Sabkhas in Kuwait are unique hypersaline marine environments under-explored for bacterial community composition and bioprospecting. The 16S rRNA sequence analysis of 46 isolates with distinct morphology from two Kuwait sabkhas recovered 11 genera. Phylum Firmicutes dominated these isolates, and Bacillus (32.6%) was recovered as the dominant genera, followed by Halococcus (17.4%). These isolates were moderately halophilic, and some of them showed tolerance and growth at extreme levels of salt (20%), pH (5 and/or 11), and temperature (55 °C). A higher percentage of isolates harbored protease (63.0), followed by DNase (41.3), amylase (41.3), and lipase (32.6). Selected isolates showed antimicrobial activity against E. faecalis and isolated Halomonas shengliensis, and Idiomarina piscisalsi harbored gene coding for dNDP-glucose 4,6-dehydratase (Glu 1), indicating their potential to produce biomolecules with deoxysugar moieties. Palmitic acid or oleic acid was the dominant fatty acid, and seven isolates had some polyunsaturated fatty acids (linolenic or γ-linolenic acid). Interestingly, six isolates belonging to Planococcus and Oceanobacillus genus produced squalene, a bioactive isoprenoid molecule. Their content increased 30-50% in the presence of Terbinafine. The potential bioactivities and extreme growth conditions make this untapped bacterial diversity a promising candidate for future bioprospecting studies.Control over micromotors' motion is of high relevance for lab-on-a-chip and biomedical engineering, wherein such particles encounter complex microenvironments. Here, we introduce an efficient way to influence Janus micromotors' direction of motion and speed by modifying their surface properties and those of their immediate surroundings. We fabricated light-responsive Janus micromotors with positive and negative surface charge, both driven by ionic self-diffusiophoresis. These were used to observe direction-of-motion reversal in proximity to glass substrates for which we varied the surface charge. Quantitative analysis allowed us to extract the dependence of the particle velocity on the surface charge density of the substrate. This constitutes the first quantitative demonstration of the substrate's surface charge on the motility of the light-activated diffusiophoretic motors in water. We provide qualitative understanding of these observations in terms of osmotic flow along the substrate generated through the ions released by the propulsion mechanism. Our results constitute a crucial step in moving toward practical application of self-phoretic artificial micromotors. This is one of the first studies carried out over three climatic seasons on the determination of ibuprofen and diclofenac, in the main rivers of Colombia and striped catfish Pseudoplatystoma magdaleniatum. Determination of water concentrations was carried out using SPE extraction, while for the analysis of the muscular tissue, the extraction was carried out by QuEChERS. For both matrices, quantification was done by UHPLC-MS/MS. No levels of ibuprofen or diclofenac concentrations were found in the muscle tissue of Pseudoplatystoma magdaleniatum, in any season or sampling site, during the 2 years of sampling. In some sampling sites, concentrations of up to 75 µg/L of diclofenac were detected, corresponding to the sampling carried out in the dry season, being the highest reported so far in surface waters, possibly generated by large concentrations of population or agricultural activities. On the other hand, for ibuprofen, no concentrations above the limit of quantification (0.50 µg/L) were found in the waters of the Cauca and Magdalena rivers, for any season and sampling site.
Breast cancer is a collection of diseases including the more common invasive ductal and lobular carcinomas and rarer subtypes of breast cancer. This review summarizes the features of rare breast cancers.

Each of the rare tumors has defined pathological and clinical features that impact treatment recommendations. In this review, we summarize these for each rare type of breast cancer and where available we include molecular features of each tumor. Rare subtypes of breast cancer each have unique features. In many cases, data is limited for the optimal treatment approaches.

For this purpose, 86 soil samples were taken from the identified locations with a depth of 0-10 cm before (43 samples in September 2015) and after (43 samples in April 2016) HS. Besides, 10 soil samples (5 samples before the HS and 5 samples after the HS) were collected to determine the contamination level from 50 cm deep soil as a reference value. selleck chemical Collected soil samples were tested for Zn, Cu, Co, Pb, Ni, Cr, Hg and Cd metal concentration as well as pH values. Both seasons showed similar results in the soil samples in terms of mean metal concentration levels in the following order Zn > Cr > Ni > Cu > Co > Pb > Cd > Hg. The mean concentration values of all the metals were higher after the HS than the levels before the HS. The study also attempted to determine anthropogenic metal input. An increase was observed in anthropogenic metal input after the HS when compared with before HS. Geoaccumulation index (Igeo) was employed to determine the degree of metal pollution, while the contamination factor (Cf) was used to determine the level of contamination. The overall degree of pollution was identified using the degree of contamination (Cd) and modified degree of contamination (mCd). Besides, the positive matrix factorization (PMF) receptor model used to find the possible sources of heavy metals in soil samples. The objectives of this study were to determine milk yield and constituents' levels of Holstein cows under Moroccan conditions and to assess the effects of environmental factors influencing them. Data including 93,815 test day records of 6343 Holstein cows in 162 herds were analyzed for milk yield, contents of fat, protein, lactose and solids-not-fat (SNF), milk urea nitrogen (MUN), and somatic cell score (SCS). Averages were 25.1 ± 7.33 kg/day, 3.54 ± 0.76%, 3.02 ± 0.34%, 4.89 ± 0.24%, 8.72 ± 0.36%, 17.6 ± 8.17 mg/dl, and 4.12 ± 2.06 units, respectively. The effects of herd and calving year were found to be significant on all the studied traits. Parity was determined to have significant effects on all analyzed traits, with the exception of MUN concentration. Milk yield, fat content, protein content, and SCS increased with parity, whereas lactose percentage decreased in later parities. Except fat and lactose contents, all the other studied variables were significantly influenced by calving season. Milk yield and MUN were highest for cows calving during humid season, whereas protein content, SNF content, and SCS tended to be higher in dry season. All the studied traits changed significantly according to stage of lactation. The peaks of milk yield and lactose content occurred between 35 and 65 days, whereas that of MUN between 95 and 125 days after parturition. Protein and SNF contents and SCS attained their lowest values between days 35 and 65, while fat content between days 65 and 95. It was concluded that these environmental factors should be taken into consideration if the milk yield and quality in Morocco is to be optimized.
To review carnitine's role in migraine and headache, present a case of a patient with intractable chronic migraine refractory to medications but exquisitely responsive to mitochondrial cofactors with a particularly prompt response to L-carnitine supplementation with dose response, and suggest scenarios where L-carnitine could be considered for prophylactic treatment in migraine and intractable headache with migraine features.

Multiple treatments modalities are used to treat migraine, including nutraceutical therapies. Mitochondrial supplements are often used to treat migraine, based on controlled trials. One of the nutraceutical therapies used in neurological and non-neurological conditions is L-carnitine. A few studies have examined the effect of carnitine in patients with migraine. We present a case of a patient with chronic migraine-like headaches found to have carnitine deficiency whose headaches greatly improved with carnitine supplementation. This case suggests that secondary carnitine deficiency mao have carnitine deficiency whose headaches greatly improved with carnitine supplementation. This case suggests that secondary carnitine deficiency may cause chronic migraine. Energy deficiency states occur with migraine, and replenishment of energy substrates has demonstrated some improvement in migraine. Recent studies suggest that L-carnitine with other mitochondrial cofactors may be migraine preventives. The exact link between carnitine and migraine is unknown. Perhaps carnitine deficiency should be in the differential for refractory migraine. Supplementation with L-carnitine merits exploration as a nutraceutical treatment of chronic migraine. Our case suggests that there may be a dose-dependent response to L-carnitine.
We investigated cancer survivors' health-related quality of life (HRQOL), specific deficiencies related to underlying disease or treatment, and benefits of rehabilitation in a large variety of cancer entities.

Electronic patient-reported outcomes were performed as clinical routine procedures. Cancer survivors underwent a 3-week multidisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation. Twenty-one different cancer entities were analyzed separately before (T0) and by the end (T1) of rehabilitation. HRQOL, symptoms, and functions were assessed with EORTC-QLQ-C30 questionnaire, psychological distress with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

Four thousand four hundred one of 5912 rehabilitants were evaluable, having completed both questionnaires at T0 and T1. All function mean scores and HRQOL were lower than in Austrian normal population, while levels of anxiety, depression, and all symptom scores were higher. HRQOL was particularly low in lung, liver, and bladder cancerpatients. Maximum anxiety levels were observed in patients with breast and thyroid cancer patients, the highest levels of depression in liver and brain cancer patients. Fatigue was severe in patients with lung, liver, esophageal, bladder cancer, and myeloma patients. Mean scores were also high for pain and insomnia. In the group of all rehabilitants, a highly significant improvement of global HRQOL, anxiety, depression, and all function and symptom scores was observed at T1 (p < 0.001). We noted significant improvement of HRQOL, anxiety, depression, fatigue, emotional, social, role, and physical functions in each cancer entity with medium to large effect sizes. Other recorded symptoms were reduced in the majority of cancers.

Rehabilitation effectively improves psychological distress and HRQOL as a part of treatment for various cancers.
