The knockdown of GAS6-AS2 could greatly suppress the tumor growth of NSCLC in vivo. GAS6-AS2 up-regulated MAPK6 by sponging miR-144-3p in NSCLC tissues and cells. Thus, GAS6-AS2 is an effective therapeutic target in NSCLC.Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been identified as the leading cause of premature deaths in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), accounting for about 40 to 50% of all deaths. Macrophage inflammation is regarded as a key point to link to the two diseases. Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have acknowledged as a regulator of inflammation significantly. Here, we firstly found that lncRNA myocardial infarction associated transcript (lncRNA MIAT), a crucial lncRNA to regulate CVD, expressed increasingly in synovium and myocardial tissues of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice. Besides, we also verified that the increased infiltration of macrophage occurred in those tissues of the CIA. In vitro, we found that macrophage inflammation induced by LPS could up-regulate lncRNA MIAT expression. LncRNA MIAT seemed to inhibit the expression of IL-1β, TNF-ɑ and be suppressed by ATP-induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation pathway. Therefore, these data indicated an anti-inflammatory effect of lncRNA MIAT in macrophage and an original research direction for high cardiovascular risk in RA.Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is one of the most common fatal biliary tract tumors in the world. Its 3-year survival rate is 30% and the recurrence rate remains very high. miR-365 was downregulated in numerous tumors and worked as tumor suppressor gene. However, the role of miR-365 in GBC was unclear. In this study, our results found that the expression of miR-365 in GBC tissues was reduced rather than that in non-cancerous tissues. miR-365 overexpression inhibited the proliferation, metastasis and expansion of GBC CSCs. Mechanically, bioinformatic and luciferase reporter analysis identified Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1 (RAC1) as a direct target of miR-365. Overexpression of miR-365 in GBC cells reduced the RAC1 mRNA and protein expression. The special RAC1 inhibitor EHop-106 abolished the discrepancy of growth, metastasis and self-renewal ability between miR-365-overexpression GBC cells and their control cells, which further demonstrated that RAC1 was involved in miR-365-disrupted GBC cells growth, metastasis and self-renewal. More importantly, reduced expression of miR-365 was a predictor of poor prognosis of GBC patients. In conclusion, miR-365 inhibited GBC cell growth, metastasis and self-renewal capacity by directly targeting RAC1, and may therefore prove to be a novel prognosis biomarker for GBC patients.Purposes To evaluate the accuracy of Ophtha Top and consistency between Ophtha Top and IOLMaster 500 in intraocular lens refractive power calculation among cataract patients with normal and long axial lengths. Methods This study included cataract patients scheduled for phacoemulsification and IOL implantation surgery. The IOL power was calculated using Ophtha Top and IOLMaster 500 (integrated with SRK/T, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1 formula). The accuracy of IOL power calculation between Ophtha Top and IOLMaster 500 was compared. Bland-Altman plots were also used to assess agreement between Ophtha Top and IOLMaster 500. Results Ninety-four patients (94 eyes) were included. The mean values of the arithmetic and absolute prediction errors of Ophtha Top were -0.22 ± 0.62 D and 0.52 ± 0.40 D for whole sample. Absolute refractive error showed no significant difference between Ophtha Top and IOLMaster 500 using 3 traditional formulas in eyes with normal and long axial lengths. In normal eyes, mean and medium absolute error of Ophtha Top was 0.49D and 0.48D, which were comparable to that of IOLMaster 500 (Hoffer Q0.47D; 0.40D & Holladay 1 0.48D; 0.37D). Similar trend was found in long eyes (Ophtha Top0.58 D & IOLMaster using SRK/T0.53D). Conclusions Ophtha Top based on real ray-tracing method could provide predictable outcomes in all eyes, which was comparable to outcomes from IOLMaster 500 using SRK/T, Hoffer Q, Hollday 1 formula. Ophtha Top would be a promising alternative choice for IOL power calculation. Our aim was to analyze the association between anal human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and abnormal anal cytology in women with high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2+). We also analysed what other risk factors might be significant. We carried out a prevalence study from April 2015 to March 2017 at La Paz University Hospital. Genotyping of HPV, anal cytology and high-resolution anoscopy were performed. Of 171 patients recruited, 53 cases (31%) were diagnosed as histological CIN 2+ there were no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of anal HPV (OR = 0.8), nor the prevalence of abnormal anal cytology (OR = 2.15, 95% CI 0.8-5.7) compared to women with CIN 1 or no cervical dysplasia. Immunosuppression (OR = 2.51, 95% CI 1-6.3, p less then .05), cervical HPV (OR = 3.9, 95% CI 1.9-8.0, p less then .01) and being older than 40 years old (p less then .05) were also associated with anomalous anal results.Impact StatementWhat is already known on this subject? Anal HR-HPV and abnur findings improve the existing evidence on anal HPV infection and anal cytology on the least studied population at risk. Data could be useful for further research in order to clarify the role of anal screening in this population and standardise the clinical practice. The entry of multiple broken scalpel blades into the gastrointestinal tract with involvement of the stomach, ileum, and colon is rare; no such cases have been reported to date. Whether management of multiple sharp foreign bodies is more effective by endoscopy or surgery remains controversial in clinical practice. We herein describe a 23-year-old man with depression who was admitted to our department 36 hours after swallowing multiple scalpel blades. The patient reported abdominal pain and bloody vomit. A radiograph revealed irregular blade-shaped foreign bodies in the abdomen, and computed tomography confirmed foreign bodies in the stomach, mid-distal segment of the ileum, proximal segment of the ascending colon, liver area of the transverse colon, and lumen of the sigmoid colon. Surgery was immediately suggested as the first-choice treatment, but endoscopy was instead performed after a thorough multidisciplinary discussion. All broken scalpel blades were successfully removed with combined gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and the patient's postoperative recovery was uneventful. This case demonstrates the vital importance of multidisciplinary management and endoscopy as an appropriate treatment approach even for multiple sharp foreign bodies in patients without perforation or peritonitis. This paper investigates the possibility of the implementation of Genetic Programming (GP) algorithm on a publicly available COVID-19 data set, in order to obtain mathematical models which could be used for estimation of confirmed, deceased, and recovered cases and the estimation of epidemiology curve for specific countries, with a high number of cases, such as China, Italy, Spain, and USA and as well as on the global scale. The conducted investigation shows that the best mathematical models produced for estimating confirmed and deceased cases achieved R2 scores of 0.999, while the models developed for estimation of recovered cases achieved the R2 score of 0.998. The equations generated for confirmed, deceased, and recovered cases were combined in order to estimate the epidemiology curve of specific countries and on the global scale. The estimated epidemiology curve for each country obtained from these equations is almost identical to the real data contained within the data set.A consultation exercise was undertaken with UK embryologists to construct knowledge of the occupational health issues they experience in everyday practice. Data were obtained from 223 eligible survey responses. Work-related ill health was self-reported by 58.3% of respondents, 76.2% of whom reported multiple issues. The most frequently disclosed ill-health conditions were musculoskeletal disorders (45.3%) and stress and mental health problems (27.8%). Other issues with an incidence above 3% were ocular and auditory problems and needlestick and liquid nitrogen injuries. Shoulder injury or pain correspondingly increased in incidence with length of time in service. Absence from work and/or light duties were necessitated for 34.5% of those affected. Assessment of the evidence base for these work-related ill-health conditions explored contributory and ameliorating factors, which enabled a series of evidence-based recommendations to be formulated via the adoption of a GRADE-based framework.Granular cell tumors (GCTs) are rare submucosal neoplasms, with tumors in the oral mucosa accounting for about a third of all cases. In contrast, GCT is a rare anal neoplasm, with fewer than 30 cases of perianal GCT reported in the literature. We report the case of a 36-year-old woman with a perianal lump with no obvious local lesion as the main clinical complaint. The tumor was completely resected and histologically confirmed as a GCT. The patient remained under continuous follow-up. GCT is difficult for surgeons and pathologists to diagnose, and biopsy and immunohistochemical analysis are prerequisites for an accurate diagnosis. An integrated understanding of GCT in terms of its differential diagnosis will contribute to better identification and more appropriate treatment of this disease. The BD Odon Device™ was designed as an alternative to conventional methods for assisting vaginal delivery, especially in low-resource settings. This a systematic review of published data concerning the BD Odon Device™ until March 2020 listed in Pubmed, Google Scholar, SCOPUS and Web of Science.Five studies testing the device were found, three in models and two in women with uncomplicated deliveries. According to their results, the device seems easy to use, safe, effective and requires simple and fast training, so it may become a good alternative to vacuum extractor or forceps, especially in places where there is less specialised staff, low-resources settings. The study protocol of the first study in complicated second stages has already been published. There is still few information about the BD Odon Device™ in scientific literature, however more research concerning the device is expected to take place in a near future.Impact StatementWhat is already known on this subject? The Odon DeviceTM is a device under development that aims to be a useful tool to assist vaginal deliveries. What do the results of this study add? This is a review of the current state of the development of the Odon DeviceTM. Further tests in humans are planned in the future in order to evaluate its safety and efficacy. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? The Odon DeviceTM may be a promising tool to assist vaginal deliveries, especially in low-resource countries and countries with high rates of C-section during second stage of labour, but further research is needed to evaluate its safety and efficacy.
To determine if there is a relationship between the levels of serum uric acid and the different Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) stages (1-4) classified by the severity of the airflow limitation in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Electronic databases, including PubMed®, Embase®, Web of Science™ and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), were searched from inception to December 2018. Observational studies that reported serum uric acid levels in stable COPD patients were included. Selleck BLU-945 Two investigators independently extracted data and RevMan version 5.3 was used to carry out the statistical analyses.
Seven studies with 932 stable COPD patients and 401 healthy control subjects were included in this meta-analysis. Serum uric acid levels were significantly higher in stable COPD patients compared with healthy control subjects (mean difference [MD] 1.91, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.55, 2.28). Serum uric acid levels were significantly lower in the GOLD 1+2 subgroup compared with the GOLD 3+4 subgroup (MD -1.
