Across disciplines and within higher educational systems, assessing postgraduate outcomes is essential for evaluating doctoral programs, including research-intensive nursing science doctoral programs. However, there are limited reports regarding methods and metrics related to postgraduate longitudinal evaluation of research-focused nursing doctoral programs.

The purpose of this paper is to summarize studies in the area of postgraduate outcome assessment and provide recommendations regarding outcome methods and metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of research-focused nursing doctoral programs.

PubMed/Medline, CINHAL Complete, and Google Scholar databases were searched using key words including PhD program, doctoral program, longitudinal evaluation, evaluation, program evaluation, PhD alumni survey, education outcomes and PhD program outcomes. We excluded non-English and full-text articles that were not available for review.

Based on a review of the literature, there are few reports on methods and questionnaires for postgraduate outcome assessment. There is a critical need to develop standardized core metrics/questions, longitudinal assessments, and a shared data repository. The latter will allow for comparisons across nursing doctoral programs.

The training and mentoring of pre- and post-doctoral trainees in nursing research is essential to feed the pipeline of nurses prepared to launch an independent program of research.

The purpose of this report is to describe a one-on-one grant writing Partnership developed in a school of nursing targeting pre- and post-doctoral trainees and quantify its impact on funding rates.

The Partnership includes four key elements regular meetings, setting a timeline with milestones, writing and editing support, and attention to administrative documents. Forty grant applications by pre- and post-doctoral trainees were developed and submitted from 2011 to 2020.

Among Partnership participants, 81.0% (17/21) received funding as compared with 42.1% (8/19) who did not participate, p=.02.

Adherence to opioid prescribing protocols after operations remains challenging despite published guidelines. Integration of these guidelines with the electronic health record could potentially improve their adoption. We hypothesize that implementing an electronic health record order set containing prepopulated tablet quantities tailored to surgical procedures based on published guidelines will decrease postoperative opioid prescription.

We conducted a 12-month prepost intervention study on adult patients who underwent appendectomy, cholecystectomy, inguinal or umbilical hernia repair, thyroidectomy, or parathyroidectomy at a single institution. The primary endpoint was change in morphine milligram equivalent prescribed postintervention and was analyzed using linear regression adjusting for age, race, procedure, and prescriber training level. Selective laser melting has been increasingly used in the fabrication of metal-ceramic prostheses. The lamination layer thickness may influence the fit of the restoration. However, data regarding its impact remain scarce.

The purpose of this invitro study was to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) 3-unit frameworks fabricated by additive manufacturing with different melting layer thicknesses on different abutments.

The first right maxillary premolar and molar from a typodont were prepared with a circumferential 1.2-mm chamfer, 2-mm occlusal reduction, and total taper of 8 degrees to receive 3-unit fixed partial dentures. After framework design, the data were sent to a laser machine, and 30 specimens were fabricated from Co-Cr metal powder (Mediloy S-Co) by selective laser melting. Specimens were assigned to 3 groups (n=10) with different lamination layer thicknesses of 25 (L25), 50 (L50), and 100 (L100) μm. Marginal fit and internal fit were evaluated. Results were compared among layer thickness groups and abutments. Data were compared by using the Levene test, t test, and ANOVA(α=.05).

A statistical difference was found between different layer thickness groups (P=.016), but not between abutments (P=.429). On the abutment level, significant difference was found in the gap values for the molars (P=.049) between layer thickness groups, but not for the premolars (P=.126). Group L25 reported the smallest mean discrepancy values, and group L100 reported the highest, with statistical difference found between group L100 and groups L25 (P<.001) and L50 (P<.025), but not between groups L25 and L50 (P=.094).

The research question was formulated by following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines by using the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study Type (PICOS) tool. Medline (PubMed), Embase, and Scopus searches complemented by manual search were performed for randomized controlled clinical trials with a follow-up of at least 2 years. Two independent authors performed screening and data extraction of the articles. Meta-analyses were performed with the RevMan software program. Homogeneity was checked bfor metal posts. Complex prosthodontic treatments frequently require capturing an accurate impression of abutment teeth throughout the dental arch. Intraoral digital scanning has been reported to be accurate within single dental quadrants; however, the positional trueness of complete arch intraoral digital scans is not well understood.

The purpose of this invitro study was to compare the positional trueness of a complete arch digital scan generated by digitally merging portions of a direct digital scan from an intraoral scanner (IOS) with a digitized polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) complete arch impression.

A 3D-printed reference cast was scanned with a desktop scanner, and reference standard tessellation language (STL) data sets were obtained. The reference cast was used to generate 4 nonmerged (NM) groups and 2 die-merged (DM) groups. In the NM groups (n=10), a direct digital scan of the reference cast was made with an IOS (NM-IOS), the PVS impression of the reference cast was digitized by using a cone beam computed tomograp. Complete arch digital scans generated with an IOS and CBCT scanner result in more deviations in the posterior regions, and their positional trueness may not be sufficient to construct an accurate digital scan. Generating a complete arch digital scan by digitally merging portions of a direct digital scan from an IOS with a digitized PVS complete arch impression is a suitable alternative to the contemporary workflow of digitizing a stone cast with a desktop scanner.ELECTRE is a family of multi-criteria decision analysis techniques, which has the ability to provide as much as possible precise and suitable set of actions or alternatives to the underlying problem by eliminating the alternatives, which are outranked by others. However, manual analysis of a standard 20-s microvascular video requires 20 min on average and necessitates extensive training. Thus, manual analysis has been reported to hinder the application of microvascular microscopy in a clinical environment. To address this problem, this paper presents a fully automated state-of-the-art system to quantify skin nutritive capillary density and red blood cell velocity captured by handheld-based microscopy videos. The proposed method combines the speed of traditional computer vision algorithms with the accuracy of convolutional neural networks to enable clinical capillary analysis. The results show that the proposed system fully automates capillary detection with an accuracy exceeding that of trained analysts and measures several novel microvascular parameters that had eluded quantification thus far, namely, capillary hematocrit and intracapillary flow velocity heterogeneity.
