Women's activities for the treatment of mastitis: A new qualitative examine.
The present study evaluated an intervention designed to introduce University students as potential users of Johannesburg's cycle lanes.
A total of 393 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University of Johannesburg took part. Epigenetic Reader Domain chemical
Following cycling and safety training, participants undertook a 1.2 km supervised cycle ride between University of Johannesburg campuses using loaned bicycles. The evaluation of the intervention drew on quantitative and qualitative data collected using participant questionnaires; and fieldworkers' photographic and reflective accounts.
Perceived cycling competency improved following the intervention, though similar proportions of participants became more
less interested in bicycle ownership (7-8%). The physical effort entailed; and flaws in the design and maintenance of cycle lanes (that affected utility and safety) were the strongest themes emerging from the qualitative analyses.
The supervised cycle rides improved perceived cycling competency, but also enablm the qualitative analyses. Conclusions The supervised cycle rides improved perceived cycling competency, but also enabled participants to reappraise the potential benefits and desirability of bicycle ownership. The mental health of students at U.S. colleges and universities is rapidly deteriorating, and our counseling infrastructure struggles to meet rising demand. Given this reality, colleges must supplement reactive counseling services with preventive, campus-wide initiatives targeting root causes of distress, including loneliness and lack of social support. One promising innovation would be to provide basic training on listening and helping skills to all students so they can take turns reciprocally supporting each other. Self-disclosure and providing support both have strong mental health benefits. This would also increase social connection, which is likely to improve academics and retention. This paper reviews the benefits and limitations of teaching peer support skills to a large volume of students, which may enable colleges to deliver the social and emotional aspects of education that are critical to health and academics, yet often sorely missing. Many collegiate athletes use scooters and mopeds for transportation, and they are at greater risk for head injury without helmets. Objective Investigate college athletes' reasons for wearing/not wearing helmets while riding a scooter or moped. Participants, Methods 125 Division I athletes across five teams (two with helmet mandates) completed a cross sectional survey on rates and attitudes about helmet use on scooters or mopeds. Results Helmet use on mandated vs non-mandated teams was 100% vs 3.6% (OR 1141; 95% CI 56.97, 22,850). For the question, "if you do not wear a helmet, what might make you change your mind and wear one?", players most commonly wrote in a law or coaches' rule (57%). Conclusions A coach's rule is associated with a higher rate of helmet use in collegiate athletes, and athletes primarily report a rule or law as the reason they would wear a helmet on a scooter or moped.
The effects of environmental tobacco smoke is a risk factor for everyone, but more so for individuals living with asthma. Most studies have focused on youth and young adults as the vulnerable population affected by secondhand smoke with policies related to secondhand smoke enacted to lessen such exposure given the known negative health effects. Most individuals are aware that secondhand exposure to tobacco smoke is not healthy, yet there is a shortage of literature on the secondhand vapor associated with electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). Suggestions for nicotine, metals, and carcinogens in secondhand vapor are beginning to emerge in the literature but are still not common knowledge to the public. This study aims to look at the demographic differences among young adults (college students) with asthma and non-asthma concerning ENDS use. A secondary aim will also look at the difference in perceived health status and perception of harm in the relationship between asthma and ENDS use in these two popuies acknowledge the high levels of the addictive substance nicotine. Of great concern is the lack of knowledge that college students have regarding nicotine based on their perceptions and the increasing use of these devices in those individuals with underlying respiratory conditions.
Disordered eating behaviors are prevalent among college-age individuals. Issues of control (e.g., perceptions of control; desire for control) are often salient for these individuals. Concerns regarding control can be exacerbated during transitions. The current study examined the extent to which disordered eating behaviors in college were predicted by locus of control, desire for control, and their interaction. We also explored whether these associations might be impacted by student life transitions (e.g., into/out of college).
A sample of 156 college students (72% women) was surveyed.
Both locus of and desire for control were predictive of disordered eating, but hypothesized moderations among locus of control, desire for control, and life transitions were primarily not supported.
Issues surrounding perceptions of control are important for disordered eating treatments or prevention programs, while more research is needed on the role life transitions may play in exacerbating risk.
