in MMD patients after revascularization.

Failure to attend scheduled appointments is a common problem in healthcare. In obstetrics, diagnostic and treatment protocols for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) require client booking, test preparations, management and follow-up reviews. We identified the socio-demographic, obstetric and medical drivers influencing adherence to appointments for GDM testing and experiences of pregnant women's regarding performing oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).
A convergent parallel mixed-methods study comprising a cross-sectional survey and an explorative qualitative descriptive design were used. We recruited 817 women in their first trimester of pregnancy from the antenatal clinics of primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities in Ghana. After obtaining their demographic and health history, we scheduled them for 2-h OGTT between 24 and 28 gestational weeks and estimated the odds of returning for the test. In the qualitative phase, we called 166 participants to ascertain why they failed to report. Also, we pathy, reassurance and receiving ample information on the test procedures eased anxiety and improved test compliance.
Although 40% of participants scheduled did not return, the test was generally acceptable. Socio-cultural underpinnings influenced the health-seeking behaviors, meaning that health worker interactions on test procedures need to be sensitive to the woman's situation.

A consequence of demographic trends and economic prosperous is the increasing diversity in needs for care services. However, the traditional family support for older people has been largely supplanted by the wider provision of community care services. This study aims to investigate the current status of demand and supply in community care services across different villages of Zhejiang province and assess service effectiveness for healthy ageing.
A questionnaire survey was carried out towards 207 rural villages across 9 cities in Zhejiang province. One hundred eighty-six valid responses were received, representing a response rate of around 89.9%. Descriptive statistics were employed to identify older villagers' care needs and available community services. Comparative analysis examined the balance between the demand and supply of community care services. Correlation analysis were applied to determine key factors that impacted the supply of social services in rural communities.
The research found that rural older residents normally lived with their children or spouse with limited literacy and income.
