In this work, we propose a method for generating a CAPTCHA image that will resist recognition by machines while maintaining its recognizability to humans. The method utilizes the style transfer method, and creates a new image, called a style-plugged-CAPTCHA image, by incorporating the styles of other images while keeping the content of the original CAPTCHA. In our experiment, we used the TensorFlow machine learning library and six CAPTCHA datasets in use on actual websites. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the rate of recognition by the DeCAPTCHA system to 3.5% and 3.2% using one style image and two style images, respectively, while maintaining recognizability by humans.Ovarian cancer (OC) is difficult to diagnose at an early stage and leads to the high mortality rate reported in the United States. Standard treatment for OC includes maximal cytoreductive surgery followed by platinum-based chemotherapy. However, relapse due to chemoresistance is common in advanced OC patients. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new anticancer drugs to suppress OC progression. Recently, the anticancer effects of laminarin, a beta-1,3-glucan derived from brown algae, have been reported in hepatocellular carcinoma, colon cancer, leukemia, and melanoma. However, its effects in OC are not reported. We confirmed that laminarin decreases cell growth and cell cycle progression of OC cells through the regulation of intracellular signaling. Moreover, laminarin induced cell death through DNA fragmentation, reactive oxygen species generation, induction of apoptotic signals and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, regulation of calcium levels, and alteration of the ER-mitochondria axis. Laminarin was not cytotoxic in a zebrafish model, while in a zebrafish xenograft model, it inhibited OC cell growth. These results suggest that laminarin may be successfully used as a novel OC suppressor.The oocyte faces a particular challenge in terms of gene regulation. Mutations or absence of CFTR result in pathogeneses, including cancer. While CFTR has been proposed as a tumor suppressing gene in tumors of the intestine, lung, and breast cancers, its effects in head and neck cancer (HNC) have yet to be investigated. This study aimed to define expression patterns and epigenetic modifications of CFTR in HNC. CFTR was expressed in normal but not in HNC cells and tissues. Treatment with 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-Aza-CdR) was associated with rescued expression of CFTR, whose function was confirmed by patch clamp technique. Further experiments demonstrated that CFTR CpG islands were hypermethylated in cancer cells and tissues and hypomethylated in normal cells and tissue. Our results suggest that CFTR epigenetic modifications are critical in both down-regulation and up-regulation of CFTR expression in HNC and normal cells respectively. We then investigated the impact of CFTR on expressions and functions of cancer-related genes. CFTR silencing was closely associated with changes to other cancer-related genes, suppressing apoptosis while enhancing proliferation, cell motility, and invasion in HNC. Our findings demonstrate that hypermethylation of CFTR CpG islands and CFTR deficiency is closely related to HNC.The oxidation behavior of three Nb-Si-based alloys were evaluated at intermediate (800 °C) and high (1250 °C) temperatures for 100 h in air.
