Early on anti-microbial prophylaxis in autologous stem cellular hair transplant individuals: Traditional versus a complete neutrophil count-driven tactic.
Based on the strong correlation between χ and most of the PTEs, detailed variations in pollution degree inside the urban areas are inferred. Strong linear regression between χ and PLI allows designating limit susceptibility values, corresponding to the PLI categories. This approach can be successfully applied for monitoring and mapping purposes at high spatial and temporal resolution.Previously, we systemically confirmed that prenatal caffeine exposure (PCE) could cause intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and adrenal steroid synthesis dysfunction in offspring rats. However, the multi-generation inheritance of adrenal dysfunction and its epigenetic mechanism has not been reported. In this study, the PCE rat model was established, part of the pregnant rats were executed on gestational day 20, while the others were delivered normally and the fetal rats were reared into adulthood. The PCE female rats of filial generation 1 (F1) were mated with wild males to produce F2 offspring, and the same way to produce F3 offspring. All the adult female rats of three generations were sacrificed for the related detection. Results showed that PCE could decrease fetal weight, increase IUGR rate, and elevate serum corticosterone level. Meanwhile, the expression of fetal adrenal GR, DNMT3a/3b, miRNA let-7c increased while those of CTCF, H19, and StAR decreased, and the total methylation rate of the H19 promoter region was enhanced. We used SW-13 cells to clarify the molecular mechanism and found that cortisol-induced in vitro changes of these indexes were consistent with those in vivo. We confirmed that high level of cortisol through activating GR, on the one hand, promoted let-7 expression and inhibited StAR expression; on the other hand, caused high methylation and low expression of H19 by down-regulating CTCF and up-regulating DNMT3a/3b, then enhanced let-7 inhibitory effect on StAR by "molecular sponge" effect. Finally, in vivo experiments showed that the adrenal steroid synthesis function and H19/let-7 axis presented the glucocorticoid-dependent changes in the adult female F1, F2, and F3. In conclusion, PCE can cause female adrenal dysfunction with matrilineal multi-generation inheritance, which is related to the programming alteration of the H19/let-7 axis. This study provides a novel perspective to explain the multi-generation inheritance of fetal-originated disease in IUGR offspring.During the latest several decades, the continuous development of the economy and industry has brought more and more serious organic pollutants to the natural environment, which have inevitably aroused severe menace to human health and the environmental system. The nano zero-valent iron (NZVI) particles and NZVI-based materials have widely applied to remove organic pollutants. This article reviews the key advancements of different methods for the synthesis of NZVI and NZVI-based materials. Different modification methods (e.g., doped NZVI, encapsulated NZVI and supported NZVI) are also introduced detailedly for overcoming the defects of NZVI such as aggregation and easy oxidation. The removal of different organic pollutants including dyes, halogenated organic compounds, nitro-organic compounds, phenolic compounds, pesticides, and antibiotics are summarized. The interaction mechanisms, including adsorption, reduction, and active oxidation of organic pollutants by NZVI/NZVI-based composites, are discussed. The dyes are mainly removed by destroying their chromogenic group according to the reduction or the Fenton-like reaction with NZVI. The removal of halogenated organic compounds (HOCs) is realized by the dehalogenation process, including reductive elimination, hydrogenolysis, and hydrogenation. As for the nitro-organic compounds, three different reduction pathways as nitro-reduction (into amino), cleavage at the carbon‑nitrogen bond or denitration of the NO2 group may take effect. The phenolic compounds can be mineralized into inorganic molecules, including CO2 and H2O, by Fenton oxidation. This review might provide the basis for future studies on developing more effective NZVI-based materials for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated by organic pollutants. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic made us re-realize the importance of environmental disinfection and sanitation in indoor areas, hospitals, and clinical rooms. UVC irradiation of high energy and short wavelengths, especially in the 200-290-nm range possesses the great potential for germicidal disinfection. These properties of UVC allow to damage or destruct the nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) in diverse microbes (e.g., bacteria, fungi, and viruses). UVC light can hence be used as a promising tool for prevention and control of their infection or transmission. The present review offers insights into the historical perspective, mode of action, and recent advancements in the application of UVC-based antiviral therapy against coronaviruses (including SARS CoV-2). Moreover, the application of UVC lights in the sanitization of healthcare units, public places, medical instruments, respirators, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is also discussed. This article, therefore, is expected to deliver a new path for the developments of UVC-based viricidal approach.Groundwater contributes to the socioeconomic development of the Thai capital Bangkok and its vicinity. However, groundwater resources are under immense pressure due to population growth, rapid urbanisation, overexploitation, and climate change. Therefore, evaluating the combined impact of climate change and land-use change on groundwater recharge can be useful for developing sound groundwater management systems. In this research, the future climate is projected using three Regional Climate Models (RCMs), namely ACCESS-CSIRO-CCAM, CNRM-CM5-CSIRO-CCAM, and MPI-ESM-LR-CSIRO-CCAM for three future periods near future (2010-2039), mid future (2040-2069), and far future (2070-2099) under two Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios 4.5 and 8.5 as suggested in the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report. All RCMs project the temperature to rise incessantly, although future precipitation is predicted to fluctuate (increase and decrease) among the various RCMs and RCP scenarios. A Dyna-CLUE model is employed to analyse the future land-use change scenarios (low, medium, and high urbanisation), with the aim of expanding the built-up area and creating land-use maps covering the period to 2099. A hydrological model, WetSpass, is used to estimate groundwater recharge under future climate and land-use change. The findings reveal that groundwater recharge is expected to decrease in high and medium urbanisation areas, ranging from 5.84 to 20.91 mm/yr for the RCP 4.5 scenario and 4.07 to 18.72 mm/yr for RCP 8.5. In contrast, for the low urbanisation scenario, the model projects an increase in groundwater recharge ranging from 7.9 to 16.66 mm/yr for the RCP 4.5 scenario and 5.54 to 20.04 mm/yr for RCP 8.5.Excess diffuse fine sediment losses from agriculture are associated with a reduction in the ecological status of lakes and rivers. Agri-environment initiatives aim to help reduce these excessive losses through targeted on-farm advice and capital grants. However, to deliver optimum cost-benefit such initiatives must target the most important sediment sources. Sediment source fingerprinting provides an approach by which sediment provenance data can be generated; however, conventional tracers are expensive and state-of-the-art data processing for source discrimination and apportionment requires significant expertise. In consequence, sediment fingerprinting is not routinely used for catchment management. Against this context, sediment colour measured using an ordinary document scanner is trialled as an inexpensive and accessible tracer in eight catchments classed as high priority for an agri-environment initiative in England. Smad3 phosphorylation Colour is interpreted using simple scatter bi-plots of source and sediment samples and compared to the results produced by a conventional composite tracer sediment source fingerprinting methodology. It was found that in two study catchments, sediment colour was as effective as conventional sediment fingerprinting. In four catchments, sediment colour provided less source discrimination or minor differences in results but still identified the most important targets for sediment mitigation. In two catchments, colour was un-successful; however, significant challenges were also encountered with more conventional tracers due to specific local conditions. The findings suggest that use of low-cost colour tracers by non-experts has the potential to significantly increase the uptake of sediment source tracing to improve the cost-benefit of agri-environment initiatives combating the degradation of water quality and aquatic ecology by accelerated sediment losses.Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has gained enormous attention for water and wastewater treatment. Compared with g-C3N4 nanopowders, g-C3N4 based hybrid membranes have demonstrated great potential for its superior practicability. This review outlines the preparation and characterization of g-C3N4 based hybrid membranes and presents their representative applications in water and wastewater treatment (e.g., removal of organic dyes, phenolic compounds, pharmaceuticals, salt ions, heavy metals, and oils). Meanwhile, g-C3N4 based films for the removal of contaminants through photocatalytic degradation is also summarized. In addition, the corresponding mechanisms and relevant findings are discussed. Finally, the challenges and research needs in the future and application of g-C3N4 based hybrid membranes are highlighted. The principal by-product from the two-phase olive oil production process is olive mill solid waste (OMSW). It is a highly-pollutant by-product, not only because of its characteristics, but also because of the considerable volume of OMSW which is generated, amounting to 2 to 4 million tons per year in Spain. The anaerobic digestion of this by-product is a well-studied process, and results in the generation of biogas, methane and carbon dioxide mainly of high calorific values (20-25 MJ m-3), and an effluent or digestate. The digestate of this by-product has never been characterized. This study presents an informative view on how the composition of OMSW digestate shows promising implications as a soil amendment or fertilizer due to the quality of the biomass from Lolium rigidum, a useful grass specie for the production of forage. Three OMSW digestate alternative applications or treatments were investigated the digestate and the solid fraction of the digestate for a nutrient-poor soil amendment and the liquid fraction of the digestate as fertilizer. The results confirm that all the OMSW digestate treatments studied presented suitable characteristics for agricultural use, and showed an optimal Carbon/Nitrogen ratio with adequate values for heavy metals which are below the limits established by the Spanish and European legislation in the absence of pathogens. However, fertirrigation was the treatment that provided Lolium rigidum with the best characteristics, improving its shoot biomass, photosynthetic rate and nutritional content. The alpine meadow in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has been seriously degraded due to human activities and climate change in recent decades. Understanding the changes of the soil microbial community in response to the degradation process helps reveal the mechanism underlying the degradation process of alpine meadows. We surveyed and analyzed changes of the vegetation, soil physicochemical properties, and soil microbial community in three degradation levels, namely, non-degradation (ND), moderate degradation (MD), and severe degradation (SD), of the alpine meadows in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. We found that as the level of degradation increased, plant cover, plant density (PD), above-ground biomass (AGB), plant Shannon-Wiener index (PS), soil water content (SWC), soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), available nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), and available potassium (AK) decreased significantly, while the soil pH increased from 7.20 to 8.
