Repeated studies found that the presence of a child with autism spectrum disorder in the family raises the psychological burden among other members, especially parents. This study was conducted to find the burden of depressive and anxiety disorders among the parents of children with Autism. This cross-sectional study was conducted at the department of Psychiatry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2016 to September 2017. A total of 227 parents of children with Autism attended at above mentioned centers were consecutively included. Data were collected through face to face interview using the questionnaire for socio-demographic variables, SCID-I CV and DASS-21 Bangla. Data were processed and analyzed using SPSS, version 17.0. The mean age of the respondents was 35.5±6.7 years; over half (54.2%) of the respondents were 30-40 years old; 62.1% were female; 37.0% were housewife. The overall 60.35% of care givers had either depressive and or anxiety disorders where 31.7% depressive disorder and 28.6% had anxiety disorders. Major depressive disorder was the most common specific diagnosis and depressive disorders were significantly higher in mother. Of the depressed parents, 11.0% had moderate, 8.4% severe and 6.2% extremely severe depression whereas in terms of anxiety disorders, 9.0% had moderate, 3.1% severe and 1.3% extremely severe anxiety. The study found about 60.0% of the care givers had at least one depressive or anxiety disorders which warrants the need for early psychological assessment as well as early intervention like psychological, familial and social support to improve the quality of life of the parents of Autism Spectrum Disorder children. The outcomes of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) vary internationally, given regional differences in patient co-morbidities, access to health care, interventional procedures and adherence to guideline-based management practices. This study aimed to identify the predictors of mortality from a large ACS registry of patients admitted to a tertiary care cardiac centre in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This was a hospital record based retrospective cross sectional observational study that included all patients presenting with ACS to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2013 to December 2013. Data were collected from cardiac catheterization laboratory database and hospital discharge records. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16.0. A p value 50 years odds ratio (OR) 2.56, p=0.005, chronic kidney disease (CKD) (OR 2.1, p less then 0.001), shock (OR 16.82, p less then 0.001), left ventricular failure (LVF) (OR 2.43, p less then 0.001) and STEMI (OR 1.92, p=0.002) were independent predictors of mortality among ACS patients. Although diabetes per se was not associated with mortality (OR 1.3; 95% CI=0.89-1.91; p=0.169), uncontrolled diabetes defined as HbA1c levels ≥7.5% had significant risk of mortality (OR 51.4, p less then 0.001). ACS patients who did not undergo angiography (OR 16.4; p less then 0.001) or PCI (OR 18.9; p less then 0.001) had greater risk of mortality. ACS patients complicated with shock, LVF, uncontrolled diabetes and CKD had increased risk of in-hospital mortality. MYCi975 cell line Improved outcomes may be likely with prompt angiography and PCI during index admission. This study is a preliminary initiative, and prospective multi-centre registries with nation-wide involvement are warranted.Avascular necrosis (AVN) of femoral head is an increasingly common cause of musculoskeletal disability. Most of the cases caused by steroid induced and traumatic but idiopathic cause are not also uncommon. Almost all the patients presented with pain at the hip, limping gait, restricted movement and difficulty in waking and squatting and becomes disabled. Core decompression and muscle pedicle bone graft at stage IIA, IIB and III provides painless and mobile life. Core decompression supplemented with bone graft to enhance mechanical support and augment healing. We have started a prospective study for the treatment of AVN of Femoral head at stage IIA, IIB and III by core decompression and Tensor fascia lata muscle pedicle bone graft in the department of Orthopaedic surgery Bangabandhu Seikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2009 to December 2019. Aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of core decompression and tensor fascia lata muscle pedicle bone graft in the treatment HS 80-90), 7(10.78%) was fair outcome (HHS 70-79) and 4(6.15%) was poor outcome. For valid statistical analysis excellent and good results were grouped as satisfactory that was 54(83.07%) and fair and poor results were grouped as unsatisfactory that was11(16.93%), p value is less then 0.001 that is significant. It has been concluded that core decompression and TFL muscle pedicle bone graft is a pain relieving, head preserving procedure and improve hip function for the management of AVN of femoral head in stage IIA, IIB and III.Ovarian cancer is considered as one of the foremost gynecological malignancies due to its complex nature, unpredictable behavior and prognosis. Therefore, varying therapeutic strategies are necessitating an accurate diagnosis of this cancer. This study aimed to observe the frequency, age distribution, clinical presentation, gross features and histopathological pattern of the ovarian tumors among the Bangladeshi population. This cross-sectional observational study included 125 participants who were admitted in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) with histologically proven ovarian cancer from January 2016 to December 2017. The epidemiological data and histopathological analysis of the ovarian cancer were performed. Among the 125 participants examined, the majority were in two age groups between 21-30 and 41-50 years. Histologically, serous adenocarcinoma (50.4%) was the commonest, least common being endometroid variety (0.8%). Furthermore, 40.1% of participants were presented with stage iii disease. Abdominal distention followed by abdominal pain was the main presenting complains. Adenocarcinoma is mostly serous in variety and higher in younger age group. The objective of study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of topical 0.2% Glyceryl trinitrate topical (GTN) ointment in the treatment of chronic anal fissure. This randomized control trial was carried out in the Colorectal Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Bangladesh from May 2015 to April 2016. Total 94 patients were included in this trial, where 47(50.0%) patients were treated by 0.2% GTN ointment as Trial group 12 hourly for 8 weeks and 47(50.0%) patients by lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) as Control group in this study. Patients were randomized in two groups by lottery following purposive sampling. Post-procedural outcome variables with 6 months follow up were evaluated. Majority of the patients were found in between 20 to 40 years of age in both groups. The mean age was 34.6±10.4 years and 33.2±8.6 years in GTN and LIS respectively. Overall male female ratio was 0.881. All (100.0%) patients presented with pain in anus and 86.15% patients pree and recurrence were significantly higher in GTN group 61.7% and 34.04% with p less then 0.001. Lateral internal anal sphincterotomy is superior to the topical application of 0.2% nitroglycerin ointment in the treatment of chronic anal fissure with the advantages of good symptomatic relief, high rate of healing and a very low rate of transient continence disturbances. It is obvious that the urban population was blessed with all the modern health facilities the country could afford and side by side rapid urbanization leads to the development of slum areas throughout the city. Though the slum dwellers are part of the urban population their accessibility and utilization of health services are beyond imagination. This study was conducted to assess the utilization of antenatal care (ANC) services by urban slum women. A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out among purposively selected 325 women, who experienced at least a live birth in the last 3 years and habitat of Korail and Ershadnogor slums of Dhaka from July 2018 to December 2018. The mean age of the participants was 24.7±5.2 years with 70.5% literacy rate and 65.8% were homemakers. About two-thirds (62.5%) of women experienced their 1st delivery between 17-21 years of age. Throughout pregnancy, 71.1% received antenatal checkups and among them, 66.1% took ANC ≥4 times. Half (51.7%) of deliveries were conducted at home. There was a significant association between ANC visits with the place of the last delivery (p less then 0.001) and a significant association between the number of ANC visits at the place of the last delivery (p=0.019). Study shows the inadequate utilization of ANC services by slum woman in contrast to urban residents. So, it is obvious that the available healthcare services need to recast for the slum habitats which should be need-based and address their drawbacks to all.Meningitis literally means inflammation of the meninges. It is mostly caused by bacteria, virus, fungus and protozoa and pyogenic meningitis constitutes a serious neurological disorder associated with significant morbidity and mortality in developing countries. This study was carried out to evaluate the clinical presentation and immediate outcome of pyogenic meningitis in children. This was a prospective observational study and conducted at department of Paeditrics in Cumilla Medical College Hospital, Cumilla, Bangladesh from July 2014 to June 2015. Total 50 children were diagnosed as pyogenic meningitis fulfilling the inclusion criteria was included in this study. Cases were enrolled purposively. Immediately after admission through history and clinical examination, complete blood count, random blood sugar, Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination and blood culture was done in all patients. For statistical analysis chi-square test was done and significance of analysis was made when p value less then 0.05. This ight help to administer appropriate antibiotics against organism and to reduce morbidity and mortality in meningitis. This study revealed less mortality rate in our country than neighbors and severe malnutrition important risk factors for the burden of pyogenic meningitis. It requires large scale multicentre studies to establish the whole scenario of Bangladesh. The correct approach to treat low-risk intra thyroidal papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is still controversial. The traditional paradigm of treating all patients with thyroid cancer with total thyroidectomy, radioactive iodine and suppressive thyroid hormone therapy is no longer suitable. Many authors advocate unilateral thyroidectomy to minimize perioperative morbidity. The purpose of this study was to determine an effective treatment strategy for patients with small unilateral papillary thyroid carcinoma in a low risk group. This is a prospective study of 300 patients who were diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma by preoperative FNAC or postoperative histopathology. The age of the patients' was ranged between 15 to 45 years. The criteria were tumor ≤4cm, unilateral involvement, cytological non-aggressive subtype, absence of lymph node (LN) involvement and extra thyroidal extension (ETE) on ultrasonography (USG) and absence of clinical distant metastases. Duration of the study period was 30 years from 1989 to 2019.
