Conclusions NASH will contribute to a significant clinical and economic burden in Hong Kong over the next two decades. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) with capacities of multidifferentiation, paracrine, and low immunogenicity have been widely used in tissue repair and regeneration. The primary objective of this research was to compare the effects of different injection therapies of BMSCs on the injured anal sphincters. Ninety-six Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 24 each) intravenous injection, local injection, sham operation, and normal control. For the first three groups, 25% removal of the anal sphincter complex was performed and 0.3-ml phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) (containing 107 green fluorescent protein-labeled allogeneic BMSCs) was given accordingly to the treatment group 24 h after operation for 7 consecutive days. The sham operation group was injected with 0.3-ml PBS only. All cases had undergone evaluation in the 1st, 7th, 14th, and 28th postoperative days. The rats were sacrificed on the 28th postoperative day, and the anal sphincters were dissected to be analyzed by morphological examination. At 14 days postoperatively, local injection of BMSC significantly improved the peak contraction pressure, electromyography amplitude, and frequency of the injured anal sphincter compared with tail vein, but there was no significant difference in resting pressure until 28 days after sphincterectomy. Masson staining results confirmed that the local injection group had significantly more new muscles on the wound. BMSC could remarkably improve peak contraction pressure, electromyography amplitude, and muscle fibers on the wound, and local injection is superior to intravenous injection.The aim of this study was to compare the arterial vascularization of the pelvic limb between southern caracara (Caracara plancus) and great egret (Ardea alba) by dissection and radiographic examinations. Five specimens of caracaras (three males and two females), and seven great egrets (five males and two females) were used. Barium sulphate and latex suspension were injected into the left ventricle of the birds. The radiographs were taken with the pelvic limbs in the ventrodorsal, dorsoplantar, mediolateral and lateromedial recumbency. Thereafter, the material was fixed in a 10% solution of formaldehyde and dissected. The pelvic limb received its arterial supply from two main vessels, the ischiatic and external iliac arteries. The ischiatic artery presented to be the principal artery of pelvic limb in the caracara and great egret. Several branches arised from the ischiatic and external iliac arteries were described. No gender differences were observed in both species. The caracara and great egret showed arteries similar to those reported for the ostrich and domestic fowl. According to the results of this study, it is suggested that the caracara has a pelvic limb with more arterial branches and larger arterial diameter than the great egret, which is probably related to the specific behaviour of these birds, since the caracara is a bird that exercise more their pelvic limbs to capture its prey when compared with the great egret.Neuroticism is associated with heightened reactivity to social stressors. However, little is known about the micro-processes through which neuroticism shapes - and is shaped by - affective experiences in close relationships. We examine the extent to which momentary affect is coupled with one's relationship partner, whether the strength of this coupling differs depending on levels of neuroticism, and whether this coupling and partner's overall level of positive or negative affect prospectively contribute to differential (rank-order) changes in neuroticism. Older couples (N = 82, aged 67-93 years) rated their momentary affect six times per day for one week and provided ratings of trait neuroticism at baseline and 18 months later. Multilevel models revealed that among individuals high in neuroticism, individual positive affect was more closely coupled with partner positive affect compared with individuals low in neuroticism. Moreover, neuroticism decreased over time in those participants who showed a higher degree of coupling with partner positive affect and also had a partner with higher overall positive affect. In contrast, neuroticism increased in individuals whose partner had lower overall positive affect. Similar effects were not observed for negative affect. We investigated the impact of a change in payment methods on clinical activity and the quality of care provided. Design A difference-in-difference (DiD) evaluation was applied to clinical activity data from pilot NHS dental practices in Northern Ireland compared to matched control NHS practices and applied to a questionnaire survey of patient-rated outcomes of health outcomes and care quality. We estimated the impact on access to care, treatment activity levels, practice finances and patient-rated outcomes of care of a change from FFS to a capitation-based system for 1 year, as well as the impact of a reversion back to FFS at the end of the pilot period. Results The monthly number of registered patients in the pilot practices increased more than the control practices during the capitation period, by 1.
