Albums

Toto's discography includes 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also compilations. Toto has released original music as well as collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.

Before Toto was formed, members of the band did sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all performed on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 in the wake of the collaboration.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their previous albums and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985, the group's lead singer Fergie Fredericksen resigned The band held auditions to find a replacement frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their 1986 album Fahrenheit.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering demos and tapes from the past to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well received by fans and the band embarked on a tour featuring former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In the year 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included tour recordings and also an interview with the group.

Toto is an American rock band that was formed in 1977 in Van Nuys, Greater Los Angeles. The group is comprised of six members: guitarist/vocalist Steve Lukather, bassist David Paich and keyboardist/vocalist Steve Porcaro, drummer Jeff Porcaro, and guitarist/vocalist Joseph Williams. The diverse mix of influences within the group makes it one of the most well-known groups of all time. The band's music was featured in more than 200 movies and television shows including The Godfather & The Prince of Egypt.

Toto has released a variety of music videos. The group has also released numerous compilation videos and DVDs. The most popular video of the band is "Africa", with over one billion views. The video takes place in a library, and shows the band performing in front of a pile of books about Africa.

The track "Africa" is from the album Toto IV. The song was written by the band members and produced David Paich. It was a huge hit in Europe and other countries. The success of the single helped Toto regain their popularity following their previous album, Turn Back, failed to chart in the United States.

After the album's release, Toto went on a world tour. The group included touring musicians Lenny Castro, Shannon Forrest, Warren Ham and Shem von Schroeck. Steve Lukather also released his second solo album, Luke.

Prior to and during the creation of Toto, its members did session work for many artists. Drummer Jeff Porcaro and bassist David Hungate played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs which led to Toto's formation. Paich played keyboards on Steely Dan records, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

In 1998, Toto began working on a project titled Old Is New. This album included three new tracks, as well as a number of finished recordings of songs from the past. The album became a huge success and the band embarked on a tour to promote it.
