After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.

During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.

In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto was the first album released by toto in 1978. The album was a huge hit and helped propel the band to international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 albums which have all been hits.

Toto composed their first and sole film score in 1984 for the film Dune. It was a huge project and the entire group had to be involved. Kingdom of Desire was another hit album. After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped away from the stage. This gave each member of the band the opportunity to explore their individual projects. In 1996, the band returned to tour and release an album. This was the first time that all of the original members were on stage together for over a decade.

The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members were performing at the same time. The band broke up again after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all original Toto members appeared performing together for over 31 years. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto is among the most popular rock bands. They have had hits like "Rosanna," Hold The Line," and "Africa," which has been certified platinum 8X. With a variety of influences, from progressive rock to world rhythms to soul and jazz The group continues to delight fans with their energetic arena rock.
