In this educational initiative, older adults, from a Residential Aged Care Campus (RACC), participated as simulated patients in scenario based clinical learning activities, providing feedback to nursing students on the carative aspects of the learning activities. The aim of this study was to contribute toward the body of knowledge in engaging older adults in simulated clinical activities, specifically in the provision of feedback to nursing students. A qualitative interpretive methodology was applied to capture the older adults' experiences of providing feedback as simulated patients. This included the collection of data through participant observation, recording of field notes, collection of a written feedback form and semi-structured interviews with the participants. Thematic analysis was undertaken to identify emergent themes in the data. Findings from this study have emphasised the value of including the patient voice in nursing education. The provision of feedback by older adults during direct care interactions supports and nurtures student awareness of the patient and the caring process of nursing. Unique to this study, was the finding that although the participants received no formal training in the delivery of feedback, all utilised a clear process recognised within the literature. A recommendation linked to this finding is that a feedback training program would be of benefit in reducing some of the feelings of uncertainty expressed by the older adults when giving feedback and better equipping them to deliver constructive feedback.Capsaicinoids, including capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin and N-vanillylnonanamide have been identified as characteristic markers for gutter oil. In this study, the nanocomposite of graphene oxide-Fe3O4 (GO-Fe3O4) was synthesized by a co-precipitation method, and applied to magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) process. The capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin and N-vanillylnonanamide extracted in gutter oil were analyzed by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Under the optimized pretreatment conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) are 0.15 and 0.4 µg L-1, respectively. The linear range is 0.4-200 µg L-1, and the correlation coefficients (R2) are over 0.996 for all three compounds. The recoveries range from 81.2% to 103.3% for soybean oil and 71.2% to 84.3% for rapeseed oil. The values of matrix effect range in 87.6%-105.5% and 83.4%-110.6% and the intra-day RSDs range from 2.8%-4.6% to 4.8%-6.1% for soybean oil and rapeseed oil, respectively. The adsorbent can be reused for multiple times with no appreciable loss of adsorption capability. The present methodology has high potential for screening of gutter oil in food samples, thus having importance for food safety monitoring.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Rhodiola crenulata extract (RCE) has shown its protective effects on AD, however, the underlying mechanism is still unclear. In this work, serum lipidomics was conducted to reveal the action mechanism of RCE on AD by HPLC coupled with Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS). The animal model of AD was reproduced by intrahippocampal injection of Aβ1-42 in rats. The novel object recognition test and passive avoidance test were performed to evaluate the protective effects of RCE on AD rats. The differences of lipid metabolism profiles in rats were evaluated by multivariate statistical analysis. Then, the potential lipid biomarkers were identified and the possible mechanism of RCE on AD was elucidated by metabolic pathways analysis. As a result, twenty-eight lipids with significant differences between the control group and the model group were screened out. This innovative method was successfully applied to determine AEA and 2-AG in brain hemispheres from a 6-OHDA animal model of Parkinson's disease (PD).A new type of immunomagnetic bead based on the metal-organic framework materials (MOFs) and the magnetic core (Fe3O4) was prepared for analysis of the mycotoxins in food samples. The MOF conjugated with the monoclonal antibodies (McAbs) was coated on the surface of Fe3O4 beads by reversed-phase microemulsion method, which could purify deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenone (ZEN), T-2, and HT-2 mycotoxins at the same time. The composite (Fe3O4@AMP&ZnCl2@McAbs) was characterized by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) mapping. The results showed that the synthesis of the composite was successful. The maximum toxin adsorption capacity per 100 mg of composite was DON 688.26 ng, ZEN 864.98 ng, and T-2/HT-2 2801.80 ng, and in adding recovery experiment, the recovery of four mycotoxins decreased slightly with the increase of usage times, but still maintained a high adsorption rate and stability. For effectiveness comparison and evaluation, the composite and commercial DZTMS-PREP immune affinity column were used to treat three samples of corn, wheat, and oat flour, and the purification effect of the two pretreatment methods on the four toxins was similar.
