It is the first attempt to compile oil yield, composition, and the biological activities of MFEO. In future, several scientific investigations are required to understand the mechanism of action of MFEO and their bioactive constituents.BACKGROUND Despite unprecedented speed in the execution of the COVID-19 vaccine and therapeutic clinical trials, pregnant patients have been largely excluded from initial studies. In addition, pregnant patients who are unvaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 have greater morbidity risk with severe COVID-19 disease as compared to patients of similar age and comorbidity status. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been deemed safe in pregnancy in other diseases. Prior data demonstrate the possible benefit of utilizing IVIG for the treatment in hospitalized patients with severe respiratory symptoms associated with COVID-19 active infections when administered within 14 days of COVID symptom onset. CASE REPORT We administered IVIG (Privigen®, CSL Behring) 0.5 g/kg daily for 3 consecutive days to 4 pregnant patients (ages 24-34 years of age) who were hospitalized with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 and not vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. All patients received concomitant glucocorticoid therapy. Gestational ages were 26, 17, 35, and 35 weeks. All patients were discharged home breathing room air after a mean hospital stay of 15 days. Two patients had uncomplicated cesarean section at 35 weeks during the hospitalization. The pre-term pregnancies at 17 and 26 weeks were intact at hospital discharge and resulted in normal vaginal deliveries at term. read more All 4 patients consented to participate in this case series report. CONCLUSIONS IVIG may be a safe treatment consideration in pregnant women with severe COVID-19 to avoid pregnancy complications. Its use warrants further study in pregnancy acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) due to SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and other respiratory viruses to which pregnant patients are vulnerable. The Amazon forest has the highest biodiversity on Earth. However, information on Amazonian vertebrate diversity is still deficient and scattered across the published, peer-reviewed, and gray literature and in unpublished raw data. Camera traps are an effective non-invasive method of surveying vertebrates, applicable to different scales of time and space. In this study, we organized and standardized camera trap records from different Amazon regions to compile the most extensive data set of inventories of mammal, bird, and reptile species ever assembled for the area. The complete data set comprises 154,123 records of 317 species (185 birds, 119 mammals, and 13 reptiles) gathered from surveys from the Amazonian portion of eight countries (Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela). The most frequently recorded species per taxa were mammals Cuniculus paca (11,907 records); birds Pauxi tuberosa (3713 records); and reptiles Tupinambis teguixin (716 records). The information detailed in this data paper opens up opportunities for new ecological studies at different spatial and temporal scales, allowing for a more accurate evaluation of the effects of habitat loss, fragmentation, climate change, and other human-mediated defaunation processes in one of the most important and threatened tropical environments in the world. The data set is not copyright restricted; please cite this data paper when using its data in publications and we also request that researchers and educators inform us of how they are using these data. This study investigated the mechanisms of migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and solute carrier family 3 member 2 (SLC3A2) in colorectal cancer progression. The levels of MIF and SLC3A2 expression in cells were measured by RT-qPCR. SW480 and SW620 cells were transfected with sh-MIF and sh-SLC3A2, respectively. MIF, SLC3A2, GPX4, E-cadherin and N-cadherin expression were detected by immunofluorescence (IF). CCK8 and Transwell assays were performed to detect cell proliferation and migration. Co-immunoprecipitation (CoIP) was used to measure the binding activity of MIF and SLC3A2. Finally, a nude mouse tumorigenicity assay was used to confirm the functions of MIF and SLC3A2 in colorectal cancer. Results showed that the levels of MIF and SLC3A2 expression were up-regulated in colorectal cancer cells. Inhibition of MIF or SLC3A2 expression prevented cell proliferation, migration, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and invasion. In addition, knockdown of MIF and SLC3A2 promoted iron death in SW480 and SW620 cells. CoIP results showed that MIF and SLC3A2 directly interact with each other. Knockdown of both MIF and SLC3A2 inhibited tumour growth and metastasis via the AKT/GSK-3β pathway in vivo. The Akt/GSK-3β pathway was found to participate in regulating MIF and SLC3A2 both in vivo and in vitro. MIF and SLC3A2 might be potential biomarkers for monitoring the treatment of colorectal cancer.Obesity, which has unknown pathogenesis, can increase the frequency and seriousness of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study evaluated effect of Huayu Qutan Recipe (HQR) pretreatment on myocardial apoptosis induced by AMI by regulating mitochondrial function via PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in rats with obesity. For in vivo experiments, 60 male rats were randomly divided into 6 groups sham group, AMI group, AMI (obese) group, 4.5, 9.0 and 18.0 g/kg/d HQR groups. The models fed on HQR with different concentrations for 2 weeks before AMI. For in vitro experiments, the cardiomyocytes line (H9c2) was used. Cells were pretreated with palmitic acid (PA) for 24 h, then to build hypoxia model followed by HQR-containing serum for 24 h. Related indicators were also detected. In vivo, HQR can lessen pathohistological damage and apoptosis after AMI. In addition, HQR improves blood fat levels, cardiac function, inflammatory factor, the balance of oxidation and antioxidation, as well as lessen infarction in rats with obesity after AMI. Meanwhile, HQR can diminish myocardial cell death by improving mitochondrial function via PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway activation. In vitro, HQR inhibited H9c2 cells apoptosis, improved mitochondrial function and activated the PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway, but effects can be peripeteiad by LY294002. Myocardial mitochondrial dysfunction occurs following AMI and can lead to myocardial apoptosis, which can be aggravated by obesity. HQR can relieve myocardial apoptosis by improving mitochondrial function via the PI3K/Akt/Bad pathway in rats with obesity.A fast and environment-friendly analytical method was implemented to determine multiclass pesticides in river sediments. Twenty-three pesticides-organochlorine pesticides, organophosphorus pesticides, and triazines-were extracted via matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) and analyzed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). Florisil demonstrated excellent analytes uptake capability as the extractant phase, with suitable selectivity for treating complex sediment samples. Under defined extraction conditions, the MSPD-GC-MS/MS method demonstrated robustness in the n inter-day analysis of sediments from different sources, providing limit of quantifications (LOQs) between 5 and 15 ng/g, linear responses in the range between LOQs and 150 ng/g, extraction recoveries of 71%-106%, and precision, assessed as relative standard deviation below 20%. The MSPD significantly reduced samples and solvents' consumption, providing critical environmental gains compared to traditional extraction methods like Soxhlet. Finally, the method was applied to analyze sediment samples from three different collection areas of the Subachoque River (Cundinamarca, Colombia), demonstrating a fast, efficient, confident, and profitable analytical tool for pollution control and monitoring in environmental samples. The method allowed us to determine the current use in Colombia of banned pesticides under the 2001 Stockholm Convention. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been going on around the world for more than a year and has cost a lot, as well as affected the quality of life of many. The psychological stress like delirium and sleep disturbances caused by the COVID-19 has affected many people in direct or indirect way by the disease. Insomnia and sleep deprivation have a negative effect on the immune system as well as disorders of the hormonal system, including the production and secretion of melatonin, known as the sleep hormone. Melatonin is a known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent in addition to its role in regulating circadian rhythms. In this review, we investigated the relationship between the effect of psychological stress caused by COVID-19 on patients, their families, health care workers, and occupations as well as how melatonin might act as a prophylactic agent with sedative effects and sleep enhancement potential. Search terms "melatonin" and "COVID-19" were manually searched on PubMed or other electronic database and relevant articles were included. Based on the review of scholarly articles, it can be inferred that melatonin, as an endogenous hormone controlling and regulating sleep and wakefulness in various researches, has a good potential due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory with minimal side effects. These beneficial effects highlight the impact of melatonin as an adjuvant and a potential alternative for the better management of SARS-CoV-2 infection in high-risk populations.
Registries are considered valuable data sources for identification of pediatric conditions treated with growth hormone (GH), and their follow-up. Currently, there is no systematic literature review on the scope and characteristics of pediatric GH registries. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic review is to identify worldwide registries reported on pediatric GH treatment and to provide a summary of their main characteristics.
Pediatric GH registries were identified through a systematic literature review. The search was performed on all related literature published up to January 30th, 2021. Basic information on pediatric GH registries, their type and scope, purpose, sources of data, target conditions, reported outcomes, and important variables were analyzed and presented.
Twenty two articles, reporting on 20 pediatric GH registries, were included in this review. Industrial funding was the most common funding source. The main target conditions included in the pediatric GH registries were growth hormone deficiency, Turner syndrome, Prader Willi syndrome, small for gestational age, idiopathic short stature, and chronic renal insufficiency. The main objectives inestablishing and running pediatric GH registries were assessing the safety and effectiveness of the treatment, describing the epidemiological aspects of target growth conditions and populations, serving public health surveillance, predicting and measuring treatment outcomes, exploring new and useful aspects of GH treatment, and improving the quality of patient care.
This systematic review provides a global perspective on pediatric GH registries which can be used as a basis for the design and development of new GH registry systems at both national and international levels.
