We shall analyze the intrinsic geometric structure of Yang-Mills theory from the standpoint provided by (what we shall call) the homotopic paradigm. This mathematical paradigm was mainly developed in the framework of (higher) category theory and homotopy type theory and relies on a groupoid-theoretical understanding of equality statements of the form a = b. From a philosophical perspective, we shall argue that the homotopic paradigm relies a) on a rejection of Leibniz's Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles and b) on a constructivist understanding of propositions as types of proofs. We shall apply the homotopic reconceptualization of equalities to the equalities between the base points and the fibers of the fiber bundle associated to a Yang-Mills theory. We shall revisit in this framework the articulation (heuristically established in the framework of the so-called gauge argument) between gauge symmetries and the mathematical notion of connection. We shall argue that this homotopic-theoretic understanding of Yang-Mills theories paves the way toward an ontological interpretation of gauge symmetries, that is an interpretation according to which gauge symmetries-far from being nothing but a "surplus structure" resulting from a descriptive redundancy-rely on the intrinsic geometric structures of Yang-Mills theories.This study examined whether gamma gap mediated the association between sleep and cognitive function. Data from NHANES 2013-2014 were used. Three tests were used to measure cognitive function. Sleep was measured by three single questions. Gamma gap was calculated by subtracting albumin from total protein. Participants were 1392 older adults (53.2% females). Approximately 12% reported being told having sleep disorder, 1/3 reported having trouble sleeping, 25.9% had short sleep, and 12.5% had long sleep. Sleep disorders and sleep quality were not associated with cognitive function. Long sleep duration was an independent risk factor of reduced cognitive function on immediate recall, delayed recall, and executive function. Elevated gamma gap was also an independent risk factor of lower cognitive function. In a representative sample of older adults in the US, gamma gap and sleep duration were independent predictors of cognitive function. This study highlights the need for sleep assessment among older adults.Breast milk analysis provides useful information about acute newborn exposure to harmful substances, such as psychoactive drugs abused by a nursing mother. Since breast milk represents a complex matrix with large amounts of interfering compounds, a comprehensive sample pre-treatment is necessary. This work focuses on determination of amphetamines and synthetic cathinones in human breast milk by microextraction techniques (liquid-phase microextraction and electromembrane extraction), and their comparison to more conventional treatment methods (protein precipitation, liquid-liquid extraction, and salting-out assisted liquid-liquid extraction). The aim of this work was to optimize and validate all the extraction procedures and thoroughly assess their advantages and disadvantages with special regard to their routine clinical use. The applicability of the extractions was further verified by the analysis of six real samples collected from breastfeeding mothers suspected of amphetamine abuse. The membrane microextraction techniques turned out to be the most advantageous as they required low amounts of organic solvents but still provided efficient sample clean-up, excellent quantification limit (0.5 ng mL-1), and good recovery (81-91% and 40-89% for electromembrane extraction and liquid-phase microextraction, respectively). The traditional liquid-liquid extraction as well as the salting-out assisted liquid-liquid extraction showed comparable recoveries (41-85% and 63-88%, respectively), but higher quantification limits (2.5 ng mL-1 and 5 ng mL-1, respectively). Moreover, these methods required multiple operating steps and were time consuming. Protein precipitation was fast and simple, but it demonstrated poor sample clean-up, low recovery (56-58%) and high quantification limit (5 ng mL-1). Based on the overall results, microextraction methods can be considered promising candidates, even for routine laboratory use.N-nitrosamines (NAs) are common toxic substances that have a strong correlation with many human diseases, such as liver damage and cancer. However, there is a lack of studies on methods involving the detection of NAs in biological samples, possibly owing to the interference of complex biological matrices and the influence of endogenous NAs. In this work, solid-phase extraction with mixed solid phases and adsorption sedimentation were used to successfully establish a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method for detecting eight NAs in rat faeces. Chromatographic separation of analytes was performed with Agilent VF-WAXms (30 m × 0.25 mm, 0.25 µm) GC columns. The LLOQs of eight NAs were set to the concentration of 0.5 ng/g and the obtained standard curves were linear, and correlation coefficients (r) were ≥ 0.99 for samples with concentration ranges of 0.5-500 ng/g. The inter and intra-assay precisions were less then 15% for all analytes in the quality control samples, and the accuracies ranged from 88.67% to 108.33%. The extraction recoveries were above 78.56% for seven NAs, and a significant matrix effect was not observed. The application of this method revealed that the levels of NAS in the faeces of rats with colorectal cancer were higher than those of normal rats. Additionally, the effect of a high nitrite diet on NAs in faeces was analysed; the results confirmed that a high nitrite diet might contribute to an abnormal increase in NAs. Our work provides an analytical method for further in vivo study of NAs. Furthermore, a pilot study on the relationship between NAs and colorectal cancer was completed.

Understanding how virus particles interact with sludge is the key to controlling virus exposure and transmission. In this study, we investigated the recovery, survivability, and sorption of four typical virus surrogates with different structures (Phi6, MS2, T4, and Phix174) in sewage sludge. The most effective elution method varies by viral analyte, while the ultrafiltration method could significantly reduce the recovery loss for all four viruses. Compared with nonenveloped viruses, the poor recoveries of Phi6 during elution ( less then 15%) limited its efficient detection. The inactivation kinetics of four viruses in solid-containing sludge were significantly faster than those in solid-removed samples at 25 °C, indicating that the solid fraction of sludge played an important role in virus inactivation. Although enveloped Phi6 was more vulnerable in both solid-removed and solid-containing sludge samples, it could remain viable for several hours at 25 °C and several days at 4 °C, which may pose an infection risk during sludge collection, transportation, and treatment process. The adsorption and desorption behavior of viruses in sludge could be affected by virus envelope structure, capsid proteins, and virus particle size. Phi6 adsorption to sludge was great with log KF of 6.51 ± 0.53, followed by Phix174, MS2, and T4. Additionally, more than 95% of Phi6, MS2, and T4 adsorbed to sludge were strongly bound, and a considerable fraction of strongly-bound virus was confirmed to retain viability. These results shed light on the environmental behavior of viruses in sewage sludge and provide a theoretical basis for the risk assessment for sludge treatment and disposal.The application of membrane technology for water treatment and reuse is hampered by the development of a microbial biofilm. Biofilm growth in micro-and ultrafiltration (MF/UF) membrane modules, on both the membrane surface and feed spacer, can form a secondary membrane and exert resistance to permeation and crossflow, increasing energy demand and decreasing permeate quantity and quality. In recent years, exhaustive efforts were made to understand the chemical, structural and hydraulic characteristics of membrane biofilms. In this review, we critically assess which specific structural features of membrane biofilms exert resistance to forced water passage in MF/UF membranes systems applied to water and wastewater treatment, and how biofilm physical structure can be engineered by process operation to impose less hydraulic resistance ("below-the-pain threshold"). Counter-intuitively, biofilms with greater thickness do not always cause a higher hydraulic resistance than thinner biofilms. Dense biofilms, however, hhich the concept of "biofilm engineering" can be extended to other biofilm parameters such as mechanical stability and the implication for biofilm control/removal in engineered water systems (e.g., pipelines and/or, cooling towers) susceptible to biofouling.The present study was investigated the production dental guides by using additive manufacturing stereolithography (SLA) technology, and the dimensional aperture values of the dental guides for dental implant treatment using artificial intelligence technology. The aim of this study is to benefit from artificial neural networks (ANNs) to classify the results obtained from the new production freedom of SLA by changing the existing design concept of dental guides. In the study, the Three Dimensional (3D) anatomical model was designed by using Mimics programme the data obtained from the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images of the patient. DL-Thiorphan Three different dental guide designs were performed using the 3-Matic programme for dental implant treatment on the obtained 3D anatomical model. Dental guide designs and mandible model were produced with a SLA 3D printer, and a data set was created using a 3D scanner. The dimensional aperture values were obtained by performing the 3D registration process between the mandible and dental guides.
