Median follow-up was 61.8months. The 5‑year biochemical relapse-free survival (bRFS) was 85.4% for all patients and 93.3, 87.4, and 79.4% for low-, intermediate-, and high-risk disease, respectively. The 5‑year prostate cancer-specific survival (PSS) was 94.8% for all patients and 98.7, 98.9, 89.3% for low-, intermediate-, and high-risk disease, respectively. While other internal medicine specialties are progressively focused on specific organ systems or diseases, rotations of residents into the intensive care unit (ICU) or the emergency department (ED) are an important part of their training in general internal medicine. Here they can acquire many of the diagnostic and therapeutic skills required in their curriculum. All internal medicine residents in Germany therefore must complete at least a 6 month rotation in the ICU and the ED. For training programs in general internal medicine, the German Society for Medical Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internistische Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin) asks the German State Medical Councils to accept rotations in the ICU and the ED for 15 months each. After adding an ICU or ED fellowship, these internists would be ideally qualified for much needed attending and leadership positions in the ICUs and EDs and would have a better perspective for a scientific career in these fields. In addition, ICU and ED fellowships of internists from other specialties should be supported.
This study explored the transition to practice experiences of new graduate nurses and the effects of their education on their readiness to practice.

This phenomenological study used two focus groups to gain an in-depth understanding of the lived experiences of these graduate nurses during their first year of practice, their perceptions of the effectiveness of their academic experience in preparing them for professional nursing practice, and clinical agency support.

Three themes emerged from the focus group analysis Practice Readiness, Work-Related Environmental Influences, and Being a Nurse.

This study provides insight into the key issues surrounding the transition process experienced by new nurses and suggests ways to educate and successfully transition them into professional practice. Information gained from this study provides a beginning evidence base for other educators in both the academic and clinical settings interested in supporting successful transition to practice for new graduate nurses. Preceptor selection criteria based on demographic data has been shown to yield inconsistent degrees of success in the role. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to determine if preceptors with different levels of innovativeness identified different benefits and challenges when implementing the preceptor role.

A mixed-methods study was conducted using online surveys to determine each participants' individual level of innovativeness. Interviews were conducted with preceptors from each innovator category to identify benefits and challenges in implementing the preceptor role.

Preceptors who scored lower in innovativeness identified challenges that were not discussed by preceptors who scored higher in innovativeness. Conversely, preceptors who scored higher in innovativeness identified benefits that were not common to preceptors with lower levels of innovativeness.
