Adolescents are vulnerable for problematic smartphone use (PSU), which is associated with adverse psychological and physical health outcomes. Prior studies have debated whether the association between parental monitoring of smartphones and PSU is positive, negative, or nonsignificant. The present study investigated the relationship between parental monitoring of smartphones and PSU and the potential mediation mechanism involving self-efficacy and self-control. Eight hundred ninety-nine middle- and high-school students from a metropolitan city in China completed a questionnaire containing measurements of demographic information, perceived parental monitoring of smartphones, self-control, self-efficacy, and PSU. The results showed that (a) perceived parental monitoring of smartphones was negatively related to adolescent PSU; (b) self-control partially mediated the link between perceived parental monitoring of smartphones and adolescent PSU; and (c) self-efficacy and self-control sequentially mediated the link between parental monitoring of smartphones and PSU. The current study highlights the mediating mechanisms linking perceived parental monitoring of smartphones and adolescent PSU, and this may contribute to the development of family-based prevention and intervention strategies for adolescent PSU.β-Carboline (βC) alkaloids constitute a large family of indole alkaloids that exhibit diverse pharmacological properties, such as antitumor, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antimicrobial activities. Here, we report that a flavoprotein StnP2 catalyzes the dehydrogenation at C1-N2 of a tetrahydro-β-carboline (THβC) generating a 3,4-dihydro-β-carboline (DHβC), and the DHβC subsequently undergoes a spontaneous dehydrogenation to βC formation involved in the biosynthesis of the antitumor agent streptonigrin. Biochemical characterization showed that StnP2 catalyzed the highly regio- and stereo-selective dehydrogenation, and StnP2 exhibits promiscuity toward different THβCs. This study provides an alternative kind of enzyme catalyzing the biosynthesis of βC alkaloids and enhances the importance of flavoproteins.Purpose This study was undertaken to describe the Adolescents and Young Adults' (AYA-aged patients') neuro-oncology care pathways at Grenoble Alpes University Hospital according to the French health recommendations. Methods A retrospective monocentric observational study was conducted between 2020 and 2021, on patients 13-29 years of age, diagnosed from January 2013 to 2019 in our institute with a primary brain tumor, excluding meningiomas, schwannomas, and neurinomas. The detailed analysis took into account the type of care unit (adult or pediatric), whether or not a dedicated AYA support team was involved, and various pretherapeutic actions. Results Sixty patients were included in this study. Three of the 9 key stages of the care process were completed regardless of the type of management. Management in a pediatric oncology department seems to improve multidisciplinary discussions and access to the AYA team. Collaboration with an AYA team seems to improve the recourse to pediatric advice and supportive care. Conclusions Increased vigilance at all key steps as defined in the recommendations of the Directorate General of Healthcare Services would significantly improve the overall quality of care for this specific population. In the absence of a dedicated AYA hospitalization unit, interdisciplinary cooperation between the different professionals of the adult and pediatric services is essential, and the involvement of the AYA mobile team is a factor that favors links and exchanges and ultimately an overall improvement in patient care and life. We propose our vision of an ideal AYA neuro-oncology care pathway. This report examines changes in health disparities over time by race and ethnicity for HP2020 objectives using three measures of disparity. Can machines be conscious and what would be the ethical implications? This article gives an overview of current robotics approaches toward machine consciousness and considers factors that hamper an understanding of machine consciousness. After addressing the epistemological question of how we would know whether a machine is conscious and discussing potential advantages of potential future machine consciousness, it outlines the role of consciousness for ascribing moral status. As machine consciousness would most probably differ considerably from human consciousness, several complex questions must be addressed, including what forms of machine consciousness would be morally relevant forms of consciousness, and what the ethical implications of morally relevant forms of machine consciousness would be. While admittedly part of this reflection is speculative in nature, it clearly underlines the need for a detailed conceptual analysis of the concept of artificial consciousness and stresses the imperative to avoid building machines with morally relevant forms of consciousness. The article ends with some suggestions for potential future regulation of machine consciousness. To evaluate the quality of web surveys, the National Center for Health Statistics' Division of Research and Methodology has been conducting a series of studies with survey data from commercially recruited panels, referred to as the Research and Development Survey (RANDS). This report describes the propensity-score adjusted estimates from the second round of RANDS (RANDS 2) using the 2016 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS).
The metastatic carcinoma in the lymph node may be missed in routine fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). There are limited studies on the role of epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) in detecting metastatic carcinoma in the FNAC of lymph nodes by flow cytometry (FCM).

To evaluate the role of EpCAM in flow cytometry detecting metastatic carcinoma in the fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the lymph node.

In this prospective study, successive 42 cases of lymph nodes were subjected to FNAC followed by flow cytometry to detect the EpCAM positive cell population. The sample was used for cytology and FCM (CD45, CD14, and EpCAM antibodies tagged with fluorochromes). The percentage of EpCAM positive cell population in each case was calculated and compared in the metastatic carcinomas and reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) cases.

There were 29 cases of metastatic carcinoma and 13 non-neoplastic cases (12 RLH and one granulomatous inflammation). The average percentages of EpCAM in metastatic carcinoma and reactive lymphoid cells were 11.37 and 1.24, respectively. The independent sample t-test showed a significant difference (0.001) in the percentage of EpCAM in the two groups. The cut of value of 3% EpCAM in FCM showed 97% sensitivity and 92% specificity to detect metastatic carcinoma in FNAC of the lymph node.

The percentage of EpCAM in FCM may be helpful in detecting metastatic carcinoma in the lymph node. The FCM is a rapid and quantitative test with high sensitivity and specificity.

Since 1996, the US Preventive Services Task Force has recommended against cervical cancer screening in average-risk women 65 years or older with adequate prior screening. Little is known about the use of cervical cancer screening-associated services in this age group.

To examine annual use trends in cervical cancer screening-associated services, specifically cytology and human papillomavirus (HPV) tests, colposcopy, and cervical procedures (loop electrosurgical excision procedure, cone biopsy, and ablation) in Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries during January 1, 1999, to December 31, 2019, and estimate expenditures for services performed in 2019.

This population-based, cross-sectional analysis included health service use data across 21 years for women aged 65 to 114 years with Medicare fee-for-service coverage (15-16 million women per year). Data analysis was conducted between July 2021 and April 2022.

Proportion of testing modalities (cytology alone, cytology plus HPV testing [cotesting], HPV tesore 2015 then plateaued during 2015 to 2019. The total Medicare expenditure for all services rendered in 2019 was about $83.5 million. About 3% of women older than 80 years received at least 1 service at a cost of $7.4 million in 2019.

The results of this cross-sectional study suggest that while annual use of cervical cancer screening-associated services in the Medicare fee-for-service population older than 65 years has decreased during the last 2 decades, more than 1.3 million women received these services in 2019 at substantial costs.

Establishing an accurate clinical diagnosis is challenging owing to its rarity and nonspecific presentation. Rendering a cytologic diagnosis of PHA is extremely difficult, and immunocytochemistry(ICC) on cell block(CB) sections is essential to confirm the diagnosis. The characteristic cytomorphologic features of PHA have rarely been documented, further augmenting the diagnostic challenge. A 32-year-old male presented with abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and significant weight loss over the past 9 months. On examination, the abdomen was distended, with multiple spider angiomas and a large mass in the right hypochondrium. His renal function tests, liver function tests, and serum tumor markers were within normal limits. An abdominal triphasic computerized tomography revealed a large lobulated mass in the right lobe with central necrosis. An ultrasound-guided FNA was performed from the liver lesion. The cytologic smears showed singly scattered large, markedly pleomorphic, epithelioid-elongated tumor cells having oval-elongated nuclei, irregular nuclear contours, coarse chromatin, prominent macronucleoli, and abundant finely vacuolated cytoplasm in a background of blood. selleck kinase inhibitor ICC on the CB demonstrated diffuse positivity for vimentin, CD31, and nuclear positivity for FLI-1, confirming a vascular origin. Hence, a final cytologic diagnosis of primary hepatic angiosarcoma was rendered. The index report describes the characteristic cytomorphologic and immunocytochemical features of a rare hepatic malignancy in a young male and reiterates the usefulness of FNAC coupled with CB-ICC in the quick and precise diagnosis of such challenging cases.
Animal and experimental studies suggest circadian disruption increases colorectal cancer risk, but evidence in humans is limited. We examined night shift work, chronotype, and residential position within a time zone, proxies for circadian disruption, in relation to colorectal cancer risk.

Participants in the Black Women's Health Study, a prospective cohort of 59,000 Black American women established in 1995, reported history of night shift work and chronotype on follow-up questionnaires. Residential position within a time zone was estimated using participant addresses at each questionnaire cycle. Number of colorectal cancer cases and follow-up duration varied by analysis depending on timing of exposure assessment, ranging from 204 over the 2005-2018 night shift work study period to 452 over the 1995-2018 residential position study period. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to estimate multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).

Compared to never having worked a night shift, working a night shift for ≥10 years was associated with increased colorectal cancer risk (HR=1.
