While many factors contribute to cardiac relaxation, this review focuses on sarcomeric relaxation and dysfunction. Any alteration in how sarcomeric proteins interact can lead to significant shifts in sarcomeric relaxation that may contribute to diastolic dysfunction. Considering examples of sarcomeric dysfunction that have been reported in 3 different pathologies, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, will provide insights into the role sarcomeric dysfunction plays in impaired cardiac relaxation. This will ultimately improve our understanding of sarcomeric physiology and uncover new therapeutic targets.
Healthcare workers have lost their lives in significant numbers in the discharge of their duties as a result of a breach in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) procedures. The increasing incidence of emerging and re-emerging diseases complicates this burden. Adequate IPC includes administrative, environmental and personal protective control measures. This study assessed the knowledge, determinants and compliance to IPC among primary healthcare workers in Enugu Metropolis.
A cross-sectional study was done using a semi-structured interviewer-administered questionnaire. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 300 eligible Health Care Workers in Primary Health Care facilities. Analyses were done using IBM-SPSS version 23. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Committee of UNTH Enugu.
The majority of the respondents were Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) or Community Health Officers (CHOs) and nurses 122 (40.7%), 197(65.7%) were female; with a mean age of 39.86 ± 9.62 years. Only 254(84.7%) of the respondents had previous IPC training and 82(27.3%) of them had good knowledge of IPC. Needle-stick injury was identified as a source of occupational exposure to infections amongst 185(61.7%). A majority, 244(81.3%) could not correctly identify all the moments of hand washing.
The demonstrated poor level of knowledge and compliance to IPC demands more research to unravel this existing gap. However, these conditions can be improved by training the workers on IPC.

Carbapenemase-producing multidrug-resistant (MDR)

has emerged as an important nosocomial pathogen, costing many lives worldwide including Bangladesh.
To investigate the detailed molecular epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant
(CRAB) both from patients and the hospital environment, to shed light on genetic characteristics and transmission dynamics.
A set of 49 clinical
strains collected during early 2015 was received from the clinical microbiology laboratory of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in Bangladesh. Additionaly, 100 environmental samples were also collected from the hospital surfaces of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and analyzed for carbapenamase-producing
. CRAB were identified by culture on selective plates, biochemical testing and MALDI-TOF. All isolates were characterized by susceptibility testing, realtime-PCRs, conventional PCR, MLST and sequencing.

were resistant to ciprofloxacin (100%), imipenem (91.8%), meropenem (91.8%), gentamicin (91.8%), amikacin (87.7%), and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (61.2%). The majority (59%) of the isolates were MDR. All environmental

Past research on the research-policy interface indicates longstanding challenges that have become more acute in the case of climate science, since this requires multi-disciplinary approaches and faces distinctive political challenges in linking knowledge with policy. What can be learned from the experiences of university-based researchers seeking to influence policy as they try to operate in the brokering space? With this in mind, an empirical study was designed to capture the detailed views and experiences of forty researchers in four universities across four countries-Bangladesh, Germany, Uganda and UK. It found a wide range of different researcher attitudes to policy engagement, diverse methods of engaging, a preference for working with government and civil society over private sector policy actors, and a perceived need for more university support. The findings suggest a need to rethink conditions for engagement to create spaces for knowledge exchange and cooperation that can contribute to policies for societal transformation. More attention also needs to be paid to interdisciplinary research approaches, improving research connections with private sector actors, and strengthening university research links with local communities. Finally, the position of university based researchers in the Global South will require strengthening to improve North-South knowledge exchange, capacity development, and incentives for policy engagement.Preventing the negative impacts of major, intersectional social issues hinges on personal concern and willingness to take action. This research examines social comparison in the context of climate change, racial injustice, and COVID-19 during Fall 2020. Participants in a U.S. university sample (n = 288), reported personal levels of concern and action and estimated peers' concern and action regarding these three issues. Participants estimated that they were more concerned than peers for all three issues and took more action than peers regarding COVID-19 and climate change. Participants who reported higher levels of personal concern also estimated that they took greater action than peers (relative to participants who reported lower levels of concern). Exploratory analyses found that perceived personal control over social issues were associated with greater concern and action for racial injustice and climate change but not for COVID-19.
