Galanin is a neuropeptide which has effects not only on metabolic syndrome but also on reproduction. Glypican-4 is an adipokine associated with insulin sensitivity by interacting directly with the insulin receptor. This study evaluated serum concentrations of galanin and glypican-4 in relation with the hormonal profile as well as metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with and without polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
A total of 44 women with PCOS and 44 age-matched controls were eligible. Hirsutism scores, hormonal profile, metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors as well as galanin and glypican-4 levels were evaluated in each subject.
Women with PCOS exhibited lower levels of galanin (20.2 pg/mL versus 26.4 pg/mL, p = 0.002) and higher concentrations of glypican-4 (3.1 ng/mL versus 2.6 ng/mL, p < 0.001) than controls. Both adipokines were correlated positively with body mass index (BMI), insulin, triglyceride and Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) index; glypican-4 also showed posiogenesis of PCOS, in which metabolic cardiovascular risks are increased.

This cross-sectional study involved 156 Chinese male subjects, aged 18-45 years, who visited the First Hospital of Qinhuangdao (Hebei, China) in 2014 for annual health check-up. Participants were categorized into low (VFA < 75.57 cm
), medium (75.57 cm
≤ VFA<100.37 cm
), and high (VFA ≥ 100.37 cm
) (n = 52/group). We estimated VFA and plasma H
S levels by using bioelectrical impedance analysis and a fluorescence probe-based approach, respectively. The associations of H
S with VFA and obesity anthropometric measures were assessed.
In the high VFA group, the body mass index (BMI, 30.4 ± 2.45 kg/m
), total body fat (TBF, 27.9 ± 3.23 kg), plasma H
S (3.5 µmol/L), free fatty acid (FFA, 0.6 ± 0.24 mmol/L), triglyceride (TG, 2.0 mmol/L), and total cholesterol (TC, 5.5 ± 1.02 mmol/L) levels were significantly higher than that of those of the low and medium VFA groups, respectively (
< 0.05). Plasma H
S levels were found to be inversely correlated with VFA, TBF, waist circumference, BMI, FFA, LnFINS, LnHOMA-IR, LnTG, TC, and LDL-C (
< 0.05). Multiple backward stepwise regression analysis revealed an inverse correlation of plasma H
S levels with FFA (β = -0.214,
= 0.005) and VFA (β = -0.429,
< 0.001), independent of adiposity measures and other confounding factors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the heterogeneity of the association between glycemic variability and oxidative stress markers in T1DM patients under daily life insulin treatment.
We studied, in a cross-sectional analysis, 76 T1DM patients without clinical chronic diabetes complications and 22 healthy individuals. Were evaluated the short-term glycemic variability (STGV), long-term glycemic variability (LTGV), oxidative stress markers [8-isoprostaglandin-F2α (Ur-8-iso-PGF2α), nitric oxide (NO), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and erythrocytes reduced/oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG)] and biochemical dosages (glycaemia, HbA1c, lipidogram, albuminuria).
Plasmatic NO was positively associated with LTGV (last year average of HbA1c) (8.7 ± 1.6% or 71 ± 18 mmol) (rS 0.278; p 0.042). Plasmatic TBARS, erythrocytes GSH/GSSH and Ur-8-iso-PGF-2α didn't show correlation with glycemic variability. GSH/GSSG was inversely correlated with LDL-cholesterol (rS - 0.417; p 0.047) and triglycerides (rS -0.521; p 0.013). Albuminuria was positive correlated with age (rS 0.340; p 0.002), plasmatic NO (rS 0.267; p 0.049) and TBARS (rS 0.327; p 0.015).

The monotony of the diet due to the limited range of recommended foods and dishes negatively affects both the effectiveness of the treatment of gluten intolerance, and the provision of the body with essential and replaceable nutrients. The aim of this study was to determine the selenium content in the flour of gluten-free crops (rice, corn, buckwheat and amaranth), their mixtures, as well as in dishes (pancakes) from a mixture of amaranth and buckwheat flours. Material and methods. The following raw materials were used in the study amaranth flour, unboiled buckwheat groats, whole grain rice flour and corn flour. By mixing the components in a laboratory mixer, dry gluten-free compositions were obtained a mixture of amaranth flour and flour from native buckwheat; a mixture of amaranth and rice flour and a mixture of amaranth and corn flour content in pancakes made from mixtures of amaranth flour and native buckwheat flour varied from 290 to 326 μg/kg. The calculation showed that the consumption of a portion of pancakes (50 g) by school-age children will satisfy their daily requirement for selenium by 7.3-8.1%. Conclusion. This fact determines the expediency of targeted correction of disorders of the balance of pro- and antioxidant systems in blood and tissues caused by intense physical training. The aim of the work was to study the effect of vitamin-mineral complex on the parameters of oxidative blood metabolism in professional athletes. Material and methods. The prospective study included 74 professional athletes representing cyclic sports and randomized into 2 groups the main group (n=42), who personalized received one of two vitamin-mineral complexes (with different concentrations of antioxidants), and a control group (n=32), who received a placebo. When writing the review, a search has been carried out for the original articles presented in PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar databases, eLIBRARY.RU and CyberLeninka platforms, with a randomized controlled crossover or parallel design, in which the use of curcumin administered before and / or after exercise was compared with placebo. No filters were applied by type of exercise performed, gender or age of participants. Results. In randomized controlled trials conducted for 2008-2020, evidences were obtained that the use of complexes containing curcumin normalizes the general antioxidant status, restores quality, quantity and functional-metabolic status of immunocytes.
