Polish physicians and researchers lack an extensive and precise instrument in their native language for evaluating sexual dysfunction in individuals with neurogenic disorders. The aim of this study was to create a culturally adapted, validated, Polish language version of the Multiple Sclerosis Intimacy and Sexuality Questionnaire (MSISQ-15) for persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) and spinal cord injury (SCI).

International recommendations and standardized methods for instrument validation were followed. Sexually active patients with MS and SCI completed the MSISQ-15, International Index of Erection Function (IIEF-15, men), and Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-31, women). IIEF-15 and PISQ-31 were used as reference questionnaires. Responses were collected at baseline (test) and after 2 weeks (re-test).

We recruited 299 Polish-speaking patients with MS or SCI. Interviews disclosed that the translated questionnaire had optimal content validity/cross-cultural adaptation. SCI individuals. The Polish MSISQ-15 will enhance routine clinical practice and assist research for neurogenic patients in Poland.
With the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic, pregnancy and childbirth for women are taking place in unusual circumstances. We explored the lived experiences of pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic to better understand their experience of pregnancy so that better support could be provided.

We used a descriptive phenomenological approach to understand the lived experience of pregnant women in COVID-19 pandemic. We collected data using a purposive sampling method through in-depth interviews in cyberspace with a semi-structured questionnaire. We used Colaizzi's seven-step content analysis method to analyze the research data with the help of MAXQDA software version 2020.

We conducted this descriptive phenomenology study on 19 pregnant women in a period between the 10th to the 20th of May, 2020. The participating women were already pregnant when the first signs of the epidemic appeared in the country and at the time of the interview. We acquired four themes including disruption of the tranquility and regular routines of daily life, new challenges caused by the epidemic, resilience and strength in facing the crisis, and adaptation with new conditions.

The pregnant women were under intense stress during the COVID-19 outbreak. The general mobilization the health system is necessary for alleviating pregnant women's difficulties in situations like the COVID-19 epidemic. Virtual training classes and virtual counseling may enhance the peace and tranquility of pregnant women.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play crucial and multifaceted roles in post-transcriptional regulation. While RBPs dysregulation is involved in tumorigenesis and progression, little is known about the role of RBPs in bladder cancer (BLCA) prognosis. This study aimed to establish a prognostic model based on the prognosis-related RBPs to predict the survival of BLCA patients.

We downloaded BLCA RNA sequence data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and identified RBPs differentially expressed between tumour and normal tissues. Then, functional enrichment analysis of these differentially expressed RBPs was conducted. Independent prognosis-associated RBPs were identified by univariable and multivariable Cox regression analyses to construct a risk score model. Subsequently, Kaplan-Meier and receiver operating characteristic curves were plotted to assess the performance of this prognostic model. Finally, a nomogram was established followed by the validation of its prognostic value and expression of the hub alidated the performance of a prognostic model for BLCA that might facilitate the development of new biomarkers for the prognostic assessment of BLCA patients.
Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug used in the treatment of ischemic stroke. Safety and efficacy of clopidogrel has been confirmed in CAPRIE, PRoFESS trials. However, these studies focused on patients aged less than 75 years. CYP2C19 polymorphisms resulted in individual differences in clopidogrel response. Our objective was to determine whether elderly stroke patients aged over 75 years would benefit from CYP2C19-genotype-guided strategy for the secondary prevention of stroke.

A retrospective analysis of patients aged 75 years or older with non-cardiogenic stroke who received 75 mg clopidogrel was performed. CYP2C19 genotype-guided group included noncarriers of CYP2C19*2 or CYP2C19*3 loss-of-function alleles (LoFA) and compared against the non-genotype-guided group which may carriers CYP2C19 LoFA or not. The primary endpoints were composite of stroke and myocardial infarction at 24 months' follow-up.

Two hundred one patients were included 99 in the genotype-guided group and 102 in the non-genotype-guided group. Kaplan-Meier(KM)analysis showed that CYP2C19 gene polymorphism was associated with the rate of the primary endpoints (P = 0.0031). The primary endpoints occurred in 13 patients (13.1%) in the genotype-guided group and in 30 patients (29.4%) in the non-genotype-guided group (hazard ratio(HR), 0.39; 95% confidence interval(CI), 0.20 to 0.75; p = 0.004). Cox regression analysis showed that CYP2C19 genotype-guided strategy was a protective factor for the primary endpoints (HR, 0.39; 95% CI0.20 to 0.74, P = 0.004).

The CYP2C19 genotype-guided strategy could reduce the occurrence of composite of stroke and myocardial infarction compared to a non-genotype-guided strategy for non-cardiogenic stroke patients aged 75 years or older who received clopidogrel.

The peak inspiratory pressure (PIP) is crucial in mechanical ventilation with supraglottic airway device (SAD). Pressure-controlled ventilation volume-guaranteed (PCV-VG), delivering a preset tidal volume with the lowest required airway pressure, is being increasingly used during general anesthesia. In this study, we compared respiratory mechanics and circulatory parameters between volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and PCV-VG in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery using the laryngeal mask airway supreme (LMA).

Eighty participants scheduled for laparoscopic surgery were enrolled in this prospective, randomized clinical trial. The participants were randomly assigned to receive VCV or PCV-VG. PIP, dynamic compliance (Cdyn) and mean inspiratory pressure (Pmean) were recorded at 5 min after induction of anesthesia (T1), 5 min after pneumoperitoneum(T2), 30 and 60 min after pneumoperitoneum (T3 and T4). Data including other respiratory variables, hemodynamic variables, and arterial blood gases wece.
Central venous catheters (CVCs) play an important role during cardiac surgery. Topical tissue adhesives form a thin film of coating that becomes bound to keratin in the epidermis. The advantage of this "super glue" lies in its antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to evaluate fixation of CVCs with topical tissue adhesive in patients (prone to bleed) undergoing cardiac surgery regarding its ability to reduce the incidence of pericatheter leakage.

This randomized controlled trial included 150 patients > 15 years of age who were (1) scheduled to undergo elective cardiac surgery, (2) required CVC insertion at the internal jugular vein, and (3) scheduled for transfer postoperatively to the cardiac intensive care unit. We randomly assigned patients to a topical tissue adhesive group (TA) or a standard control group (SC). The primary outcome was a change in dressing immediately postoperatively due to pericatheter blood oozing. Secondary outcomes were the number of dressings, total dressings per catheter da the SC group ([95% CI 0.07 to 0.87], P = 0.029) in the per-protocol analysis.

The use of a topical tissue adhesive can reduce the incidence of immediate postoperative pericatheter blood oozing.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease associated with multiple comorbidities and substantially diminishes patients' quality of life. The gut microbiome has become a hot topic in psoriasis as it has been shown to affect both allergy and autoimmunity diseases in recent studies. Our objective was to identify differences in the fecal microbial composition of patients with psoriasis compared with healthy individuals to unravel the microbiota profiling in this autoimmune disease.

We collected fecal samples from 30 psoriasis patients and 30 healthy controls, sequenced them by 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing, and identified the gut microbial composition using bioinformatic analyses including Quantitative Insights into Microbial Ecology (QIIME) and Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States (PICRUSt). Our results showed that different relative abundance of certain bacterial taxa between psoriasis patients and healthy individuals, including Faecalibacterium and Megamonaota are the cause or consequences of psoriasis and whether the relationship between gut microbiota and cytokines was involved.
We concluded that the gut microbiome composition in psoriasis patients has been altered markedly and provides evidence to understand the relationship between gut microbiota and psoriasis. More mechanistic experiments are needed to determine whether the differences observed in gut microbiota are the cause or consequences of psoriasis and whether the relationship between gut microbiota and cytokines was involved.
Anthrax and smallpox are high-risk infectious diseases, and considered as potential agents for bioterrorism. To develop an effective countermeasure for these diseases, we constructed a bivalent vaccine against both anthrax and smallpox by integrating a gene encoding protective antigen (PA) of Bacillus anthracis to the genome of the attenuated vaccinia virus strain, KVAC103.

Immunization with this bivalent vaccine induced antibodies against both PA and vaccinia virus in a mouse model. We also observed that the efficacy of this vaccine can be enhanced by combined immunization with immunoadjuvant-expressing KVAC103. Mouse groups co-immunized with PA-expressing KVAC103 and either interleukin-15 (IL-15) or cholera toxin subunit A (CTA1)-expressing KVAC103 showed increased anti-PA IgG titer and survival rate against B. anthracis spore challenge compared to the group immunized with PA-expressing KVAC103 alone.

We demonstrated that the attenuated smallpox vaccine KVAC103 is an available platform for a multivalent vaccine and co-immunization of immunoadjuvants can improve vaccine performance.
