The proposed treatment of combining NTG and HBOT appears to result in reversal of tissue hypoxia and improved wound healing. This preliminary report shows improved outcomes with less morbidity in a group of patients with multiple hypospadias surgical failures and it warrants further application in a larger number of patients.

The thirty orphan children were suspected to have anthropophilic tinea but zoonotic tinea could not be excluded as all children were playing with stray dogs. Direct mycological examinations of hair and scalp samples showed filaments but culture assays remained sterile. We revealed T. soudanense as the infectious agent by PCR amplification of extracted fungal DNA and further sequencing of the PCR products. Children were successfully treated by terbinafine and reinfection was prevented by hygiene measures. This case report shed the light on T. soudanense infection on another continent than Africa and on the significant help of PCR identification.Cell sheets from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC) have been widely used in the field of bone tissue engineering, although their source remains a challenging issue. In this study, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSC) were induced to differentiate into osteoblasts, and the incorporation of coral scaffolds with ADSC sheets for bone formation at an ectopic site was also investigated. First, ADSC isolated from inguinal adipose tissue of New Zealand rabbits were cultured for two weeks without passaging under osteogenic induction, and the microstructures of cell sheets were analysed by histological and scanning electron microscope (EM) observation. In addition, the activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and alizarin red staining was also measured to detect their osteogenic ability. Subsequently, ADSC were proved to be able to proliferate well when seeded on the coral scaffolds. Next, coral scaffolds were wrapped in cell sheets to prepare sheet-coral complexes, which were implanted into subcutaneous pockets in nude mice. At eight weeks after implantation, gross examination, microcomputed tomography (MicroCT), and histological analysis were investigated to assess new bone formation. MicroCT scanning and histological analysis showed that there was more highly dense tissue formed in the complex group than control group (p=0.0004). read more These results indicated that osteoblastic ADSC sheets could be used to construct engineered bone and the incorporation of coral scaffolds with ADSC sheets significantly improved bone formation, providing a newly approach for bone tissue engineering.Osteoradionecrosis of the jaw (ORNJ) is one of the most devastating and progressive complications of head and neck radiotherapy. It can cause emaciation, deformity, and pathological fractures, resulting in decreased quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the preoperative index and outcomes of treatment for ORNJ. A retrospective study of 252 ORNJ cases treated at one institution between January 2010 and January 2018 was made. The abnormal items from the preoperative examination and follow-up after different treatments were recorded, and the differences between the noteworthy items were compared using univariate and multivariate models. Most ORNJ patients in the middle and late stages had abnormal items, such as hypoproteinaemia, anaemia, and leucocytosis. Partial mandibulectomy with flap reconstruction was significantly more effective than without reconstruction. Advanced ORNJ patients tended to have more abnormal items, which might have a negative influence on treatment. For better outcomes, it is essential and effective to completely remove the necrotic lesion and reconstruct it with a flap. The surgeons should provide sufficient perioperative management and strive for suitable surgical treatment.Lower eyelid retraction or ectropion bring suffering to the patients both physically and mentally. Efforts to explore pertinent surgical treatments are still needed. Here we have described our preferred surgical technique for lower eyelid ectropion repair with pre-expanded island forehead flaps or pedicled forehead flaps. Between July 2007 and March 2017, a retrospective review of 12 patients who suffered from cicatricial lower eyelid ectropion as a result of trauma, surgery, or infection was conducted. Forehead skin flap based on the superficial temporal artery was expanded depending on the area of defect of the lower eyelid. Tissue expansion, flap transfer, pedicle delaying and division were involved in this process. There were no major complications, such as expander exposure, infection, haematoma or large skin flap necrosis in all the 12 patients. Venous congestion was reported in two patients. No recurrent ectropion was noted in any patient. During the three-month to two-year follow-up all patients were satisfied with the results in terms of the skin texture, colour, and flexibility after the treatment with an expanded forehead skin flap. This study suggests that expanded forehead skin flaps are effective for correction of cicatricial lower eyelid ectropion. In 2018, NHS England released guidelines restricting the prescription of over-the-counter medicines (OTC). This was a project initially targeted at primary care, but we felt that it could also be used to improve services in secondary or tertiary care. We were interested to investigate our OTC prescribing pattern within a busy maxillofacial department and therefore carried out a service review. All outpatient prescriptions were reviewed between October 2017 and October 2018. The review was then repeated between October 2018 and October 2019. All OTC medications prescribed during these periods and their costs to the Trust were highlighted. Our aim was to improve prescribing patterns based on current guidelines and reduce the departmental spend in this area. The first year of data revealed that a total sum of £2742.75 was spent on OTC medications. Those most frequently prescribed were Difflam™ (Mylan) mouthwash and spray; chlorhexidine mouthwash, and miconazole oral gel. The findings of the service review indicated deficiencies in knowledge with regards to prescribing appropriately.
