The purpose of this study was to quantify the growth and trends in postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residencies.
Summaries of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Resident Matching Program from 2008 to 2021 were obtained. Only standalone PGY2 residencies were included in the analysis. Descriptive analyses were completed for data related to the programs and positions.
From 2008 to 2021, the total number of ASHP-accredited PGY2 programs increased from 282 to 1,131 (301%) and the overall number of unfilled positions decreased from 22% (77 of 351) to 2% (34 of 1,492). The percentage of positions filled early increased from 23% (81 of 351) to 40% (594 of 1,492) during this time. In 2021, programs with a clinical focus accounted for 91.6% of total positions. The Ambulatory Care category accounted for the largest percentage of all PGY2 residency positions, at 19.2% (287 of 1,492) in 2021 compared to 12.8% (45 of 351) in 2008. The total share of PGY2 residency positions in the Critical Care category decreased from 22.8% (80 of 351) in 2008 to 13.7% (205 of 1,492) in 2021; however, the share of PGY2 residency positions in the Emergency Medicine category increased from 1.4% (5 of 351) to 5.9% (88 of 1,492).

However, there was no further research to study the pathogenesis correlation between PD and thyroid diseases. In this study, except for investigating the difference in thyroid hormone between PD and the control group, we explored genetic correlation between thyroid and PD. We tried to find their shared molecular pathway by analyzing the effect of PD risk genes on thyroid function. Interestingly, most of those 12 meaningful SNPs we found could affect PD and thyroid function through immune mechanism, which is consistent with our original conjecture and provides significant evidence for the immune pathogenesis of PD.The intense nature of pig production has increased the animals' exposure to stressful conditions, which may be detrimental to their welfare and productivity. Some of the most common sources of stress in pigs are extreme thermal conditions (thermal stress), density and mixing during housing (social stress), or exposure to pathogens and other microorganisms that may challenge their immune system (immune-related stress). The stress response can be monitored based on the animals' coping mechanisms, as a result of specific environmental, social, and health conditions. These animal-based indicators may support decision making to maintain animal welfare and productivity. The present study aimed to systematically review animal-based indicators of social, thermal, and immune-related stresses in farmed pigs, and the methods used to monitor them. Dental mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are potential for use in tissue regeneration in inflammatory diseases due to their rapid proliferating, multilineage differentiation, and strong anti-inflammatory features. In the present study, immunoregulatory and glandular tissue regeneration effects of the dental follicle (DF)MSCs in Sjögren's Syndrome (SS) were investigated.
Dental follicle (DF) tissues were obtained from healthy individuals during tooth extraction, tissues were digested enzymatically and DFMSCs were cultured until the third passage. DFMSCs were labeled with Quantum dot 655 for cell tracking analysis. The induction of the SS mouse model was performed by the injection of Ro60-273-289 peptide intraperitoneally. DFMSCs were injected intraperitoneally, or into submandibular, or lacrimal glands. Splenocytes were analyzed for intracellular cytokine (IFN-γ, IL-17, IL-10) secretion in T helper cells, lymphocyte proliferation, and B lymphocyte subsets. Histologic analysis was done for submandibular and laceficial therapeutic application for SS.
Cardiovascular Health (CVH) scores are inversely associated with prevalent subclinical (SubDz) and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the majority of people who develop CVD have intermediate or ideal CVH scores, while many with poor CVH profiles escape CVD development.

7,627 participants (mean age 49 years, 53% women) attending Offspring examinations 6/7 and Third Generation examinations 1/2.
CVH score (range 0-14) constructed from poor, intermediate, or ideal status for each metric (smoking, diet, physical activity, blood pressure, body mass index, fasting glucose, total cholesterol); and prevalent SubDz (≥1 of increased carotid intimal media thickness, CIMT; left ventricular hypertrophy, LVH; microalbuminuria, MA; elevated ankle brachial index, ABI; coronary artery calcium score ≥100,CAC).
Ideal CVH (scores 12-14)r MA) to six-times (29% vs. 5% for CAC) greater among participants with SubDz versus without SubDz. Findings were consistent within age and sex strata.
Although poor CVH and SubDz presence are associated with CVD incidence, paradoxical phenomena involving CVH, SubDz, and CVD are frequently prevalent in the community. Further studies to elucidate biological mechanisms underlying these phenomena are warranted.

To help ensure that we were accurately and consistently evaluating applicants to our postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy residency program, we performed a job analysis to inform a redesign of our selection process.
A diverse panel of subject matter experts from our program was convened to develop a task inventory; a list of knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics necessary for success in our program; and behavioral snapshots representing especially strong or weak resident performance (ie, critical incidents). After achieving a priori thresholds of consensus, these items were used to augment our application screening instrument (eg, development of anchored rating scales), build an online supplemental application consisting of a personality test and situational judgment test, develop a work sample consisting of a patient case presentation, and enhance the structure of our interviews (eg, by asking a consistent pattern of questions for all candidates). Preceptors reported that the redesigned process was more organized, easier to complete, and facilitated greater rating consistency.

Based on our experiences, recommendations for those who are considering changes to their selection process are provided.Alexander disease is a primary genetic disorder of astrocytes caused by dominant mutations in the gene encoding glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). How single-amino-acid changes can lead to cytoskeletal catastrophe and brain degeneration remains poorly understood. In this study, we have analyzed 14 missense mutations located in the GFAP rod domain to investigate how these mutations affect in vitro filament assembly. Whereas the internal rod mutants assembled into filaments that were shorter than those of wild type, the rod end mutants formed structures with one or more of several atypical characteristics, including short filament length, irregular width, roughness of filament surface, and filament aggregation. When transduced into primary astrocytes, GFAP mutants with in vitro assembly defects usually formed cytoplasmic aggregates, which were more resistant to biochemical extraction. The resistance of GFAP to solubilization was also observed in brain tissues of patients with Alexander disease, in which a significant proportion of insoluble GFAP were accumulated in Rosenthal fiber fractions. These findings provide clinically relevant evidence that link GFAP assembly defects to disease pathology at the tissue level and suggest that altered filament assembly and properties as a result of GFAP mutation are critical initiating factors for the pathogenesis of Alexander disease.
Many older adults receive informal care from multiple caregivers, including support from a primary caregiver and a secondary caregiver network (SCN). This study examined the association between SCN support and primary caregiver burden, and whether the association varies across women and men, Black and White.
Data came from the 2015 National Health and Aging Trend Study and the National Study of Caregiving, including non-Hispanic White and Black men and women who were identified as primary caregivers (n = 967) and their secondary caregivers (n = 2,253). SCN support was indicated by (a) care domain overlap and (b) proportion of caregiving by SCN. Multiple regression models were estimated for the analyses.
Both SCN support variables were found to reduce primary caregiver burden, and the effect of proportion of caregiving by SCN was found to vary by gender-race groups. With the increase of the proportion of caregiving by SCN, both Black and White women caregivers tend to experience faster decrease in caregiver burden than Black men.
Our findings support the role of SCN in reducing primary caregiver burden and demonstrate that the benefit of SCN support varies across the 4 gender-race groups. The results indicate that it is imperative to further examine caregiving experience and protective mechanisms of SCN support using an intersectional perspective.
