This review summarizes recent research performed on nanocarriers in in vivo and in vitro models and the synergistic anticancer effects of nanocarriers, focusing on the interaction between NPs and the body, resulting in enhanced efficacy and immune activation. Furthermore, this review describes the current trend of NPs used in the treatment of CRC.
Oral squamous cell carcinoma
OSCC) is the predominant type of oral cancer. Its incidence is high in certain geographic regions, and it is correlated with chewing tobacco. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), induced by tobacco carcinogens, is overexpressed in OSCC, leading to poor prognosis. Thus, EGFR inhibitors are promising agents against OSCC. High cost and toxicity of existing EGFR inhibitors necessitate alternative EGFR-targeted therapy. Here, we tested the antitumor potential of ethyl acetate fraction of an ethnomedicinal tree,
stem bark extract (OIEA) in a 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4NQO)-induced oral carcinogenesis model.

radical scavenging activities were measured. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of OIEA was done to identify the constituent active compounds. One strategy to address these disparities is to educate future healthcare professionals to provide nondiscriminatory care to LGBT people. The goal of this study was to explore the perceived coverage of LGBT health education topics in graduate-level medical (MD), pharmacy (PharmD) and nursing (DNP) curricula. Cross-sectional data were collected from web-based surveys (N = 733) completed by healthcare professional students enrolled at two universities in New York State. Of those who responded, 50.5% were MD, 38.9% were PharmD, and 10.6% were DNP students. Overall, mean scores indicated a dearth of perceived LGBT health coverage. Results demonstrated variations in coverage by degree program. Findings highlight the need to develop educational curricula inclusive of topics concerning LGBT patient health. Adequately educating the next generation of healthcare professionals can further promote healthcare engagement among LGBT persons and improve pedagogical practices in healthcare professional education programs.The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening and prostate biopsy procedures. We sought to determine whether delayed screening and diagnostic workup of prostate cancer (PCa) was associated with increased subsequent rates of incident PCa and advanced PCa and whether the rates differed by race. We analyzed data from the Veterans Health Administration to assess the changes in the rates of PSA screening, prostate biopsy procedure, incident PCa, PCa with high-grade Gleason score, and incident metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) before and after January 2020. While the late pandemic mPCa rate among White Veterans was comparable to the pre-pandemic rate (5.4 pre-pandemic vs 5.2 late-pandemic, p = 0.67), we observed a significant increase in incident mPCa cases among Black Veterans in the late pandemic period (8.1 pre-pandemic vs 11.3 late-pandemic, p less then 0.001). Further investigation is warranted to fully understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer.Based on narratives shared by queer Iranian Americans, this essay explores the cultural construct of aberoo (saving face for family and community) as a form of queer familial relationality. This work extends theorizations of queer worldmaking and relationality into familial contexts, which are crucial elements of identity for many queer people of color around the globe. Focusing on Iranian Americans in particular, this study demonstrates the futility of "the closet" metaphor and how its inadequacies and oversimplifications fail to honor non-Western contexts and experiences. By contrast, understanding aberoo as a queer relationality in itself allows unique insight into queer identity formations beyond white normativities.Fusarium wilt of banana (FWB) is a serious soil-borne fungal disease. In the previous century, FWB already destroyed Gros Michel-based banana cultures in Central America, and currently, the disease threatens all major banana-producing regions of the world. gp91ds-tat The causal agents of these epidemics, however, are diverse. Gros Michel was infected by a wide range of Fusarium species, the so-called Race 1 strains, whereas the contemporary Cavendish-based cultures are affected by Fusarium odoratissimum, colloquially called Tropical Race 4 (TR4). TR4 was reported in Mozambique on two commercial banana farms in 2013, but no incursions were found outside the farm boundaries in 2015, suggesting that the disease was under control. Here we report the presence of TR4 outside of these farm boundaries. We obtained fungal samples from 13 banana plants in smallholder and roadside plantings at various locations throughout northern Mozambique. These samples tested positive for TR4 by molecular diagnostics and in greenhouse pathogenicity assays. The results were confirmed with re-isolations, thereby completing Koch's postulate. To study the diversity of TR4 isolates in Mozambique, we selected five samples for whole-genome sequencing. Comparison with a global collection of TR4 samples revealed very little genetic variation, indicating that the fungus is clonally spreading in Mozambique. Furthermore, isolates from Mozambique are clearly genetically separated from other geographic incursions, and thus we cannot trace the origin of TR4 in Mozambique. Nevertheless, our data demonstrate the dissemination of TR4 in Mozambique, underscoring the failure of disease management strategies. This threatens African banana production.Nanfeng tangerine (Citrus reticulata Blanco) is highly regarded for its nutritional and economic value. In January 2022, an unknown fruit rot was observed on Nanfeng tangerine fruits harvested from Nanfeng County (27.22 °N, 116.53 °E), Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province after 70 days in storage (25 °C, 90% relative humidity). The disease mostly started from the pedicel or a wound. Symptoms initiated with dark brown lesions that rapidly expanded between the fruit center and pulp capsule causing total fruit rot. The surface of symptomatic fruit was sterilized with 75% ethanol for 30 s and 2% NaClO for 30 s. Small diseased tissue pieces (2 mm2) between diseased and healthy tissues were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and put in an incubator (25 ± 1 °C) for 3 days. The representative isolate NFMJ-1 was subcultured onto PDA using single-spore purification. Colonies on PDA were light yellow to white, with abundant flocculent aerial hyphae. Microconidia were oval, obovoid to allantoid, 0 septate, occasionally 1 septted from the wound-inoculated fruits and identified as F. concentricum by morphological and molecular analysis, completing Koch's postulates. F. concentricum has been reported as a pathogen of Podocarpus macrophyllus (Dong et al. 2022), Capsicum annuum (Wang et al. 2013) and Zea mays (Du et al. 2020) in China. This is the first report of fruit rot caused by F. concentricum on Citrus reticulata in China. Appropriate prevention and control measure of the pathogen need to be developed to preserve marketability of this economically important citrus fruit.Goldthread (Coptis chinensis Franch) is one of the most widely used Chinese traditional medicine plants with remarkable medicinal properties (Mizrahi et al. 2014). In July 2019, a new anthracnose-like leaf spot disease was observed in Banqiao Town, Enshi, Hubei, China. The incidence rate ranged from 10% to 20%. Infected leaves firstly showed oil-like dots, further gradually expanded to irregular whorls with a pale center and dark-brown edge. Petiole infection led to leaves dropping when severe occurrence. Black acervuli were developed on the infected leaves with abundant setae, especially near veins. To identify the causal agent, 4-mm2 tissues were derived from the disease-health junction and surface-disinfected with 0.1% mercury dichloride for 1 min and 75% ethanol for 30 s respectively. They were placed on a PDA plate and incubated at 25°C after being rinsed with sterile water three times. Isolates were purified by single spore isolation. Colonies on PDA were white to pale-gray with dense aerial mycelia, an0% re-isolation frequency. These results fulfilled Koch's postulates. In a previous study, C. boninense was identified as the causal agent of goldthread anthracnose in Chongqing, China (Ding et al. 2020). To our knowledge, this study is the first report of anthracnose on goldthread caused by C. jinshuiense in China.This article explores the contribution agent-based modeling (ABM) can make to the study of LGBTQ workplace inequalities and, conversely, how ABM can adapt to theoretical traditions integral to LGBTQ studies. It introduces an example LGBTQ workplace model, developed as part of the CILIA-LGBTQI+ project, to illustrate how ABM complements existing methods, can address methodological binarism and bridge macro and micro accounts within LGBTQ studies of the workplace. The model is intended as an important starting point in developing the role of ABM in LGBTQ research and for bridging qualitative- and quantitative-derived insights. Likewise, the article discusses some approaches for negotiating theoretical and methodological tensions identified when integrating queer and intersectional insight with ABM.The concurrent installation of C-C and C-N bonds across alkene frameworks represents a powerful tool to prepare motifs that are ubiquitous in pharmaceuticals and bioactive compounds. To construct such prevalent bonds, most alkene difunctionalization methods demand the use of precious metals or activated alkenes. We report a metal-free, photochemically mediated imino-alkylation of electronically diverse alkenes to install both alkyl and iminyl groups in a highly efficient manner. The exceptionally mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, and facile one-pot reaction protocol highlight the utility of this method to prepare privileged motifs from readily available alkene and acid feedstocks. One key and striking feature of this transformation is that an electrophilic trifluoromethyl radical is equally efficient with both electron-deficient and electron-rich alkenes. Additionally, dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) and empirical investigations provide detailed mechanistic insight into this reaction.Risk factors for low back pain (LBP) flares have been considered about self-reported measures. This case-crossover study aimed to investigate whether (1) objective measures of physical activity and sleep were associated with the risk of experiencing LBP flares and (2) these associations differed for flares defined as pain 2 or more points greater than average pain over the period using an 11-point Numerical rating scale (0-no pain and 10-worst pain imaginable) (pain-defined flare PDF) and flares identified by participants according to a broader definition that considered emotions or coping (self-reported flare [SRF]). We included 126 participants who had experienced LBP for >3 months. Physical activity and sleep were monitored for 28 days using wearable sensors. Occurrence of flares (PDF or SRF) was assessed daily using a smartphone application. Data on exposure to risk factors 1, 2, and 3 days preceding PDF or SRF were compared with nonflare control periods. Conditional logistic regression determined association between each factor and flares.
